Pros +
- Friendly, helpful staff. Very clean, nice rooms. Lovely view.
- We received an upgraded room with balcony overlooking the river at no additional cost, and the view was outstanding. The room and ensuite bathroom were fine. We ate dinner there, it was superb. Breakfast was continental with plenty of choices (warm food was available at extra cost). Staff was friendly and accommodating. Location for us was good as we had a rental car, but since it is 5.5 miles north of Oban across the river, those without a car would encounter difficulties getting around.
- I use 4 basic criteria for travel lodging reviews: clean, quiet, safe and how well the experience met expectations. I do my homework in advance so I know what to expect and to make sure that I’m fair to the host. Lochnell Arms Hotel was great on all counts. The check-in staff (Ben) was friendly & helpful, the room was spacious, quiet, the bed was comfortable and the continental breakfast was more than sufficient to get a good start to the day. Overall a very pleasant experience.
Cons -
- Nothing, although the coffee could have been stronger.
- The stairs to our room were dreadful i have mobility issues and found the stairs very steep and difficult to negotiate, the breakfast table we were shown to was dreadful we were wedged between a table with breakfast juices and a table behind us with plenty room behind it and we could not get into our seats as too close together we asked the waiter to move us as there was plenty empty tables but no he moved the table with the breakfast juices on it so we could move our table ourselves then we waited ages for the waiter to come and take our order eventually he came to take the order and we waited 25 minutes to get our breakfast which was almost inedible when it did arrive and cold we felt sorry for the sole waiter as he was rushed off his feet very unfair, then we had to pay the tab from the previous night and almost gave up not a staff member about we stood at the till for 15 minutes eventually we paid and left and went to Oban for breakfast.
- Small bath and bedroom size. Practically no electrical sockets!Faulty shower head and substandard for the price!

The view of the water. The comfortable room. The food was very good- dinner and breakfast.
X
location , views were exceptional
shower was very small
The situation, next to the sea.
Ventilation system in our room was very noisy. Breakfast a little bit disappointing.
Breakfast was just okay, a quiet location.
The Hotel is very dated, needs modernisation, possibly demolished and rebuilt.
we had one of the rooms with a balcony which gave us a fantastic view over the water. the full Scottish breakfast was great and we also had the Kippers which were delicious. one other advantage was the fact that we could catch a bus almost on the doorstep to Oban for a day out.
There is not much to dislike here, but if i was to be ultra critical i could only fault the shower for being much to small.
A picturesque location about 10 minutes drive from the centre of Oban , right next to a lovely beach which was great for paddling , collecting unusual shells and rocks with the kids and den building. There is a lovely little walk above the beach which takes you past a local airport with some interesting planes . The sunset was beautiful and restaurant and bar has a terrace that overlooks the beach. The food was excellent with wide variety of choice for breakfast . The decor is very atmospheric and traditional looking and the kids enjoyed sitting in the game room playing chess .
I found the pillows a little thin but brought my own to replace .
Lovely hotel with gorgeous views. Really welcoming staff and great atmosphere. Meals are really good. They are very dog friendly Max had a great time meeting everyone. Will definitely come again. Thank you for a great time. Lynne Brian and Max x
Not a thing
We were touring in the highlands and stopped at the hotel at the last minute and booked a room overnight. We had a really great evening meal and the breakfast was excellent and the view of the river from the restaurant was lovely. We had a walk on the beach, right beside the hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay there again.
There was nothing we didn't like.
Food was good, staff were lovelyLocation top notch.
Really not much, the bed was rock hard and too short, there was a thrumming and clicking noise that went on most of the night, we could not sleep. It was some kind of extractor or something, but the noise was really intrusive on our sleep.
Friendly and helpful staff. Food was excellent breakfast and Sunday carvery enjoyed the Saturday night quiz didn’t have a view but there was a nice lounge to sit in.
Excellent location with beautiful views. staff extremely friendly and helpful. A lovely hotel with a cosy bar.
Parts of the hotel are needing upgrading.
Lovely quirky hotel on the waterfront, big & spacious rooms, dining area & plenty of lounge areas to sit & relax ?All of the staff were lovely & friendly & went above & beyond to help make our stay comfortable & they fed us really well too!
It's a little bit isolated but there is a bus close by that's takes you into the centre of Oban.
Great location, amazing breakfast, comfortable bed and all for a great price.
