- As expected from a 4• hotel :Nice Spacious room, warm water, Helpful staffWide varity for breakfast, however catering more to indonasian taste.Big shopping mall within walking distance, as is the trainstation to the airport.
- Location was excellent - fly into KNO, take airport train to Medan City main station (use Exit A) and then walk 300 metres across the City Square (refurbishment nearly complete) - nothing could be easier.During our 6-night stay I was one of only 3 westerners staying in the hotel - the rest of the guests were either of East/Far-East origin or were 'locals' attending a large conference during the first couple of days of our stay. Our room was large and in the main comfortable - but see below under "What we didn't like".Breakfast was very comprehensive and catered for all tastes, but was cooked in a predominantly Indonesian style (slightly spicy) - breakfast was taken every day in the restaurant. We didn't use the restaurant for lunch or dinner, due to initially the large convention taking place and thereafter as the a la carte menu was 'suspended' to be replaced by a Ramadan buffet each evening. Note: The Medan City Mall at the main train station has a full range of restaurants from fast food to high-end, and all at incredibly low prices (one main course for two (with soft drinks) at a mid-range establishment, came it at only £7.56 one evening! - "incredible" is the correct description). In view of my later comments, I wish to now differentiate between room maintenance and housekeeping - during our 6-day stay the standard of house-keeping 'to make up our room' each day was exemplary and could not be faulted - well done to house-keeping!!
Cons -
- Even the sealed windows couldn't keep out the noise from a mosque. The light for the working desk is too weak .
- On entering our room on the first evening, my wife's initial reaction was to request an immediate room change, but unfortunately the hotel was full. The room looked like there had been a battle between human guests and local mosquitoes, with the walks pock-marked by red 'blood" spots, as the humans finally won. The single comfortable armchair was multiple-stained 'with what we do not know of', but neither of us were prepared to actuality sit in the arm chair throughout our stay. The room needed a very deep clean. We negotiated a deep clean the next day by their maintenance team, which brought the room up to an acceptable standard. We asked to borrow an iron and ironing board - one was quickly provided and we were told we could have it for an hour - possession being 9/10ths of the law meant we finally handed it back on Day 6 of our stay!!!The bathroom sink plug was of the 'push to close and push to open' type ' - it would initially intermittingly close, but by Day 3 it decided to remain fully open at all times - not very ecologically sensible, being a waste of hot water! Another maintenance issue to be solved! One wall was covered with wall paper - very tasteful, but it would look far better it the 'curling' edges of each strip of paper were pasted back into position onto the wall by the hotel's maintenance team!Wi-Fi incredibly slow - many websites "timed out", so we decided to use Wi-Fi in the restaurants at the Medan City Mall or from the tables just outside the Mall's "Starbucks" (very fast connection).
- This is a good place, but right now, with all the construction going on around it, it's not the place for us. There isn't really any soundproofing for the rooms. We didn't really mind the construction noise or the intense traffic or the loud ac as it worked together to make a kind of constant white noise. We rather liked the call to mecca sounding out throughout the day. But we decided to move on after being woken by the loudest aerobics class known to man at 6:45am. I can't even get the TV in the room as loud as that class was. The photos online were definitely taken a few years ago. Don't expect that level of fresh. The ac is still working but does look and sound like it has seen better days.I would have loved a fridge or water station, but these are rare to find in this price bracket.

Good location if you're planning to catch another flight out and don't want to pay for a taxi. Your easy walking distance to the train, malls, and some other heritage sights. This is a heritage building in itself, too, which is cool. Across the Rd is the original post office. Now, it has the post office and a few pop-up shops and cafes that are very trendy and delicious. The room service and restaurant are very tasty though it is impossible to work out how long it will take to come so don't expect fast. All the staff were lovely but English is definitely not something you should expect. If you're staying in medan, download a translation ap or give learning Indonesian a try. The views from the room were good city scapes. Shower had wonderful pressure and was hot.

Friendliness of the employees. Always prepared to help.
The state of the building and the hotel rooms really need a total make over. They are tired.
It's OK not the cleanest of places but for 1 night it was OK not able to sleep in as prayers start at 5am
Noise from mosque road and other guestBathroom poor condition
Great Staff.
Restaurant takes hours to send the food to the room. Can be improved. Most of the time we cancel the order due to late delivery.Towels needs to be improved
Great location, very friendly and helpful staff
Tired hotel, bathroom facilities especially and not particularly clean.
The location was great. The breakfast was OK. Complants were handled fast. Staffs were very helpful and friendly. Communication was easy.
Took 2 rooms, the 8 floor room was good, the 4th floor room was super below standard... So run down, old with dirty walls. Was not happy with the room at all. The room smells like cigarette smoke. When complain the house keeping came with a air refresher spray after spray OK but after dinner when we came in the room it smells cigarettes again. Aircon was not cold at all, complaint to the front office. The maintenance came and cleaned the blocked filter, after that the aircon was OK. . No towel provided at the pool, so need to bring towel from room. Since it's only a day we tolerated the smell and don't want to spoil our holiday mood.
Grand Inna Medan is in an excellent location for access to Medan, has spacious rooms and is fairly clean. The pool is very pleasant. The old colonial bit of the building is quite prettyIf you need laundry doing, Rakyat laundry is much cheaper than the hotel and is just around the corner.
The hotel would benefit from some updating to make it better value for money - the curtains etc. were a bit grimy.
1) Location, centrally located 2) The building itself - heritage3) Easy access4) Grab taxi within minutes available
Nothing to comment, worth of stay
Near to the train station & mall
hair dryer malfunction
Location was perfect - close to the train station and very convenient for us. Breakfast buffet was nice but we would have loved to know more about what we were eating as no one seemed to speak much English. Pool staff were super friendly and the saltwater pool was nice to swim in and the temperature perfect. A few more plants and deck chair seating would have been nice.
That reception staff had limited English although they were really trying to help.
Location and treatment good
Many functions at hall, it's difficult to move around.many people standing in lobby.Need some places to go out
Ideal location. Wide and comfortable room. Nice crew. Helpful. Fridge in the room. Amazing breakfast.
Staff were very nice from the moment to arrive. Had someone bring your luggage and take you up to your room. The pool area is very nice, with the train station and shopping malls close by.
The hot water pressure in my room wasn’t the best but it isn’t a deal breaker still was able to have a warm shower comfortably.
Big old colonial type building.Large rooms.Helpful staff on reception
Needs updating The road is very noisy and kept us awake .throughout the night
Location is great
My first room was dirty, after free upgrade to another room it was perfectly fine, very comfortable
Right in the city, good view, tried their best to accommodate guest’s needs to make their stay comfortable.
Reservation/Check out staff were very slow in responding and finalizing the request/work. You had to chase them for answers. They expected each other to do the job. Couldn’t be bothered to move at speed. Surely it isn’t the culture.
Dirty sheets and loud prayer noises at 5 am.
It was dirty. The sheets where all stained. There were bugs in the bathroom. The windows were paper thin. I was aggressively woken up by the prayers at 5 am. Completely horrible. Would NEVER recommend. Just stay at the hotel at the airport. It takes almost one hour to get there from the city.
