Pros +
- Beautiful decor excellent staff and bedrooms were lovely
- Our stay was to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we were delighted to experience lots of thoughtful extra touches which made our stay special. These included being warmly welcomed and congratulated on our anniversary, a "Happy Anniversary' balloon in our room which was upgraded, and complimentary fizz with dinner. We were thrilled with every aspect of the hotel's offering especially breakfast which offered quality local produce. All the staff offered outstanding service.
- Very smart and excellent staff.Very accommodating
Cons -
- There was no mirror in the room. Made using the hairdryer difficult.Spoke to front desk about it and they were very grateful for the feedback
- The following comments are for feedback purposes and not direct criticism. Correspondence follow up was patchy i.e. They asked the right questions in advance of our stay but we felt like they hadn't read our responses. Renovations were still being finished off and while we made allowances for that, it became obvious that there is no air conditioning in the bedrooms; the room was stifling all night despite the provision of a fan. Rooms are named after the family pets of the staff that work there - quirky but its a challenge to find your room when they're in no particular order. Staple items missing: bathroom shelf, suitcase rack, small fridge for the milk that didn't turn up, although I accept that it might have arrived in a thermos flask if it had. Needless to say I didn't get to try the coffee. cos I had no milk. The night porter didn't know the timings for breakfast the following morning. Our main issue was the breakfast. We'd advised them by email that we would require breakfast despite booking a room only rate. We were shown to the breakfast room to find most of the cold items depleted with no signs of being topped up. No lids on open dishes and flies crawling over everything sweet. Only cafetiere coffee is served with breakfast for overnight guests so we had to pay extra for a cappuccino from the adjacent cafe on top of the breakfast rate. Very frustrating to watch fresh pastries floating past on trays en route to the cafe. They seemed to be doing a roaring trade serving everything fresh to the public while the hotel guests got cold cooked breakfasts, cereal and 2nd rate coffee. That needs sorting, pronto. If we stayed again, I would book a room only rate and have breakfast in the cafe. And for avo lovers, get your tomato chutney on the side....

Recently refurbished so everything was really clean and new. The shower and washrooms were great and the room was really big with great amenities. Would go back!
Initial contact correspondence was good with online check-in. Bathrooms are stunning with very good quality fittings and tiling throughout. Bang up to date Nespresso coffee machines in each room with an small selection of free pods. Hanging space was adequate for a weekend stay. We were offered fresh milk for the coffee machine. All the staff were pleasant and polite. The cafe attached to the hotel was doing a roaring trade for sunday morning breakfast - the pastries looked delicious and the cappuccinos were good. Warm rooms bode well for winter stays.

in the midst of refurbishment which needs to be a high priority as place is looking very tired.

The location, the friendliness of the staff and the wonderful breakfasts.
The pillows on the bed could have been larger.

Nil
Warm, very clean, comfortable bed and room
A bit tired but doesn’t distract from the comfort
Pleasant staff, good food at dinner.
Rooms very tired and dated but being upgraded in the near future. No TV signal. Hairdryer very poor and old. Limited choice dinner menu if wanting good basic choice rather than unusual dishes.
Friendly staff
Food could have been much better!! Evening meal was just warm, breakfast was like a truckstop.. mushroom dripping in oil, soggy/oily hash brown, tomato wasn't edible,, full of oil, scrambled egg was half runny.
Breakfast was great.Staff very friendly and helpful
There was a lot of renovation work being done which wasn’t stated when we booked. Room was very outdated and old. View from window was a skip and rubbish. Am sure it will look brilliant when the renovation has been done
Excellent location, comfy four-poster bed and lovely bar area.
Nothing really. The hotel is a little dated in places but work is in progress.
Yes maybe the rooms are not outdated (hence the hotel is going through renovation) but everything else was spot on, staff super friendly and welcoming, food very nice and the location great. Very happy with our short stay
Great location, large car park, clean room and excellent evening meal.
Rooms dated and in desperate need of a refurb (which I was told would be completed next year) The bed was comfy but I was kept awake by noisy (heating/hot water?) pipework above my room which continued all night.
The young waiting on staff.Anthony was very welcoming and pleasant and pleased to talk and show details of what the refurbishment will look like when completed. When the refurbishment is completed, it will be a great asset to the community and area. I had drinks with locals in the bar and they had nothing but praise for Anthony and his enthusiasm for promoting the hotel, new build and refurbishment.I wish the owners every success.
The hotel, during my stay, had quite a number of walkers who were inconsiderate to other guests. My room was No 10 located on the ground floor with double doors just outside which were constantly, into the early hours, being banged. Also my bedroom door was tried three times during the night as people were trying to gain entrance. The above was reported to the manageress but nothing improved. The manageress went to great lengths to be-little Anthony to other staff members and mentioned several times that Anthony had nothing to do with running the hotel and was just there to promote the refurbishment and that she was in charge of running the hotel. In all my years of travelling, I have never come across a person in a managerial role constantly demeaning a fellow member of staff.
The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. Lovely breakfast. Good value for money
A little dated but due the be refurbished next year
