    Pros +

    • The setting, the ambience and the good food.
    • Beautiful peaceful setting. Lovely interior and bedrooms. Excellent food
    • Lovely old building full of cosy areas and open fires, we stayed in room 3 on the ground floor, which had that cottage feel to it with its own little private garden area, the bed was extremely comfortable and the shower a joy to use, the towel rail always hot , tea & coffee equipment was top quality and the welcome pack of cookies a lovey treat, with a vintage radio playing relaxing music on our arrival are our long drive was a nice touch too, the breakfast choice and quality was to die for, and the evening meals definitely 5 Star

    Cons -

    • We had room no. 10 which was really lovely. My husband took advantage of the bath but unfortunately slipped trying to get out. A plastic in-bath mat was provided which he failed to use but the bath does not have handles or a grab rail so nothing by which to lever oneself upwards. I think this is something that should be addressed. My husband has suffered no serious damage and the hotel helped with cold compresses, and a visit to A and E when we got home proved reassuring in the form of an x-ray. However he is in pain and will be for two or three weeks. I hope the hotel will address this matter in order that it doesn't happen to anyone else.
    • Clutching at straws the wardrobe space in Room 3 could of been better, although that said there was plenty of additional draw space
    • Absolutely nothing to dislike.

    Beautiful location

Room was freezing as radiator turned off when we arrived. And room small

    9AndrewPosted on: 1-25-2026

The location, the staff, ambience, service, food and drink, outdoor seating, parking, the room was lovely with classical music playing, the inn is beautiful.

Dirty toilet but the staff sorted it out. The bed was too small.

The place was warm and inviting. Breakfast slow to arrive but very good

Pillows were too thin. No shower cubicle

    9GillianPosted on: 1-23-2026

Well appointed warm cosy room. Loved the home made cookies.

The lounge area could have been warmer.

Our room was lovely with some nice touches two freshly made delicious cookies waiting for us and the radio was on in the room which gave a nice atmosphere

    7BarbaraPosted on: 1-16-2026

The room was nice, clean and comfortable. You always returned to your room with the radio on, playing gentle music. Everyday fresh homemade cookies left in your room, with a good choice of beverages and a jug of water. Great breakfast choices, from cold to hot food. The staff were very attentive and friendly. There is a set menu for cooked breakfast, but staff happy to tweak it to accommodate it with what you would prefer. The bar staff is very friendly and helpful when trying something different. Location wise , just a short journey into Halifax. A good local taxi service. Handy if you are catching a train, or just want to leave the car behind. Definitely would return to stay here in the future.

Very nice room and lovely surroundings. Staff were friendly and bed comfy. Food was very good. Breakfast was fab!

Not enough tea or coffee in the room/selection of teas- kept having to ask for more. No fridge so you had to ask for fresh milk when you wanted which made us feel a bit awkward having to pester people.

We loved the old tradition English Inn feel, with a fire, which made a lovely atmosphere in the bar, room and restaurant. And really liked the location, in the hills by the river. The staff were very nice and the room was very comfortable. We loved the sky light and could see the stars lying in bed. The breakfast was really good!

Food was of a high standard, but more could have been done particularly at breakfast time to take account of my intolerances. Dining room draughty with comings and goings through outside door. Relatively thin duvet insufficient insulation at this time of year. Shower pressure/ volume adequate but disappointing.

We arrived at 5pm on a dark rainy November night and were so happy when we got there as we knew we had everything we needed for our 1 night stay - particularly good as it does feel a bit away from things when you get to Shibden Mill Inn. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, our room was wonderful and cosy, the bar well stocked with a range of different quality drinks, and we had a booking for food in the restaurant. Our food was delicious and the staff friendly and helpful. And then the next morning the breakfast! Such a great spread was on offer - fruits, yoghurt, pastries, cereals, juices - and then a cooked breakfast on top. We only had one night there but couldn’t have happily stayed longer. We took a really nice walk down the valley to Shibden House, exploring the grounds, the park, and having a coffee along the way. We went back to pick up our car, arriving at the inn when they were serving Sunday lunch, which looked incredible. We didn’t have time for that but will definitely go back soon. Although it was winter the outdoor seating area looks perfect for summer too.

Booked as a present for my daughter and son in law. They said everything was great. They have stayed here before and love it.

Character property, lovely staff, comfortable room with nice touches. Breakfast was fabulous

    Nothing to report

    8PaulPosted on: 12-25-2025

Clean and comfortable. The best in the area.

The food is excellent but the portion size is ridiculously small. Why they think that a spoonful of food somehow makes the food more upmarket is beyond me. It’s a shame because otherwise the place is excellent but going to bed hungry isn’t what you want when you stay here.
