Cons -
- The room unwelcoming , it was old and shabby . The bed was uncomfortable - you could feel the springs . The towel rail didn’t heat up . The extraction fan in the bathroom didn’t work . There was a constant fan like noise throughout the night . Poor breakfast and lukewarm warm tea .
- Continental breakfast could be more imaginative - why is cooked breakfast not in price
- Guests walking past at early hours can be frustrating. That's all.

Good location
I had 3 rooms booked and have used the hotel a lot for work purposes. We had a colleague who couldn’t make a meeting so I told the hotel and they said it was non refundable. I rang back 20 mins later and said we will still have the room as we’d paid for it and were putting another member of staff in it. I was told they had sold the room on. I said well we’re have the refund then and they said no it’s not there policy. I understand if the room wasn’t sold on as the hotel would loose money but they made double for that room. Completely unacceptable in any world especially as we’d been there for at least 5 weeks on and off.
Would not stay again
Very noisy room above courtyard. Very small dated room. We could hear everything in next door room. Occupied by a very loud violent sounding person with no thought for anyone else. The room was too cramped to be a double for 2 people. Very dated
Central location, friendly staff, breakfast included
Stairs might be tricky for person with limited mobility, but it’s a historic building after all
Breakfast was good and staff were very friendly and helpful
Room was cold windows badly need replacing
It’s location.
No towels in the room had to ring reception to get them. No extra pillows in the room if you needed them
I liked the friendly staff, polite and very helpful. The room was lovely and very quiet and free parking.
There wasn't anything I didn't like.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Hotel has a great atmosphere with super friendly staff plus excellent communication. The room was comfortable and warm. The continental breakfast included was delicious which was a great bonus.
Staff very friendly and helpful.Food was excellent. Certainly not typical 'pub grub'. Wine reasonably priced!Room decent size and clean.
If Im' really splitting hairs, our room shower was black with silver buttons surrounding the main rotary control. The logos on the button were very small, I certainly could not read them without my glasses (which I wouldn't wear in the shower). This resulted in me operating various buttons until I succeeded in obtaining a hot shower! Just a laminated sheet with operating instructions (in large print) would fix the problem!
Such friendly and easy going staff; from reception, through to the bar and room services. Great location for the centre of Belper, the train station and bus routes. Having a private car park makes it perfect ! We bave stopped at the Lion several times and will do when we need to be in around Belper or Amber Valley
Dont know, was there something
Staff at breakfast and Housekeeping lovely very welcoming.Room very clean
The guy who checked me in was not welcom8ng at all no engagement or even a smile
Location, staff and breakfast, beds very comfortable.
No stool at dressing table, could do with some hooks to hang coats and one on bathroom door
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
We stayed one night only after an event in the hotel. I couldn't fault the staff, they were all very helpful and friendly. The rooms were in need of a refurb. The bathroom fan was extremely noisy which was a problem during the night when my husband needed the loo, as the fan continued to run for several minutes after turning off the light. There was a banging noise which kept me awake, I couldn't figure out where it was coming from until the morning when I opened the curtains and found the sash window was open and banging in the breeze. So a sleepless night for me. I'm not in the habit of posting bad reviews but I think there are issues here that could be easily addressed to improve the quality and comfort of the rooms.
The hotel was easy to find and perfect that it has its own car park. All the staff were lovely throughout. The stone baked pizza I had in the pizzeria was amazing.
I had a room overlooking the petrol station, it was a little noisy through the night because of this. But it wouldn’t put me off staying here again.
Perfect location for shopping and dining. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
No air conditioning and heavy blankets made sleeping a bit warmer than we like but not impossible.
The evening meal was amazing. Great quality and generous portions. Great selection of tea bags in the rooms, plenty of coffee and milk too.
Breakfast wasn't great. Pretty unimaginative and the preprepared tea and coffee in flasks were stewed and the 'hot' water was luke warm. The waiter kindly replaced this with hot when asked.
Breakfast was lovely, parking excellent. Great location.Nice greeting when booking in.
The bed was uncomfortable. Mattress needs replacing.
Absolutely everything, spotless, lovely knowledgeable staff, made you feel so welcome, went above and beyond, 100% recommended A massive thankyou to Conor who worked the bar and the breakfast, what a lovely guy, thankyou will be back in couple of weeks Donna
