Pros +
- Beds were comfortable,
- The Aberdeen Arms in Tarland, did what it was meant to do for two nights.Bed's were comfortable, en suite was ok, tea and coffee was provided.Sadly the place is in need of a refurb', in my opinion.
- Location was excellent. People in the village were friendly.
Cons -
- Room wasn’t warm considering the time of year, windows were single pane and cracked, bathroom needs a serious overhaul.
- Musty smell. Beds made an awful noise every time you turned over, like the springs were going to escape from the mattress. Freezing, couldn’t get the heating to work. Shower didn’t work properly. Toilet seat and towel rail loose. Towels were like cardboard and small.
- Tired looking place. Needs investment but for the price decent

Very basic, cheap and clean
Astonishing value for money. All the people who have left negative reviews should remember how much they have paid! Beds super comfy. Brilliant to have a full sized fridge, a microwave and kettle. Great location for Tarland mountain bike trails. Lovely cafe next door.
Comfortable and quiet
Tired looking place. Needs investment but for the price decent
The location was absolutely perfect
The whole place was filthy, mould around the shower, no shower curtain, carpet not hoovered, furniture was dusty. Mirrors filthy. The kettle did not fit under the tap, had to be filled with a cup. I recommend Booking.com delete them from their listing.
It was quiet!
The hotel is in urgent need of a thorough clean & facelift. Soap from previous customer was still on top of shower & chocolate wrapper was left on the floor behind the bin. The shower was filthy! Toilet, however, was clean thankfully! Cleanliness is as important in a 2 star as it is in any other star rated hotel. The place has plenty of potential but we would not visit again in its current state. Some guidance for the current owners might be beneficial!
We've stayed here a few times when working in the area. Bar man Nicki was very helpful and friendly. There is a traditional music night on Tuesdays that's worth going for a listen
Nice location, nice bar, friendly and helpful host. Comfortable bed and nice sofa. Was v useful to have a fridge.
Room was nice but could have been cleaner.
The owner, Kathryn was lovely and very welcoming. The room was clean and the beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. The hotel suited our needs as an overnight stay prior to a work event the following day.We would definetly stay again if in the area.
Waited for a late arrival
The shower didn’t really work, I booked a double bed and got two singles. The bed was uncomfortable and I’d not stay there again.
It's good that there are hotels in such remote places
The hotel has no kitchen or restaurant. Unsanitary conditions, stinks. The drain in the shower is clogged.
The staff were very friendly. That is the only great thing about this hotel
The bathroom was horrible. It was so dirty I was scared of it
This Hotel is in a good location in a quiet country village. Check in was easy enough in the bar. I had a peaceful overnight here in a tranquil surroundings. The TV worked fine and there was tea-making equipment, fridge and microwave in the room. Nice to have a beer in the public bar downstairs
I’ve stayed at this hotel several times now. On a previous visit there had been annoying noise from the bar which is open until 1am. Some cleaning work needs to be done in public areas but the bedroom itself was ‘ok’. Generally there’s a ‘tired’ look and feel to the place. The shower was problematic - difficult to control water temperature. Booking.com gave me a discount price for the room; without that I’d have considered the hotel overpriced.
The rooms were clean and the staff were very welcoming
I thought there would be more staff
Amazing value for money. Friendly staff. Interesting old building. Bike storage. Microwave, fridge, kettle and telly in the room. Comfortable bed. Room not too hot. I had a great sleep. Not too posh for grubby mountain bikers.
A bit shabby.
As a one night stop over The Aberdeen fitted our needs. A cheap bed for the night. Our room 1 whilst on the road was quiet, clean and comfortable. The bathroom functional but in need of work.A bar onsite with a good selection of drinks. No food but pud and a cafe just a short stroll so wasn’t an issue.Wifi was available but couldn’t connect in our room.
Fair price and good location
Was very damp smelling and could do with a really good clean and spruce up, also only saw a member of staff once when we booked in there was no one around when checking out
Fridge and microwave, we were en route for a self catering holiday. Beds comfortable and clean. Loo and basin clean. Good location.
Overall not very clean, shower needed resealing due to mould. Paintwork and carpet tired and grubby. Beds creaked at every move.
