Pros +
- The staff were wonderful, both helpful and pleasant. I have stayed at many luxury hotels in Peru and the staff here were the best.
- We had an amazing stay at the Sumaq Hotel. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The room was amazing, and the food was just delicious. Additionally, I want to give special thanks to Edison for making our stay unforgettable.
- Top place to stay in Aguas Calientes. Great room, friendly staff, good meet-up from the station. Solis breakfast. Just great.
Cons -
- Complaining about this hotel would be nit picking, as the experience was so good. However, the breakfast was not quite as good as 4.5 and 5 star hotels I have stayed at in Cusco, Lima, and Arequipa. That said, the hotel exceeded expectations.
- Pricey, but you really do get what you pay for.
- -When we checked in rooms were not ready so we had lunch while we waited. Waited without asking us brought us water (2 bottles) and charged us 25 soles instead of offering us the purified water. Why should guests be ripped off and pollute drinking water from across the world when they have free in house purified water? Second lunch waiter refused serving is purified water while another table got it!-they claimed they upgraded us but put us in a low floor room right out to the street either buses flying by non stop and stopping under our window making our room smell of diesel. I had requested high floor and quiet room- you get one bottle of purified water for toothbrushing and have to pay for more. That was not even enough and then we couldn’t get tea bc we were not about to pay 25 ($6) sole for water from the other side of the world-drinks first night took 20+ minutes even though bar was quiet-no late check outs which is understandable but given they know guests leave early for mountain and return there should be a possibility for showers without paying xtra. This is not a hostel but guests pay $500+ pr night and they kick you out at 7 am and then you have to pay to shower. All other high end hotels offer this service for free so really gives you a bad taste of a hotel that pumps its guest. We did pay and the shower stalls are outdated and grossly offered to use same brushes as other guests. Have to change in a massage room with barely any space. Those guests that did not want to pay took up all the bar sofas sleeping in their dirty clothes with shoes in the sofas. Pretty gross and smelly.-hotel is old and dilapidated. Rooms much smaller than described- we had some bar snacks and bartender super nice and friendly. But food took forever and pizza was undercooked and soggy and cheese but browned. But the servers friendliness stood out-We had massages. Not able to get at the same time as they only have one therapist. Therefore they had to be shorter.

We had a beautiful room.
No transportation back to train stationWe were suffering from altitude sickness and had hoped for a ride but it is a short walk so it was okay.Staff was very accomodating We did not enjoy our dinner at all. We have had absolutely great food in Peru but not here. Breakfast was very good
They start serving breakfast from 5 a.m. so it helps if you have an early time slot at Machupicchu.Among the various hotels we stayed during our visit to South America, Smaq Machupicchu was the only hotel where a “standard room” had a bathtub.
Facing the river means facing the main street in Machupicchu Town, so in retrospect a room with a garden view may have been more quiet.
Excellent hotel with superb staff. We didn't book tickets for Machu Picchu but the hotel staff helped us navigate the very complex system to buy tickets and we had a fantastic stay overall. Reception and dining staff were always trying to make us feel welcome and were simply amazing.
Nothing - we loved everything.
All the staff we came into contact with were very attentive, professional and friendly. The room was large, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was superb with wide selection of foods and drinks.
Location was lovely
Smelt musty and no AIRCON, however the staff provided us with a fan
Breakfast, porter to pick us up and drop us off at the train station was very amazing after a long trip. Lobby.
Sliding door to the balcony did not lock nor did it seal well, bed squeaked badly, no air conditioning, beds were not comfortable.
Rooms are spacious and comfortable, beds are comfortable. Its at the and of town so the property is quiet, yet near everything.
Everything was amazing. Facilities, welcome drinks, rooms, spa. Sumaq was the best place to have our first time in Machu Picchu!
The facility is new, and breakfast is really good with the breathtaking view of The Valley. But the most important thing, at least for me, was the great, heartwarming hospitality of the staff! Thank you so much for the great stay! Definitely worth a money!
Nothing I can think of
The quality of the property is worth. Perfect location in the town for a family. Have a chance to feel the local life. Perfect room abd meals to a family with little kids. Also because of our travel time, our room was updated to the high floor with great view.
The heating system didn't work at the beginning, but the service took another removable electric heater to us. The service is perfect.
people are very nice and kind. the room is very comfortable . the hospitality is excellent. our luggage was sent directly to the train station .
everything is nice
Great service, fantastic location and very comfy! Delicious breakfast.
Food was just ok. Didn't have hot shower. Rooms were outdated and no isolation
the location was good and the hotel was clean
the food was so bad, breakfast and the dinner and they are so stingy for water and other cheap stuff
We had a great night's sleep with the sound of the river. The hotel met us at the train station and helped with our bags. They also delivered our bags to the train station they day we left so we did not have to walk around with our bags around town. They provided welcome drinks and a snack. They had rooms with 3 beds so our family of 4 was able to stay in the same room.
Ordered room service and the meat was very chewy. Not worth the $30 paid for the mealBreakfast service was slow. I had provided dietary restrictions but they did not cater to the requests.Expected more from a 5 star hotel based on the rate we paid.
This place was remarkable!!! They updated our stay because my fiance proposed at Machu Picchu and they gave us a phenomenal view of the mountain side. The breakfast was spectacular and it came with our stay. They placed chocolate covered strawberries in the room as well and spoke about the area and what there was to do near by. They also helped us with our train arrangements as well as our tour arrangements of the mountain. Everything was sanitized and cleaned to covid standards and Maria (the Concierge) as well as the rest of the staff were so kind and so amazing. Remarkable
I loved every part and every second of that stay. If I could live outside the sacred valley in aguas calientes I absolutely would. The area has been hit with several mudslides due to the rapids next to the hotels but the community takes care of it and does the best that they can and they absolutely do. With landslides and recovering from a pandemic as a tourism dependent site I've never met such resilient and professional and kind people. Please support the area!
