    Pros +

    • Exotic location, at the heart of the historical stone town of Zanzibar, surrounded by local shops.
    • In the middle of Stone Town. Very big room with nice deco. Really charming and interesting deco in the whole building, with nice old photographs and sculptures. Good breakfast on the roof top.
    • It’s a fabulous and fascinating old building with the charms of India. Very friendly and helpful staff.

    Cons -

    • Way in is could be rather disorientating at the beginning. One has to walk though a narrow lane, off taxi at some distance.
    • The shower was a bit outdated with leaking shower head and not enough warm water. But that was a minor thing compared to everything else that was good.
    • It could use a renovation at the level of basic facilities such as showers, handles etc.

It's near to everything worth seeing or doing in Stone Town. Close to the sea, ferry, restaurants, shopping and markets. It's very centrally located. The building has all of the original features, as is common in Zanzibar Stone Town.

It did not have a pool or gym. It didn't have a wardrobe. Stone Town seems to have a rating system entirely different from the rest of the world. A four star hotel can get away with having no pool, no gym, sometimes no TV and rated 4 or 5 stars! The pricing will also be in the $100 range.Otherwise, breakfast was adequate with fruits and juices as well as the other usual breakfast favourites, like tea and toast. The view from upstairs is also nice, where you can have breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Amazing location, good vibes and the place interior design was a wonder to observe and take in. The gardens were well kept and each space is filled with history to tell. If you're in Stone Town I really recommend a stay.

From my view the room was amazing and well designed but it lacked a bit of privacy in the restroom and shower area.

    1) amazing location - honestly, doesn't get better than this. Heart of Stonetown, easy to access all the sights and very safe at night. I'd come back late at night and felt totally safe2) Great reception and staff - helped me with booking tours, taxi, buying spices, the works. Friendliest in the world, thanks Mohammad and Mallanna.3) Spacious room, great decor. I took so many photos this will deserve its own album on facebook! Feels like a proper exotic James Bond'ish hotel4) Great bed, no issues with hot water, etc. Quiet stay, no noise

    1) Breakfast; staff were disinterested, disconnected and the breakfast was very haphazard. Some days you a certain item, some days you don't. I'd have to tell the same lady who attended to me every day that I am veggie when ordering my scrambled eggs, and she'd yet always bring it to me with a sausage. Don't expect a whole lot for breakfast and if you do find one item available, grab it whilst stocks last! 2) Wifi is awful and flaky. I know this may not be a big criterion to a lot of people but I had to take a few office calls and wifi was non-existent in both my room and the corridor outside (despite being told it would), the only "stable" place was right by the reception and even there, it would just disconnect automatically and you had to sign back on. In this day and age, it was a bit annoying.

The location was excellent. It was an interesting building with lots of history. It was a great Zanzibar experience. The staff were very helpful. With regards to the room -we could open the windows for fresh air and there was a fan and aircon.

We were in the Karma Sutra room and the toilet didn’t have a door and the walls didn’t reach the ceiling. The towels need upgrading although they were clean and changed every day.

The hotel is very centrally located with lots of shops and a very good coffee shop next to it (Karafuu).

Unfortunately, the hotel was not what we expected. It felt like the rooms had not been fixed in forever, the showers heads, the towels, the bedsheets were all stained, the painting/wall paper was falling off, the rooms were dusty and even the hotel itself was not well kept. We had a bad experience with bed bugs, woke up with lots of bites and when we informed the reception they did not take it very seriously a part from re-cleaning the room nothing else was even suggested to us. The rooftop terrace had a nice view but the breakfast was very mediocre.

A good location and stylish deco.

Dump in the room, very evident in the bathroom. The property also charged two sets of extra payments - for the city, and for the infrastructure- I wasn’t really sure if this was legit or just a way to make extra monies

    Great location.

The rooms could be improved. The breakfast was basic.

It was like living in a museum. The hotel is decorated so wonderful with antik things, you feel like in the old times. Very nice! The location also was great, right in the middle of Stone Town, close the the sea and walking - distance to the port.Breakfast was on the roof terrace, with nice view to the sea.

    It was a bit noisy

    8MaryannePosted on: 11-7-2023

Breakfast location overlooking the town was lovely and the staff were keen to please and accommodate our needs. The rooms were quite ornate but we liked the cultural difference it offered.

Lighting in the rooms was a little dim.

Very good location. The building it self is exceptional. The staff are friendly and reliable, as long as your are in the hotel. Breakfast is very good. The restaurant is spectacular with its 360 view, and we tried their Bohra menu which is sensational.

Room was outdated. Toilet seat cover was broken, all taps had scale build up, towel rail was rusty and broken, giving a feeling of uncleanness. Toilet did not had a door!!! and bathtub/shower was part of the room. In general the room had a feeling of an adult hotel room. Finally, the hotel offers some excursions, which I tried to book before my arrival, no matter the reminders I've send them, I had no response back.

It is a typical house in Stone Town which gives a great cultural context. The staff was great, prepared us a packed breakfast since our flight was very early. Also provided an airport transfer. It is very easy to access and great to support visiting Stone Town.

The room feels a bit heavy and carpets and textiles over the bed feel a bit old. To lock the door from the inside is tricky. There was a lot of noise outside until 11 pm and then a very loud sound from the mosque at 5 am.

    7RashaPosted on: 8-27-2023

Great central location and lots of attractions, restaurants/bars and the beach within walking distance. The hotel and room interiors were really cozy, rooms are spacious, and staff was friendly.

It was really noisy past midnight as the hotel is located in a busy street which made it difficult to sleep, and noisy very early morning as well. You can also hear everything going on outside your room - people, staff, cleaning etc.My bed wasn't clean (dirt spots) which I only noticed when I was going to sleep past midnight, so I decided to spread out towels to sleep on - and the bed wasn't super comfortable. The room was too dark for my liking (not a lot of light) but the design of the room was really cool. Toilet doesn't have a door which is not ideal for friends /couples who want to share a room, and the shower is literally in the bedroom too.Hot water stayed hot for 5 mins only and then went ice cold while I was showering.Overall though, the location was good, price was reasonable, and the hotel is pretty cool. I didn't raise complaints about any of the above as I was only staying for 1 night and couldn't be bothered.

Traditional architecture and lovely paintings, photographs and artefacts which add to the ambience. Rooftop breakfast has amazing views. Staff really helpful and friendly. Perfect location inside Stonetown,

    Nothing to dislike

Nice big rooms, very good location in the center of Stone Town.

Wifi was not working very well

    6SaraPosted on: 7-30-2023

The location. literally in the middle.

The poor maintenance and the NO WIFI in the rooms issue.(They said bc of the thickness of the walls)

    6CynthiaPosted on: 7-4-2023

    Location was very good

The room is a bit rundown, the towel that was in the room looked like a rag to clean the floor. It was all ripped. The bathroom and the shower have no doors just mot a good style.
