Pros +
- This place was just awesome. Location to the tram. Evening walk around the beautiful small town. The set breakfast menu awesomely prepared. Linen, clean rooms. Wonderful staff. I loved it there and I'll definitely visit again.
- Great Location in the wine country with assorted high-end shops within walking distance. Also close to a number of nice restaurants. Excellent breakfast included in the rate. Secure parking area.
- Breakfast was ok - a fair selection. As all rooms face onto an open passageway/ pool area - it was very noisy with doors slamming and showers and baths being run at all hours of the night! No privacy in the bedroom without having the curtains drawn. People tend to look into the bedrooms so you can't have the doors or windows or curtains open. Room was comfortable and clean with great shower!
Cons -
- Nothing, really. Parking for check-in is a little unclear as there is no special parking at the hotel on arrival.
- The Hussar Grill Breakfast Manager needed to be more attentive as to the need for clean plates on the buffet!! There were dirty side plates in a pile on the buffet. I requested clean plates. He told the Watron to wipe them - she said she would take them to be washed!! It would have been nice if he greeted you instead of ignoring me when I was looking for a side plate on another occasion! The traffic noise on the road side of the restaurant is crazy. Evening in Hussar Grill - the Waiters need to pay more attention - we had to get up and call them on a few occasions!! Maybe it is slack because they think we are all tourists who will never return!! The food was good, high prices but the service doesn't match! The Reception Staff weren't friendly and didn't help much with local knowledge.
- I thought it was quite noisy. There was no service around the pool. There were tables and chairs but nothing to eat or drink.

We went on a last-minute weekend trip and this was a great hotel to stay with friends - small enough to feel exclusive, but big enough to host us. The location is great, and the staff (esp Precious) who were all super engaging made the stay memorable.
Beautiful rooms, lovely food and the most excellent service. The manager and staff are truly going out of their way to make your stay truly special. We even got a lift to the wedding we were going to as no taxis were available.
À real find ! Lovely rooms, location and above all staff!
A lovely hotel with excellent staff, facilities and food.
Lovely staff friendly ambiance great location
Beds were good. Very clean. Nice staff. Good block-out curtains. Brilliant location. Nice sun loungers around the pool.
I thought it was quite noisy. There was no service around the pool. There were tables and chairs but nothing to eat or drink.
Had a lovely stay Room ground floor around pool area amenities in room very good fridge bottled water tea bags coffee etcComfortable super large bed Excellent breakfast friendly helpful staff Secure car park
Our family arranged this stay for our 80year old mother and her husband. Her comments: beautiful bright bedroom with snow white linen and pristine clean bathroom. Location great and staff very helpful.
Great location and very comfortable hotel. Staff were very friendly and professional.
Not easy to get a booking at the hotel restaurant. Fully booked most nights.
I would highly recommend The Protea Franschhoek, it is ideally located and within walking distance to restaurants, bars, attractions and the famous wine tram station. The Restuarant on the premises is superb and the breakfast served in the morning is the perfect way to get your day going.
Can't think of anything specific
Very attractive, good clean comfortable rooms, excellent staff
Close to shops, restaurants, and wine tram depot.
Would have preferred a first floor room rather than a ground floor room.
Spacious room with ample lighting, sufficient and multitide of power outlets, various wall mirrors of different sizes in both bedroom and bathroom. Friendly staff who are always eager to help.Quality breakfast with wide range of options on the buffet table including a set menu.Breakfast opens at 06:30 local time which is nice and early if one is planing a hike nearby. Great location which is walking distance from the local galleries, museums, coffee shops, cafés, etc. including the local Information Centre.
Pool area and sun beds. Location to the wine tram. Restaurant onsite.
Our room was not ideally located. No27 had a view of bottle store and large tree. The balcony is shared with 2 other rooms and there wasn't enough furniture.
Nice hotel and good spot, close to the sights. The staff is veri kind and helpful.
Everythig was excellent.
Room was lovely. Full length mirror and a socket near a mirror for hair drying. So often missing from hotel rooms. Big bath and separate large walk in shower. Useful pull out line for drying swimwearLayout of hotel around the central square was lovely
Swimming pool a bit small and steps are steep.Service a breakfast a bit erratic
Great location, very well decorated. Bed was exceptionally comfortable. Well equipped room. All staff very friendly. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay here again
It was all good. No negatives
