Pros +
- The swimming pool
- The hotel, location meals and staff were wonderful!! All four of use had a wonderful time and we have agreed we will be back Preferably for two nights instead of one.The reason I've scored some 9 as opposed to 10 is there is always room for improvement.
- Staff very helpful and warm welcome on arrival.
Cons -
- The bathroom smelled disgusting and the carpets in the room were dirty
- The size of the room was a little small for four people with only two seats. Also the jacuzzi/hot tub was cold however there was a notice to say it was not functioning correctly.
- Mattress a little dated and ready for changing so too soft. Tea/Coffee tray poor needs updating.

Everything! It was so nice to unwind and relax. The rooms are cosy and the facilities are good. The staff were very helpful and polite. The food was good. It was our first visit and we loved it!
The food in the restaurant was divine and succulent. The hotel staff were fantastic and the hotel had reasonable spa access included with the room
No fridge or minibar in standard rooms
Spa facilities, food and staff were excellent
Room was too warm so didn’t sleep well
Good food and spa facilities
Not enough staff on the bar no queue but waited 15 minutes to get served
Perfect location for our trip to Yorkshire. The breakfast chef was something special.
The evening food was disgraceful
Friendly staff, nice dinner and nice pool
Breakfast wasn't 4* kids couldn't eat the cooked food, no porridge. No scrambled egg.Very noisy late at night guests in room opposite. We won't be staying again unfortunately.
Staff, location and breakfast
Times for kids swimming
Building and grounds were attractive and a convenient location. The room was spacious and the beds were clean and comfortable. The staff mostly came across as quite neutral, with little warmth about them, with the exception of the staff in the pub/restaurant where we had our evening meal. The menu for dinner was a little basic, however the food was cooked and presented well and the staff there were excellent. Breakfast was ok however the service was disappointing when it came to getting things like marmalade etc replenished. We used the pool on the afternoon we arrived, during 3-5pm family session, which our two grandsons enjoyed, but the facilities were not as clean as thy could have been. The shower could have been a lot cleaner and quite a few lockers didn’t work. On leaving the spa, we eventually found somewhere to put our used towels - two receptacles piled high with wet towels, right next to the reception desk - it looked very unsightly and again the staff in this area also came across as being lack lustre. We have stayed at Mercure hotels previously and always found them to be excellent, which is why we booked our stay at this one. It just didn’t match our expectations
It felt a little dingy and lacked atmosphere
Breakfast was excellent.location was good.
No heating in the hotel except the hotel room.
Beautiful place, lovely comfortable rooms and we had a lovely nights sleep
The bar could have a little more music and more of a bar atmosphere
The spa facilities were exceptionally clean and well-maintained, which was highly appreciated. The accommodations were also very comfortable, breakfast was delightful, and the bar provided an excellent experience.
Good size room, pleasant customer service who were very adept at solving minor problems, access to the swimming pool which was very nice and clean (just make sure you check the timings when children are allowed)
The shower floor (inside the cubicle) was very slippery and my partner (who already has a broken leg) slipped almost falling, so this is was immediately reported to the reception as a health risk. They took it on board.
Beautiful location and a very homily place less like a hotel far more comfortable atmosphere.
Only stayed one night but no complaints
I booked dinner, bed and breakfast, 6 rooms for my 80th birthday family celebration. We had a long table set up for us in the dining room, the food and service was excellent. Breakfast was also a hit with everyone, as was the Spa area. Lovely to have a swim before checking out at 12 noon.
The shower curtains need washing/renewing as they smell awful. The smell permeated the whole room we had been allocated and no amount of room spray (which I had with me) helped. Opening a window didn’t help either so I complained and was moved to a different room, which was much better. However, the smell was there in the bathroom and was coming from the shower curtain. New shower curtains would solve the problem relatively cheaply but glass screens would be much better.
It was convenient that Tesla charging was on site. The breakfasts were good and the gym well-equiped. The bedroom didn't have a bath but the shower was good. The hotel and rooms were clean. Staff were friendly and service generally very good.
The room was one of their 'Privilage' rooms and I would have expected better. It was let down by relatively silly things; there was a bedside table on only one side of the bed. The room had insufficient drawer space so we ended up living out of our suitcases instead. The bathroom was a little small and cramped. Reception was staffed by one person at a time who also was handling new telephone bookings which meant that there was quite a queue at times to check in and out.
Comfy clean roomGood. Breakfast selection
Poor shower sorry ?
Beds were comfortable bedding nice and clean good pillows. Plenty of towels in room. Food was good except the bacon. Loved the pancake machine. Staff were helpful.
Our lighting was faulty over the two days and went in and off. We had to pack with no lights. The hairdryer in the room smelled like it was burning and then stopped. There were no glasses in the room just to get a drink of water Very limited drink packets in room. No hot chocolate. Bacon at breakfast was awful both days. It was just like leather. Spa pool was freezing. Pool temperature was in the cooler side too.
