    Pros +

    • Historic buildings, easy to park, comfortable room with space for a small table and chairs, dinner bed and breakfast package was good value for money, staff were friendly and helpful, vegetarian dinner and breakfast were very good, everywhere was very clean
    • The food was absolutely delicious. The bar and restaurant staff were attentive
    • Staff down stairs in bar were polite, friendly and attentive

    Cons -

    • Crack in the sink
    • Waited for 10 minutes to check-in before someone appeared at reception - even tried phoning twice. There was a tobacco smell in my room and the internet connection was bad.Have to say, I was a little disappointed with the Roebuck, after hearing good reviews about it.
    • The room and corridor leading to it. Very dated and prison like. In need of a huge make over. Carpet coming up and thread bare. Wallpaper coming off the wall. Shower broken wouldn't go up high. Hardly any Power. Floor uneven .

Great location, rooms spacious and well appointed.

Night club was a little noisy but not too bad when we were in our rooms.

It was excellent value for money. We just had berries and yoghurt and croissants for breakfast, but we could have had a big cooked breakfast if we wanted

I liked the quiet environment and close to Ashton forest. The staff was the best part of place. Wonderful people and restaurant had great food….

A bit outdated… old carpets and outdated room but it was very clean which made up for it

Food was excellent and staff really friendly. Would stay again.

The hotel is a little tired, but very clean. Good for the price paid.

The period between Christmas and NY is in my view always a test for a hotel. I therefore had lowish expectations when staying at the Roebuck, the 5th place I have used in that area. It was easy to find, easy to access and easy to park, which already cheered me up on a day when it was -4C and snowy! I was immediately offered a double rather than a twin room. It was warm and well appointed. Downstairs is 'traditional heritage hotel', not swanky but with a pleasant lounge, games room with snooker table etc. Bar and restaurant adjoin. Same menu in both, which is basically trad English too, but with perhaps a Spanish twist. Prices were good and most people there were couples enjoying a Twixtmas break.

    There was nothing to dislike

The pub itself was lovely. Very homely, beautifully decorated for Christmas and the staff were very friendly.Breakfast was included and was good and filling and we ate both evenings in the pub and the food was appetising, well cooked and flavoursome. Prices were reasonable as well.

Our first bedroom was stone cold and the heating did not work so after a couple of visits to reception we were moved up 2 floors but again the room was cold and the heating did not work. After trying to restart the system we were eventually provided with a portable heater which made the room temperature acceptable. Both rooms did look tired with wallpaper beginning to peel, flooring in the bathroom lifting from the floor and walls and missing plug. The rooms were in contrast to the pub which looked fantastic.

I have not tried breakfast but evening meals have been good and a reasonable price. Service from all staff has been prompt and very courteous. The staff clearly work well as a team and deliver very efficient service; nothing seems too much trouble for them. The lounge, bar and restaurant areas are pleasant spaces to spend tome in and I have enjoyed using the pool table. The bedrooms and corridors to the bedrooms are not refurbished to the latest standards that you might see in other hotels, but they are perfectly acceptable, with well made beds and most importantly, the cleanliness is good. The balance between how far to go with refurbishment Vs room rates is about right for me, which is why I will continue to come back. The plentiful parking is also good. The hotel overall is mix of fair to good for the rooms and relaxation areas; the excellent staff bringing my overall average rating up to a very nice place to stay. On my stay on 9th August 2025, I was very impressed with Valli, Jamie, Mary and Andre. They were the staff I saw on that occasion. For my stay in 30th December 2025, I was impressed by Andre, Jamie, Mia and Frederick. I have only commented on staff I have interacted with. Whoever is doing the recruitment seems to have a talent to selecting high quality staff.

Welcoming staffWarm and cosy bar area and loungeComfortable bed Restaurant on site

    9MeganPosted on: 12-29-2025

The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The room was comfy and pretty with views to a back yard. We had a lovely Christmas Lunch, which the staff squeezed us in for despite us not having booked in advance (I assumed if we were staying there on Christmas day we would have a table for Christmas Lunch).

I thought it was IN Forest Row, not Wych Cross. I wanted to be in Forest Row. The staff were unavailable through the Booking app and I was unable to communicate with them due to this issue. I tried calling and there was no answer. Once there, they were very helpful.

Stayed many times here. Perfect location, great cosy bar, good restaurant

No plug sockets by the bed and kettle cable didnt reach plug but really these are very minor

    9IrenePosted on: 12-27-2025

We have to say the cleanliness of the hotel is superb this is the second Christmas we have stayed here. The y even cleaned our room on Christmas day.

Our only comments are this year there were no staff on reception for checking in or checkout.even in these difficult times perhaps there should be someone from 3 to 5 and 8 to 10 there was no secure key drop just keys to leave on the desk.to see a friendly face during this period would have been nice. It was a phone number to ring.
