- Friendly and welcoming staff.
- Extremely welcoming staff/ owner, amazing breakfast with a great view, very comfortable place to stay and the bed was really comfortable
- Lovely location..although a bit far out for shops. But for us ideally located for the Churnett Railway also Alton TowersRooms ok comfy bed and clean and warm.Only a velux in our room but room we were offered when I asked to change rooms in order to have a window looked out onto apiece of ground being dug up for new cables to be put in and a digger outside..we would have had to keep the blind down all the time for privacy. So we asked to change back to the room with the velux only …which was actually a much better room. All this didn’t get us off to a good start!,I appreciate the cable work is necessary but feel if I had been told this was going on before I asked to change rooms it would have been better .
Cons -
- The mattresses on the twin beds were not comfortable.
- No information in the room ie for meal times and general hotel information. Also we were asked to pay up front for the room and no tab allowed. We had a meal on the first night and were asked to get our drinks from the bar ourselves.Food was very good tho No buffet at breakfast .The staff were lovely but needed to go ask the manager about everything we asked about..some training needed. All in all a disappointing stay .I feel that they are trying hard but need to address problems.
- Was not informed there would be no food on us. So we had to travel to the town centre to get something to eat. The bar and restaurant was put on for a private function which left us out of pocket and really ruined our stay. If we knew about it we would have stayed somewhere else.

Excellent breakfast - hot, cooked well and plenty of it! The evening meal was also really good as was the crumble dessert. Room was quite spacious and comfortable and the en-suite had plenty of room snd plenty of hot water. Pleasant situation in the Peak District with various attractions nearby. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The proprietor was very helpful when we got stuck in the ice with our car too!
Small details like bins being emptied daily and water replenished would have been good. As we were only guests during a particularly snowy spell it would have been helpful to be told that the hotel would be closing early. We arrived back from a meal out at 7.30 to find no bar facilities available or staff in the main building. Just letting us know would have meant we could have found an alternative place to spend the evening. Having said that - it was just a communication issue. We feel that the proprietor was really friendly and extremely helpful whenever asked for or about anything snd is an excellent cook (our breakfasts and meal on one evening were lovely.
James hospitality was second to none. Nothing was a problem, for he welcomed my wife and myself and made a special effort for our little dog jaguar looking forward to our next visit very soon
LocationFood was excellentHospitalityA very special place with reasonable prices
Beautiful location
Hotel has gone downhill since we last stayed sadly. Cobwebs, dusty, bare plaster patches, filthy carpets, sink full of cracks and long hairs everywhere. My vegetarian breakfast had 2 lots of black pudding on it, one vegan, one clearly not! Knock on our door at exactly 10.31am "just a gentle reminder that check out is 10.30am" We clearly outstayed our welcome by one minute!
The location was great for us as it was 4 mins from. Frognall Station.Clean rooms, staff friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Also the pillows were not very nice. Pity there was no view as we only had velux windows. Booked ground floor room, but we were moved to the first floor for some reason.Breakfast was huge, but the sausage let it down. Both myself & and my son didn't like it, but that might just be a question of personal taste. We had a meal in the restaurant in the evening which was decent and the staff were lovely to accommodate for a child's meal. Overall, we'd stay again if we were up that way.
No view from our room, the pillows and how high the bed was (only because my son is only 5 as he couldn't get onto it and fell out of it half way through the night (lucky the thick carpet gave him a good landing
Peaceful good value for money . very friendly and helpful staff
Great location for Alton towers and very peaceful. Staff were very accommodating and attentive. Facilities were great and room was comfortable and clean
Location
No staff after 8pm so no evening meals or drinks
Very friendly and helpful staffGreat to be able to access the golf course during our stay.
Bathrooms were dated - but very clean so not really an issue - just cosmeticWould have been nice to have been able to get an evening meal on site.
Views where amazing, staff very helpful too
Wi-Fi was very weak in my room, and hot water was lukewarm at best
The breakfast was really nice and by the looks of everyone elts that was eating there at the time I think they enjoyed there's as much as we did, all empty plates
The resturant was shut at night on the date we were there so had to get a taxi elts where
Staff were incredibly friendly from the moment we arrived, chatty and helpful. The hotel itself was incredibly beautiful, I especially enjoyed the big windows and airy feel during breakfast. The room was clean and well furnished with a much appreciated bathtub. Everything was very comfortable after a long day on our feet.
I would have liked the vegetarian options at breakfast to be a little broader as my only cooked option was scrambled egg on toast but there was cereal available so I did get enough to eat.
Lovely Location and staff very helpful.
The hotel’s only drawback was the extremely uncomfortable bed, which had a noticeable dip on one side, making sleep difficult. This alone prevents us from returning, despite the hotel’s beautiful location and friendly staff.
The staff were lovely, warm and welcoming. The hotel was also warm and welcoming, given the storm that hit on our arrival. We would definitely stay again
Very peaceful and quiet in the countryside. Bed comfy, quilt nice and cosy and lovely warm rooms and corridors.
Pillows we're not to comfy. No view as it was roof windows.
Location was good for our visit to Alton Towers.
Bed was very hard, Felt like the guests in room at the side and above were in the same room as us. The staff at breakfast didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing, my husband had to remind them about the coffee he had ordered 3 times he also had paper which looked to be a piece of what they write your order on his breakfast when served. Staff looked scruffy not something you want when they are serving you food. Horrible smell in hallway to the restaurant the carpet wet through so guessing the stench was from that. We booked the hotel as it had a bar but we didn't get to visit it as the restaurant and bar was in darkness by 9pm.
Great place with fantastic views.Clean.Lovely breakfast
