    Pros +

    • It was clean.
    • Nice view of the river in the front. Large dining room downstairs. Overall relaxed atmosphere, very friendly staff. Comfortable bed, good water pressure in bathroom, Yorkshire coffee and tea - offering a better brand may be a small thing but it shows care. Plenty of storage space in the room (wardrobe plus medium-size chest of drawers, practical bedside tables), large room. Lots of parking behind the building.
    • Good value pleasant staff

    Cons -

    • Its not a 4 stars hotel at all. Maximum 2. Everything is very old and tired, things don't work or are broken.
    • Property in need of refurbishment
    • Sadly, a lot more than I liked. Room was dingy. Several light bulbs not working. Radiators need bleeding so room was cold. No shower gel or shampoo. Asked twice but never sorted. No toilet paper. Unforgivable. I got some when I went and asked. Despite advertising a residents bar it closed at 9pm as ‘quiet’. Ridiculous. No food, no drinks. We ended up dragging chairs out of our rooms into the lobby and sharing a bottle of wine we were lucky enough to have in one of our cars. Yes, quiet time of year but don’t advertise facilities if they are not available! Overall this was a very poor experience. Some of the staff were excellent but sadly some were shockingly bad. We booked 5 rooms for 2 nights and will never stay here again.

Nice place to stay. Probably much nicer in the summer than winter. Room was OK although not very clean, bed was comfy.

Good price for comfortable, quiet room in a very pleasant pub in a good location.

A small detail, but fresh coffee instead of sachets of instant at breakfast would been much nicer.

Love the location by the river

The room was a little dated and would be hugely improved with a little money spent on the decor/ furniture.

The Unicorn is good value for money. The staff are very friendly and the bar has character and an excellent range of drinks.

We had three rooms, two of the rooms were very good, a little bit tired but nonetheless clean warm and nice however room number three is soiled and not pleasant at all. Greasy head board stained. Walls unclean. Picture and surround had clearly had a drink thrown at it at some point. Come on folks you can do better. I would ask a manager to look at this room themselves. My family stay at the Unicorn every year for last 5 years and enjoy our stay, staff are excellent. But room 3 falls well below your standards.

Nice hotel, rooms are comfortable appointed

My room, no.6, large family room, very nice but the window is broken, it wouldn't and didn't close, on my first night it was very cold,

    3StevePosted on: 12-22-2025

The bedding and towels were clean.

The room was tired and dirty. There were stains on the carpet and walls. The shower had mould in it and the ceiling was falling in. The bed was very uncomfortable as a double.

    Lovely staff and location

    Rooms need a bit of a tidy/repaint

    8RichardPosted on: 12-12-2025

Evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. Room could do with a few more power sockets and the bathroom was a little on the small size and hand wash dispenser was broken.

    Small bathroom

    8IanPosted on: 11-26-2025

staff were helpful and friendly - meal we and our family had on the evening was very good along with the service.
