Good place, clean. A little old and kinda spooky when the hotel has low occupance. I think the hotel could do with an upgrade/modernisation inside the rooms without compromising the historically significant architecture Nomondo was very pleasant at reception. She clearly loves her job, it shows and its appreciated

The Hotel and staff are amazing and friendly. The food is excellent and the History of the building is absolutely fantastic. It’s so nice to stay at a hotel that’s been around for more than 140 years. And the feeling of the past and the way things were built and done back then. I will now stay at the Royal Everytime we go down and so will my staff. Exceptional service

Breakfast was excellent, very nice ,nutritious , served in a very clean and guests friendly space. The waiter ,was very friendly ,respectful and treated all his guests alike .Welcome from the receptionist was excellent.

Helpful owner and staff. Good value for money. Not a modern hotel, but well kept.

No aircon in the room.

Breakfast was excellent. Staff was welcoming and friendly. Bed was clean and comfortable.

Heat. Inside the room, Aircon was there but still not feeling it first day but second day was better.

Breakfast was good. Ladysmith is my hometown, I could not dare say anything bad about it LOL

I think I asked for twin single beds not bunks and also for a bathtub otherwise everything was cool. We had a relaxing weekend.

Facilities, staff, service and facilities

The most sic noise from the back neighbour facility and the noise of patrons from the facility in the early hours of the morning

The whole hallway smell was bad, uncomfortable environment, too dark and scary. Very old style building and furniture is dull and old.

More lighting, welcoming music, decorations must be aparkling

Excellent breakfast, rooms were spotless, location great and staff were kind and very helpful with our midnight arrival.

Rooms could use upgrading & the green towels.The aircon in teh rooms are old and didint cool the room and it was 35 degrees

Check in and check out was easy and fast.Coffee station was super.

The kids bedroom is by the entrance door of the apartment. My personal view will prefer to put adult bedroom by entrance not kids bedroom for safety reason.The bathroom bathtub need a serous attention. it is peeling off.

The breakfast was amazing and the area is central to the mall. Close to all other amenities in the area and convenient. The staff was always friendly and always on hand to assist me whether it was for breakfast or daily service for meals and drinks. You wont regret your stay here! You can even read about the rich history of the town, located on the walls in the main areas of the hotel. Thank you to Nomonde, Bongani, Ricky, Adri and all staff for making my stay memorable, enjoyable and fun! Look forward to visiting again soon!

Friendly staff. Ground floor room was next to the parking lot so it was easy to get to the room

The heater was hard to operate. It was not warming up. The shower was very small. The price we pay is a lot for one night for it to not include breakfast.

Hotel is allocated in a correct place. Room was perfet, but the only think that gave me a problem in room 53 was the hearter, please try to fix it.

It was OK overall .You don't cater for special dietary requirements. I had to skip breakfast [ non Halaal ]

The aircon blew cold air, and probably out of gas / room was cold .Had to buy breakfast at an additional cost.

Great location and off-street parking. The staff were all exceptional. A very friendly receptionist! She found out I was running a race in the morning and would miss breakfast, and promptly arranged for me to get a packed breakfast the next morning. When I left at 3am, my breakfast was ready! We had dinner in the restaurant and service was prompt and the food good. The manager explained the various memorabilia in the room and gave us interesting insights into the history of Ladysmith. Waiting staff were lovely, in particular to my daughters. This hotel is well kept and a real gem. Will be back!

Great colonial ambience. friendly manager, secure parking,clean rooms and good breakfast

No bar staff. Unable to get a drink as a guest in the hotel bar in the afternoon or early evening. Very limited times for food and drink. The town isn't very accessible so wouldn't stay here again I'm afraid. We left a day early to get more accessible service

sorry, it is a bit of the topica pretty highly pregnant stray cat without tail and wound on the lost tail, I felt so sorry for her, and wished I could take her back to Johannesburg, looking for food in the parking, I wish someone could give her a home and spade her after the birth of the kittens
