About

Set in an 1883 theater building, this hotel is within 656 feet of Östersund’s pedestrian street, Prästgatan, and the bus terminal. The theater is a lively host for various events and music concerts. The hotel offers modern rooms and a restaurant and bar. Best Western Gamla Teatern’s rooms feature cable TV, a work desk and tea/coffee facilities. Most have a fridge and a flat-screen TV. Other facilities include a bookable sauna. Guests can borrow bikes for free and explore the city at their own convenience. WiFi and free parking. Note that parkings spaces are limited. The à la carte restaurant, 64:a Rum & Kök, offers Swedish and international options. Breakfast buffets are served in the old theater bar. Cultural events still take place in the theater. Östersund Central Station is 10 minutes’ walk from Gamla Teatern. The Expo Norr trade fair area and Åre Östersund Airport on Frösön Island are within 10 minutes’ drive. The impressive Åre Ski Resort is a 1.5-hour drive away. Our hotel is often used for shows and events, so it can be disruptive for our guests at times. Please feel free to contact us before your booking to find out in advance if something happens on that particular date.

    Pros +

    • - Breakfast was pretty decent, but had smaller variety than other hotels from this chain.- The underground parking garage is a great bonus, although they definitely don't have enough spaces for the number of rooms they have.
    • A really cosy historic hotel that at the same time has kept the core amenities. While the interior is era specific the quality is high. The room looked very nice. Modern bathroom. Breakfast area looks very nice and the selection is above average.
    • It's in the centre of town, just across the road from the bus stop and all the shops. The staff were so accommodating and let us use our room as the busses for our onwards travel were cancelled due to icy road conditions, until we knew what was happening. It's a lovely place to stay. An old theatre with quirky interiors and comfortable rooms. Will stay again.

    Cons -

    • My stay was absolutely awful. I opted for the fancy option and booked a room with a window. Yes, you can book one without it, in the underground basement.- The room turned out to be on the ground floor, on the same level as the sidewalk. Not slightly above, not separated by any bushes, but directly next to the sidewalk. Since the room is rather claustrophobic, people are walking half a meter away from your bed.- If you open the window, the window protrudes into the already narrow sidewalk. Everyone stares inside. Zero privacy.- The room has no AC. When I arrived, it was a sauna. I was airing it out with the window open until 1am, for the temperature inside to drop to a reasonable level.- I couldn't keep the curtains closed for privacy, because then I would be waiting for the room to cool down till the winter.- Soundproofing is non-existent. Wouldn't matter much, since you are forced to keep the windows open to be able to breath.- Apparently the street right outside the window, and the sidewalk, is quite busy on the weekends and full of loud and drunk people. Plenty of cars driving by blasting music on full volume. Impossible to sleep. That lasted till 4am.- After 4am, it got even better. The party people went home and car enthusiasts arrived. The street turned into a race track. I'm not joking. Makes me wonder what is the police doing in this city.I didn't sleep at all. My head hurts from all the noises. I was boiled alive. Absolutely insane to pay ~140 eur for such a wonderful experience.
    • Nothing to complain about. Highly recommended if you are looking for something different and a bit of character.
    • Price fee for a pet was 300 kr per night. The room has not been cleaned in 3 days. By checking out I was charged double. So now I have to wait to get one payment back. The restaurant was closed, there was no information about that available when booking the facility.

Breakfast was good. But the warm dishes like pancakes and bacon where to cold

Nicely stocked breakfast. We left early on the last day and reception did us a packed breakfast which was perfect.Room was small but pleasant. Comfy beds and pillows - bathroom clean

The hotel building is very nice and interesting. Great location. Impeccable breakfast.

We regretted not getting any airflow in the room. The windows couldn't be opened and the AC wasn't on. We don't think a standing fan in the room was comfortable enough.

Very nice atmosphere and ambiance. Very nice attention to interior details in the hallways and breakfast room.

Weird smell in the mens locker room in conjunction with the spa.

Tasty & well-rounded breakfast, cozy room

There wasn’t a sanitary trash bag in the bathroom, only the no-lid ordinary one

    10AnnPosted on: 8-14-2024

Good location, nice style, everything clean, good stuff

Breakfast was tasty, but no any bakery or sweets or fruits ( fruits was near 2- 3 position and mostly orange, ananas, no season fruits). Parking only for 3 cars. If all is busy needed pay for a city parking. As we order a room without window was feels not comfortable in morning, but it’s our mistake.

No quibble storage of bags before and after stay.Extremely good breakfast, loved the ginger/lemon shots, superb staff and welcoming throughout.

    All perfect!

Liked the theatre theme of the place; something different and quirky, though despite its deliberate retro feel, it could still do with some improvement and careful modernisation. Breakfast was nice; plenty to choose from, and not too busy even at 'peak' time. About ten minutes' walk from the train station and convenient for other shopping/eating and sights. Wifi worked well.

Water pressure in the shower was really quite poor. It was unfortunate that there was some kind of music festival warm-up on that I didn't know about and the windows of the room were not capable of keeping the thumping bass from that out, so my sleep was quite disrupted that night. Overall I felt it was overpriced for the quality of the experience, though I didn't use the pool/sauna so maybe would have got better value if I wanted that.

Super comfortable bed and big room, very nice staff! Clean and cute hotel

Boring breakfast and full party outside at evening/night, even in the middle of the week

    9KevinbPosted on: 5-26-2024

Great breakfast and a great place to stay near downtown, with private underground parking.

There was loud music from a party upstairs that we were advised of, but it stopped about 11 pm, so we got an OK night's sleep
