Novotel Guiyang Downtown Hotel

Everything except the fitness center was awesome.

No towels, water or a/c in the fitness center. Very little equipment too. But very nice pool.

Property was in a decent spot in Guiyang with all amenities nearby. Clean hotel and friendly staff.

Central location in the old city center, nice room for great price/quality and helpful staff. Highly recommend.

I am usually satisfied with Novotel, but we got upgraded to a suite and our stay became even greater. Very comfortable room with a small living room, a separate bedroom and a great modern and well designed bathroom. We had all of the necessary amenities, the staff was really kind and the breakfast was really good too. The hotel location is central and conveniant. The gym was surpisingly really spacious and well equiped !

Internet was unusably slow (likely a China issue rather than a Novotel issue, but others managed to do better). Zero English spoken by staff which is not what I would expect from an international hotel. It would be beneficial to have an interpreter on the phone or similar for these sorts of events when they occur (which I grant, is not frequent in Guiyang).

Cleanliness of the room

The air conditioning and the exhaust of the room were picking up smoking from other rooms and flushing them into my room..

Very Chinese breakfast. Non english speaking staff except the manager. They wanted to charge me more than what I booked the room for (this was solved after a couple of calls to their booking central)

Gorgeous room, great size and very elegantly styled. Super big and comfortable bed. Clean bathroom, great shower.

Unfortunately the next morning we woke up to a major power cut in the whole area, so felt a little stranded on 22nd floor with no electricity at all, no lifts, no lights (not even any emergency lighting!) It took a few calls to our tour guide who then contacted the manager who then sent a staff member up to guide us down the right emergency staircase to breakfast which incidentally, the hotel managed to do really well!

The staff were friendly and patient in handling the complicated paperwork procedure for registering non-Chinese guests in the hotel. They also tried to give friendly and helpful suggestions about local attractions.

Centrally controlled air conditioning was very cold at night and we were unable to change temperature within the room. Using the shower leaked into the whole bathroom. Otherwise it was a very pleasant stay!
