Pros +
- The location was great, I went to an event at Sandringham estate, staff were lovely, full English was nice and plenty to eat, the grounds were beautiful and plenty of parking. The room was nice, tea/coffee facilities, nice shower, lovely views, quiet, bed comfy.
- We booked after a national press review and we were not disappointed. In fact this wonderful ancient mill exceeded our expectations in every respect. The location was idyllic with wonderful gardens and seating areas on every side of the mill to sit, relax, watch the River Wensum babble by, enjoy the locally brewed ale, excellent wines and, perhaps most of all, the quite exceptional cooking with innovative dishes. Every member of staff was warm, welcoming and highly efficient - treating us as valued guests. A remarkable conversion of a beautiful mill into a modern pub/restaurant with rooms. All within easy reach of the highlights of the gorgeous Norfolk coast.
- Nice room for dogs although being at the top was not ideal for us but wouldn’t put us off staying again.Lovely idyllic location staff were very helpful and our evening meal was very enjoyable.
Cons -
- The guy who showed us to our room didn't advise us how to get back into the building after it was closed, luckily a couple arrived after we did, and showed us how to get it. This is my only complaint, not sure what we would have done if we didn't get in the room, thank goodness for the nice couple.
- It didn't affect us but guests staying in the rooms should be aware that internal stairs could be problematic for those with mobility issues - as can be expected in an ancient mill conversion.
- Shower was broken but we didn’t realise until the morning so it was too late to repair before our departure

Beautiful location and excellent food
Shower was broken but we didn’t realise until the morning so it was too late to repair before our departure
Great location. Excellent food.
Room was very very small. Room and bathroom not clean. Lots of dust. Cobwebs. Hair in bath.
The location, the food, the wine, and the music in the bar was great
My en-suite bathroom stunk of damp, my bed was uncomfortable and breakfast wasn't being served till 9am the next day so I missed it as my meeting was at 9 am.
staff absolutely brilliant so pleasant ,helpful could not have asked for better.
Just a few little cleaning issues ,but would not stop us returning.
The pub was lovely in a really nice setting.
Our room was freezing cold when we arrived but the en-suite was warm. The heating must had been put on during the night as we woke up boiling hot.
The breakfast was to expensive should have been included. We didn't have it.
The Menu for evening meal could heve been better not much choice
A very good breakfast with good choices available. We loved the location with the mill stream. very atmospheric. It was all beautifully decorated for Christmas.
Enjoyed the eggs benedict. Lunch was very nice snd staff couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant
Would have liked some fruit at breakfast. The shower needed a shower curtain and something to hook the shower onto so you could stand under the shower
Great ambience (pity about the weather,) and very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfasts and one very good dinner. The sausage rolls, for lunch snack, were awesome. It is an old place, so we should not complain about steps etc. which add to the attraction (unless you have crutches as my wife did!) and I LOVE the man at the top of the stairs.
See above.
Bed was super comfy and the pillows AMAZING. Breakfast was fresh and hot, scrambled eggs were delicious. Friendly staff, building is beautiful and tastefully decorated. Gardens are also beautiful. Only 15 minutes from Thursford.
Very thin walls I'm afraid, lack of information and greeting when we arrived. Walking into a busy pub with my daughter was daunting and we had to stand and wait for milk, really embarrassing, stood wet in our coats with suitcases. Lack of light in the room, obviously this is due to the age of the building, but very dimly lit. Room was cold when we arrived and stayed cold, really needs a small chest of drawers for clothes. I would stay again as I would love to try out the restaurant and explore the area.
Beautiful location and the majority of the staff were exceptional really friendly. We arrived a little early for the 3pm check in and the young staff worked really hard to quickly get our rooms ready
Heating didn’t work we reported this twice and it tried to work and then stopped again. This was during an exceptionally cold night and my 86 year old mother really struggled. Considering this was 165 pounds a night per room you would expect more.no milk to go with coffee and tea . Shame a lovely location but way too expensive for what it delivered.
Clean room comfy bed
No. milk in room for tea. Non alacarte meau would be better
It’s lovely- it has beautiful things to look at, a building made up of lots of lovely rooms , very quirky and individual .It’s very peaceful and set next to a river , stunning The owners and their staff can’t do enough for you- the food we had was delicious. We were told the breakfast is first class - it was !
We certainly didn’t dislike it for being an older property - lots of stairs and a few cobwebs and creaky floorboards - which just added to the experience
The hosts were very responsive to all the queries I had in advance of our stay. We had originally booked four rooms but one couple were unable to make it. The hosts were very helpful about which of the rooms I should cancel. Our rooms were all clean and there was plenty of hot water in the bathrooms. Our room was described as compact and although it was small it had everything we needed for a two night stay. We ate at the Mill both nights, once upstairs in the restaurant and the second night in one of the nooks of the bar (though we had the restaurant menu). We all enjoyed the food. A goo range of beers and after we drank all the Jameisons they had on our first night they made sure there was a new bottle waiting for us for our second niight. Breakfast was nice with a good choice. The weather wasn't on our side for our visit but had it been less windy and dry we would have explored the area. We would stay again.
Personal preference would be to have had a TV in the room. Would also have liked firmer pillows but again that is just a personal preference.
The location was good
The room was very cold with little heating, and the shower was broken and only enough hot water for half a shower which was very dissapointing as we were 2. The bar was very sparsly stocked and did not have any ice. VERY POOR FOR A HOTEL CHARGING 180 POUNDS A NIGHT. When we complained to the staff they were very matter of fact and said we should have gone down the 2 flights of stairs to the bar and told them that half way through my wifes shower the water went cold, not a practical solution.
really special location in middle of nature reserve. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not have an evening meal but breakfast was good.
The weather was extremely cold when we stayed there and bedroom was not well heated. Only one radiator in a large room was not enough. In any other weather this would not have been a problem.
Lovely pictureque hotel in nice surroundings. Very good breakfast.
Room a bit small as was the bathroom although clean. No tv. Could have one if we asked for one. Kept banging my head on wall light.
