    Pros +

    • The location is centric and it's cheap. Staff are helpful and friendly.
    • I arrived late (11:30pm) but staff was excellent, showed me how to use the key pads, they’re there 24/7 which left me feeling safe. (Solo female traveler) Simple bunk beds - I requested a bottom bunk for my disability and they gladly reserved it for me. I asked for an extra sheet to hang for privacy. Bunkmates were super quiet/considerate. Breakfast downstairs was banana, tea, cereal. Very cool space! Beatles “I am the walrus” was playing - nice memory. You can walk to graffiti tunnels, and Westminster Bridge which has Big Ben, London Eye, Red Double-Decker Buses, Thames River, Street Food, shops, incredible location!
    • Great location and accommodating friendly staff.

    Cons -

    • 1. It's next to a train station and VERY noisy. 2. No lifts and four floors to climb. 3. Single toilets/showers often occupied. 4. No breakfast before 8 am. 5. A wind shaft next to my bed. 6. Room lockers broken. 7. Neighbours who snore a lot.
    • I only knocked off one star because of the very old restrooms (could use new seats) and all the stairs (I use a cane so it was a Climb, but of course you’ll have that in these wonderful old buildings.) Note: the city noise didn’t bother me at all, but it does bother some guests. I suggest a white noise machine would go a long way at night.
    • Beds not the most comfortable.

The beds were clean. You get ear plugs, because it's so close to the trains. You get free breakfast between 8 and 10 am.

The last day I was there, I left my bag at my bed, like every one else in the hostel did around me. I also left a T-shirt over it. When I woke up, only my T-shirt was there. I looked through the room but nothing was there. After talking with staff, where they said only a police report would help, and they wouldn't check the cameras otherwise, I came back in the room after 5 mins. The guy next to me came back and my bag was there now. Before I even got to ask him, he immediately started saying he's done nothing and he doesn't know anything ? I "lost" my money and locker key (my id and passport were there) Staff told me it could never be that guy because he's there like 2 times a week, so they just trust him that much ? thankfully the lockers are so shite I was able to take the whole lock off the locker and get my stuff and leave.

Clean and comfortable rooms that felt safe. The trains were a bit loud but that’s all part of being in a central location. Could walk to all the classic sites and the tube was a block away!

The Walrus was way above my expectations! The atmosphere is amazing — the fact that there’s a bar right downstairs makes it super lively and social. At night, it was full of people, great vibe, music, and energy. The kitchen was spotless and had absolutely everything you could need to cook comfortably. Bathrooms were clean and smelled great — honestly one of the cleanest I’ve seen in hostels. The staff were incredible! Everyone was kind, patient, and helpful. There was an Angolan guy working there who was super funny, smart, and welcoming — we laughed a lot and had a great chat. The morning staff were also extremely friendly and attentive. The location couldn’t be better. You can literally walk everywhere — Big Ben, the London Eye, and so many sights are just a few steps away. I was in London for a very short visit, but I managed to see a lot because of how central the hostel is.Absolutely nothing to complain about — everything was perfect. I’ll definitely come back!

    Nothing really.

    Location only

Everything i touch is either broken or not available, common area is really bad and small kitchen lights was so dim.Two baths were out of service, toilets rooms were either no lights or not well equippedBed is broken floor is dirty.Nothing is functional, no hook to hang your stuff in the toilets, the rooms were basically just bunk beds, no table nothing, i gotta use other person bed to put my clothes on.

Staff, location, and on site pub were quite nice.

Some how the amount and duration of train noise was under represented.

    8PiernaPosted on: 8-19-2025

Everything. The staff were so friendly, every place I went to was clean, I felt very safe and welcome. I loved the times that were allowed for the kitchen and free breakfast and so on. The location was amazing and for amazing price.

The only thing is that I didn't mind the sound of the trains passing more so the fan that was on in our room making a lot of noise and I got a horrible cold from it blowing the entire night directly in my direction. I didn't know as did any of the girls I shared an accomodation with if we could turn it off so if we could absolutely no problems whatsoever but just that

Location was amazing. I could walk to the West End and see Westminster, Big Ben, and the London Eye or walk 5 minutes to the underground and be almost anywhere in the city in less than half an hour. The hostel itself is on the end of a street with tons of restaurants, shops, and a great overall atmosphere. The free breakfast provided didn't have a huge variety of options but what was available was great quality and very tasty. The rooms were clean and comfortable and I felt very safe during my entire stay.

I was not provided a towel, so be aware to bring your own for your showers. I personally didn't have an issue with the noise, but the close proximity to both a very walkable street with restaurants and an underground station meant there was noticeable noise from trains and people most of the night. The hostel did provide earplugs for all guests on your bed.

The best thing about this place is that it’s really close to the London Eye and other major attractions — you can walk to most of them. The staff were super friendly and helped me a lot.

there was quite a bit of noise at night because the train runs right next to the building. So if you’re a light sleeper, it might be hard to get a good night’s rest.

It's very close to Westminster Bridge, which is where I needed to be early the next morning.

The whole building was red hot, especially the upper floors where the beds were. The windows in some of the communal areas opened wide, but in the bedroom, it was restricted to about 6 inches. There was a small tower fan in the room that did very little in the way of providing relief. The only toilet on the level stunk all night and the next morning, plus the light didn't work so I had to go in with a torch. The top bunk was uncomfortable--it felt as though the mattress sagged in the middle and the bedding (even laying on top) was really thick and added to the uncomfortable temperature of the room. I couldn't participate in the free breakfast as it started at 8 AM and I had to be out of the hostel by 6:30. There's no shelf or electrical plug close enough to the bed to charge your phone without the risk of someone else being able to access your belongings, at least not from the top bunks. I would have needed a very long cord and it would have had to be draped across the ladder, which wouldn't have been ideal and easy to snag and drop to the floor in the middle of the night. I stayed in hostels in Europe 10+ years ago that were amazing, very comfortable, like hotels but shared rooms, and for much less money. This was like a bunkhouse--super basic, but not at all comfortable, and for £66, it felt like a big waste of money.

Good quality, budget accommodation in the heart of London. The staff were friendly and it felt safe. The twin room we had was lovely and had towels/earplugs for comfort

Location, location, location. The Hostel itself is cute, well thought out, and hires delightful employees - every one.

Who would have known air conditioning would be anything to think about in London. But when your room is on the top floor, it can get a bit stuffy.

    Good location

Really old, no elevator, bathrooms and roof on bedroom damage

Location is the best point for this hostel near Waterloo station. Also provided free breakfast when I stayed there.London is very expensive city and this hostel is too.

bad lockers, and very small toilets.

    8PamelaPosted on: 5-13-2025

The location is central to a lot of museums, monuments, as well as restaurants. Easy to get to. There are tons of restaurants to choose from, as well as shops. The bathroom was spacious enough as well, although the toilet, not so much. The common areas are kept clean. Breakfast was decent, cereals, coffee, tea, milk, toast... it would be great to have some protein like eggs, but otherwise good. They let you keep your luggage for free if you come in before check in. Staff are accommodating too.

The proximity to the train station was a double edged sword. Obviously, it made everything accessible. On the other hand, it can get noisy at night. If you close the windows, you drown out the sound of the trains BUT the room becomes humid and can smell.

There was a nice free simple breakfast, at a good time, that was super nice! And the location is really good. It is by the train station, but they give you earplugs which was honestly really nice and put me right to sleep. And all the staff was really nice and helpful!
