    Pros +

    • What a fantastic inn. Stayed for Valentine's Day 2026 and we had a warm welcome, convenient parking, a large room with a river view and lots of space, a sofa and TV, nicely appointed en suite, and large comfortable bed. All extremely clean and well appointed. Dinner was not only excellent but also on a special offer which made it even cheaper than expected. Breakfast was good quality and cooked to order. It really is right by the river, in a handy location for a stroll in this lovely little town. Lovely friendly folks too - will definitely, definitely be back.
    • Room very large and clean; staff so friendly even though we arrived after 10pm.
    • Comfortable bed, lovely shower, warm, pleasant, quiet

    Cons -

    • Honestly it's hard to fault it. As it was a winter's day it might have been sensible to pop the heating on in the room a little before we arrived, as it felt a bit cool when we walked in, but there are two good heat sources in the room ready for us to switch on so it was a matter of minutes before it was toasty for us. Didn't spoil our impressions of this lovely place at all.
    • Walls/windows very thin so was noisy.
    • Breakfast was nice, but if you're fussy about your coffee, that's the only let-down

Strange kind of place, more like a bed and breakfast, definitely not a hotel!Expensive for what you actually get, the welcome was strange with no signage for where to check in.. room was quite small and very hot.The bathroom was pretty bad small and not very well designed..One night more than enough.Overhaul staff in the evening very plesent but the breakfast staff rather useless and not welcoming! Would I recommend or stay again unfortunately not.

It was warm. The windows worked. It was clean.

It was a 2 night stay. When returning for the second night the rooms had not been cleaned. Apparently it is the guest’s obligation to say you want your used cups changing, towel changing and beds making. You are to do that using a card. However, no one told us and in fact they accepted that there had been no cards as they were being reprinted. On the second night we returned at 8.20 in anticipation of an evening meal and a drink (as per the 1st night). We were met by the staff going in the other direction so there was no food and no drink. We had a cup of tea and a biscuit. When this hotel heads into permanent decline, which it will at this rate, then they need to reflect on the fact that if you don’t offer the service people will not come. Overall, an example of how scrimping on costs and service provides a poor stay and a commensurately poor review. The hotel can call me if they wish to discuss but they won’t.

Excellent location. Very comfortable. I have coeliac disease and notified the hotel in advance. The staff were excellent in modifying breakfast and gave me great confidence - thank you

room was comfortable& breakfast room & food excellent. Very nice location & would appeal to tourists especially Americans as it is a very old building on the water's edge.

The price on the internet was less than the price I actually paid for the room. There was very limited parking on a very narrow lane with no turning area. That is no fault of the hotel.

    Decor clean warm well appointed

Parking could be an issue when busy. We had last space

Called and stayed to break the 7 hour journey home from Cornwall. Very easy to get to coming off the M5 and joining the M50 for a very short time. We visit Cornwall at least once a year and in recent years started to break the journey home. Have looked for a location that is easy to get to whilst not being too much of a diversion from the motorway. This place really could not be better for that reason alone. Lovely town with a lot going on. The Swan Hotel was very nice. The room we stayed in was enormous. Staff were very helpful. Locals seemed very chatty and friendly. Had one of the best breakfasts ever. Dog friendly and nice places to walk. I should certainly want to go back. I could imagine it being very pretty during the summer and very cosy during the winter.

Well looked after by the staff. Room at top of building very low ceiling level, as I am not very tall this was first time I have ever had to duck down to avoid a beam. Not a problem to us but could be an issue to people taller than myself. View from windows down the River Severn pretty spectacular.

Could have done with info in room re things like breakfast times and details of meal menus.

Room was lovely, incredibly dog friendly which is important to us and the staff were incredibly helpful and professional. We also had dinner there and the food was fabulous. Would highly reccomend especially if you ahe a dog and we will be returning.

The room was very warm but that was because they had put the heating on for the first time but would rather be too warm than cold.

Excellent location- friendly staff - comfy bed - super shower - great foodRight by the river

Parking was difficult - none available on street nearby probably as it was a busy Friday late afternoon on a sunny day - had to pay to park on car park five minutes walk away

    3McauleyPosted on: 8-30-2025

It was old & by the river

It was, hot, bed too low & not comfy, shower was way to small to shower properly. Bit dusty but it was more the smell. The guy who booked us in was friendly but the guy on the bar was rude. I got stung by a wasp as we were sat near a window, we then realised there were loads in the window. All we got when we told the staff was sorry, & the other wasps were left & because of being stung couldn’t finish our meal properly, which was well over priced for what we had. There didn’t seem to be any older staff just young staff until the following morning at breakfast, the lady was lovely & friendly. Breakfast was very nice but we had to ask for fruit juice & we only got one cup of coffee each.

Have stayed at The Swan Hotel before. Staff friendly. Great location. Room No. 4 was comfortable, modern bathroom. Breakfast was a large full English Breakfast. Very nice. Parking can be a bit iffy, but Owner Luke very helpful in that respect. Would recommend.

Advised staff Room 4 could do with full length mirror so you can check yourself before exiting room.
