- Lovely really old and interesting hotel. Lovely friendly staff. Food was great. Great location. Bed was so comfortable. Train station 5 minute walk from hotel. Lovely view from room. TV to watch. Visited battle Abbey, St Mary's church. Enough pubs to have a drink and food. The chapel is a good pub, friendly sports pub. Kebab shop just what we like.
Cons -
- Room on first night had very small bathroom and fan not working. Asked to change and given room with full size bathroom. Staff helpful, Lina looked after us but disappointed that not given more comfortable room from the start.
- Everything was great.
- The bedroom was fine for a one-night stay but a couple staying for longer might find it a bit cramped. The bathroom, and particularly the shower, was on the small side.

Everything was great.
We loved the stair way outside our room which was like an Escher print. We loved the atmosphere and history of the old building and friendliness of staff who made us very welcome. Really enjoyed our meal on the Tuesday night which had a vegetarian option which was full of vegetables and very delicious . We were able to park right beside the hotel.
In walking distance of my destination (Battle Abbey) so very convenient. The breakfast (home-baked sourdough bread) was excellent.

Battle is a compact town. It is lively with a variety of restaurants, pubs and cafes. Chequers is well positioned and of course to view the historical significance. We enjoyed the quirky bus number "1066". We had a very enjoyable evening meal with a good pint of Harveys. Sue looked after us well and made us feel very at home. Charming old building and the interior design has had some thought put into it.
No real issues - the wi-fi was a bit variable but then this was an old building which does not naturally lend itself to modern kit.
Lovely welcome, helpful, thoughtful staff, great location. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful . Lunch was delicious. Full of character and delightful old-world charm. Bed itself comfortable and bathroom clean.
A bit chilly in bedroom and in bar too. Blinds at bedroom windows didn't block out enough, so light poured in when sun arrived after dawn!
Good location and good staff
Very busy road noise
Location was perfect for visiting Battle Abbey and town. Food (dinner) was excellent. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. The room was basic but full of character & comfortable.
The shower room could do with some decorating and the drain smelt when the toilet was flushed - we think this was possibly due to a septic tank?
The bed was very comfortable and the staff were pleasant
The room was very hot and it was near impossible to turn down the heating. It was necessary to be a contortionist with a bright torch to see the very indistinct writing on the radiator controls. The instructions said to rotate the control anti clockwise, but there were two settings on the radiator timer and temperature which greatly complicated things. The room itself was clean, but the furniture was very worn and appeared to be second hand. The cupboard appeared to be a filing cabinet in a former life. Room 2 is not for the faint-hearted as the stairs, though short, are hard to negotiate and if you are going down, are a potential death trap as the railings such as they are, are quite far away and there is an unprotected void as you come down. Definitely not for older people. The breakfast was was very pricey and not included, so we walked down the high street to a very pleasant cafe for breakfastI did not feel that we got value for money and will not return
Central to Battle. Warm room we could adjust the heating by radiator thermostat. Clean room good quality bedding en-suite. Fresh cafeteria coffee with quirky cups a lovely touch! Although on a main road corner the room was very quiet and we enjoyed a good nights sleep Room instructions in a folder in the room ie how to work the internet TV breakfast prices etc
We felt for the price of £103 per night the room was rather small and was not as large as the website picture portrayed. Perhaps a simple continental breakfast could be included? The pricing for breakfast was in the folder. Toast £5 Granola £8 we felt this was a bit pricey!
Easy to find , great staff
Parking wasn’t easy
Excellent location, warm welcome and comfortable room
Location was perfect- right by the high street. Staff were super accommodating, they even gave us some extra condiments to go with our late night chippy order. Really generous and friendly. Breakfast was lovely
Quaint building, comfortable bed
Traffic noise as my room was facing the road, I would definitely not have stayed more than the one night. Also the stairs were difficult without an adequate hand rail. However I do appreciate the constraints in a building like that
Room was ok, Could of done with a touch of colour & a few touches of TLC,Overall it was nice enough, Sloping floor that if you were worse for wear you would have been in trouble but what do you expect from a 500 yo building, Staff were pleasant & food was to a good standard..
breakfast should be an option with room, Very expensive as a seperate option, Expect close to £50 for a couple & do not agree with service charge automatically added with a breakfast price this high..
Amazing food both evening meal and breakfast , friendly staff, comfortable bed pleasant room . Pub itself interesting and quirky
Few minor things - taps a bit rattly / as beans low ( appreciate age of property ) perhaps warming sign on them would be good for taller people
Breakfast was great but the room was not so much. Bathroom absolutely tiny - hardly any room to turn around, and the walls between the rooms were paper thin so we could hear literally everything (and I mean everything) that was going on in the next roomMattress on the bed was also not great - thin and lumpy so did not get a good (2) nights sleepLovely Inn to go for a drink and I bet the dining is great but I would not choose to stay there again
The room, the bathroom, the bed, the thin walls
Location was excellent. Within very easy reach of Abbey, shops, restaurants and cafes. Rooms were a good size with nice comfy beds. Had good off road parking on site.
Was unable to have breakfast as chef had called in sick. Staff were very helpful in recommending an alternative cafe in town.
Good location for my visit, comfortable, clean and tidy, room hot but probably more related to the very warm weather, comfortable bed, good facilities
