- Beautiful old property with lovely grounds. Breakfast excellent and staff all very helpful.
- Staff and location lovely
Cons -
- WiFi was very poorSome things very expensive -4 small scones £19. Cocktails £15
- The noise of the generators The evening meal was expensive and not great
- We checked in Sunday about 5.30. We were advised there would only be bar food/snacks as they were having a staff party ,the dining area was given over to that. We ended up sitting at the bar to eat, not comfortable and not the dining experience we had hoped for.1 soup, not flavoursome and tepid £7.50,1 .caesr salad with prawns, not a lot of prawns.£10.50 Had to ask for bread which was meant to come with the soup. Then had to ask for butter, which was rock hard. 1 Apple and blueberry crumble £8.50 Was ok, that's all, texture of crumble not exactly right, my best guess, it was never in an oven.1 pint peroni lager£7.25. Was not what my husband wanted but he was informed both of his first preferences had run out.1 glass red Portuguese wine £8.00. Lovely 1 fever tree ginger beer£3.50, refreshing, 1 decaf Americano £5.50, excellent. Service charge £6.22! Total £61.47, soooo not worth it.Then, on to breakfast, new day, clean slate. On arrival, at reception, we were told breakfast served until 10. Actually, 10 was mentioned twice. I arrived in breakfast area about 920. . Was told I'd have to make my cooked choices fast as kitchen closed at 9.30! Yikes My husband hadn't even got downstairs at that point. So, my good mood disappeared, we were told 10 o'clock I said. Staff not only didn't want to accept that but reception took it upon herself to try giving us a mini lecture, luckily for me, another couple in the breakfast room said they were also told 10 o'clock..So, let's order. I asked for 2 sausages, 2 poached eggs. Waitress said kitchen was having difficulty doing poached eggs . I insisted, and duly got my order. Breakfast food is excellent, 1st class but WHAT A PALAVER. Husband had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Excellent as well. Only hotel I've ever been in doing really good scrambled eggs.Overall, though, not impressed.

The room was nice, clean, comfortable bed and everything you'd need.
Nothing I can think of.
Good
A lift I appreciate difficult to install in an older building but am sure many elder people put off if they billeted on the second floor
Staff from the get go very friendly, approachable and helpful answering any questions I had definitely would go back

Delightful helpful staffExcellent location Beautiful building and grounds
Great location and easy parking. Lovely breakfast and really professional and pleasant staff.
Shower was unusable as it ran too hot. I mentioned to Reception and received an apology email and confirmation that the issue would be addressed for future guests.
Amazing room and breakfast and surrounding grounds.
The breakfast is fresh, varied and tasty. The room is comfortable. It is an extremely quiet location and very central to where we wanted to be in St Albans.
The heating in the room was stifling and unclear how to adjust. The lights by the wardrobe didn't work and were not able to be fixed by the staff at this point. The biggest problem was that there was some noise in the room throughout the whole night, a loud intermittent hum which ruined my sleep.
Lovely location, free parking, great bar food, deep bath, delicious brekkie
Generator woke me up at 6am
The decor throughout the hotel is stylish and contemporary, with clean spaces and fresh linen and carpets. We were in the garden wing where all the rooms are named after trees - ours was Poplar. The breakfast was very tasty and papers delivered to our room each morning. The reception area was welcoming and the hotel location is ideal for the city centre and station.
The room had low ceilings and just one window, which felt claustrophobic. The bathroom double doors were too long given the thick carpet so it was an effort to drag them across the carpet and try to get them open or closed. There was a lack of toiletries in the bathroom so take your own. No fridge either, which I had expected for the price we were paying.

Wi if not strong enough in bedroom
Breakfast was lovely. Really friendly attentive staff. Great location with car park. Would like to return in the Summer. The Xmas decorations were so lovely.
Perhaps a lift.
Beautiful property, in a lovely location. Staff were so friendly and helpful, really added to our stay. They could not do enough and they were all so polite and friendly. Our room was gorgeous and spacious. Breakfast had so many different things to offer. The whole hotel was clean and decorated beautifully for Christmas.
I’m not sure if this is mentioned in the description but there is no lift and I hadn’t taken that in to consideration. Travelled with my mum who struggles with both knees. Luckily hotel staff kindly moved us and was very understanding.
