- Nothing. It was all great
- The room smelled musty. Replacing the mats and the appolstery would go a long way. For a $1000 per night dealing with a smelly room is not acceptable.

Loved EVERYTHING!!!The room itself was an extravagant, luxurious, very spacious Japanese-style room that we thoroughly enjoyed staying in! Our room had a private outdoor bath on the balcony, with a beautiful view overlooking the island. I especially enjoyed the view while relaxing in the healing onsen water. We emailed the hotel in advance to request dinner and breakfast at the hotel, which they graciously accommodated (our room didn’t include meal service, and we were happy to pay extra for it because we knew food options on the island were very limited). The food itself was just as extravagant and luxurious as the rest of the hotel—our kaiseki seafood dinner especially was easily one of the most top quality meals of our entire lives. They were very kind to provide us with an English translation of the foods we were eating, which we really appreciated having. The hotel also has a public bath, and a lounge. We didn’t make use of either one of these, but I’m confident that they are just as luxurious and well-kept as the rest of the facilities here. The real star of the show was our room attendant!! ABSOLUTELY EXCEPTIONAL service!! She was so very kind and patient with my husband and I with our very limited Japanese language and etiquette knowledge. In fact, every staff member that we encountered here was incredibly friendly and helpful. I have nothing but high praise for this hotel and its employees. I genuinely appreciated the opportunity to stay here and experience top-notch omotenashi, THANK YOU so much to everyone at Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto! We truly hope to stay with you again one day.
Such a wonderful experience—and I’ve traveled a lot! The private service, warm and attentive staff, stunning location, unique room with a hot tub, and breathtaking forest views were simply unforgettable. Even with our late arrival, the team went above and beyond: arranging pick-up from the ferry, preparing a 10-course private dinner, and staying longer to make us feel comfortable. From breakfast to farewell, every detail was perfect. I will never forget this fantastic hotel and its incredible staff!
Nothing. Our stay was perfect!
Great location in Miyajima, close to the ropeway and temples, short walk from the ferry (with a shuttle available)The staff was spectacular, the suite with the open air bath was gorgeous. It's my second time staying there and I'll be back.
This was a beautiful hotel located centrally on Miyajima island. We loved the room and the futon beds as well as the public bath. We also loved the daily tours of the island!
Great location within just minutes of one of Japan’s most famous and beautiful shrines. Staff spoke English and were very kind and helpful. The shuttle service to and from the ferry was super helpful.
Room was a bit light on power outlets. If you’ve got lots of things to charge up, it may be slightly tricky.
We had a mountain view room and that was the best decision we could have made. Talk about stunning! The public bath experience was really lovely. The continental breakfast is a great start to the day, especially delivered to the room.Excellent location that feels set off from the busy day-tourist streets of the island, but still with very easy access. Friendly and accommodating staff - I feel that they really cared about us having a wonderful stay.
The lighting in the bathroom was dark so it was hard to get ready for the day in there - fortunately I did most of my bathing and grooming in the onsen area!
Such a change from the cities we visited in Japan! Reached by ferry, this special island attracts day visitors constantly. The streets during the day are bustling with people but as sunset approaches, the people leave and the island becomes a peaceful haven.
Facilities, we love the open bath in the balcony. Room was big, have both western and tatami room. Dinner and breakfast are sumptuous. Staff is extremely courteous and helpful. We loved the staff serving our meals which also tell us a lot about life on the island. It is also close to the Itsukushima Jinja, which makes visiting the place multiple times easy.
Hotel provides shuttle service from the ferry pier but if you want to walk there yourself, a bit hard to locate as you need to enter the hotel via an obscure entrance on the first floor on top of a flight of steps.
The location is outstanding.
We could not reserve any meals at the restaurant and the town has extremely limited options after 5 pm for dinner or before 9 am for breakfast, which is really disappointing for a room that cost over $650 per night. The hotel should have capacity to feed all of its guests. This strongly detracts from the great location, making a stay on the island much less attractive. One might as well go back to the mainland and save hundreds of dollars per night.
Exceptional location on the island, a few steps from the famous sea Toril and neighboring "UNESCO" monuments. Beautiful, very spacious and peaceful Japanese-style rooms with large windows overlooking the forest and the home Japanese garden. Competent and helpful staff. Convenient free shuttle upon arrival by ferry on the island and to the ferry upon departure. Good public baths (onsens) with indoor and outdoor basins. Nice Japanese culinary experience.
The free morning and evening guided visits which are graciously offered to guests by the hotel could be made at least partly in English, in addition to Japanese.
Pleasant atmosphere though out the facilities. The staff were very helpful and courteous. The food was very good to excellent. They followed up on my food allergies to make sure there was no issues. The rooms we had was large and spacious (mixed western and Japanese) with a refreshing relax feeling.
Nothing except maybe more hangers.
The service was phenomenal, Nakamura was excellent and another employee, a mature grey haired man was phenomenal, so friendly and professional, bowing and waving enthusiastically as we departed. Made us feel like royalty. Truly special service.Great, spacious room with a traditional ryokan feel mixed with a western feel. The location is also perfect. You won't be disappointed staying here.
The evening walk tour was just OK. You can definitely miss that.
We had the Kaiseki dinner. It was wonderful and the staff/chef made accommodations for one of our guest who preferred meat over seafood. Everyone enjoyed the meal as our server made sure everything was perfect. She was also very sweet and made us feel special.
Wish we stayed there more nights
Everything! Location is amazing, the staff was very great and the experience of having the dinner and breakfast there was incredible! We also had the chance to have a tour on the island in the morning and our guide was so kind, friendly and offered us the tour in English! Super recommended experience!!
Very spacious rooms and super attentive staff. The location is also great, located very close to all sights, perfect to explore the island all to yourself during the sunrise or sunset. We really appreciated the free shuttle bus to and from the hotel
Loved the location and accommodations. Hotel had wonderful staff that were friendly and helpful.
