Location on the water, in walking distance to everything in the city

Wifi didn't reach the back rooms

I really wanted to enjoy and rate, the Lancaster but Im sorry....the hotel served its function. The single room was ok...I didnt use any other facilities. The hotel reminded me of hotels back in the 60's and really needed a coat of paint and some TLC.

    Not very enjoyable!

Does what it says on the tin . Basic place but clean and beds really comfortable. Nice size room and good breakfast. Close to Oban town centre .

    Just dated .

Great location next to Oban town centre and the ferry port!

Slightly dated, not a huge complaint however

The breakfast room was lovely and the breakfast was really great. Made up a little bit the rest of the hotel.

Needs a mat in the shower. Really slippery. Needs refreshing.

The location in an old historic house facing the water is fantastic. We ate at the "bar" and had breakfast each morning. The food was excellent. The room, while tight, was comfortable and more than met our needs.

Climbing the stairs to get to the room was difficult for my mobility-impaired spouse. There are no guest rooms on the first floor. There was no cover to unload bags in the rain (which it did), and we got soaked rolling the bags from the parking lot in the back of the hotel to the entrance in the front. Then had to drag them up several stone stairs with no easy-to-get-to handrail.

I liked how the hotel was situated right in front of Oban Harbor so the guests can watch the Paddle Steamer Waverley, other ships and Caledonian MacBrayne ferries coming and going every day. This is especially good when other guests join you for a drink and a good night's conversation about a category we all have an interest in.

I felt though the rooms were a little chilly in the morning probably mainly because our room at the time didn't have a heater.

    Was only fair

Rooms old and not clean .Had several large dogs staying in hotel,no elevator very old and unkept

    7FrankPosted on: 5-16-2025

Its an older hotel but that was okay because it had character. Our room overlooked the bay and I personally liked the room.

The bathroom and shower was a bit tacky. We both ordered soup that night (Cullunskink) it was basically potato soup with a small hint of smoked haddock. Our friends had the breakfast the next morning and only said it wasn't very good.

The location was great being right on the shoreline. The views out of the lounge, bar and restaurant areas were spectacular! It is centrally located and within easy walking distance to all of downtown Oban, as well as to some historical sites, too.

For a budget hotel, the property reflected the cost.

    7DavePosted on: 4-25-2025

En suite rooms, close to town centre, Breakfast, dinner & Bar available.

Looks tired. Some en suites have been updated, others not. Beds were clean & fresh but mattresses appeared bouncy, when the fashion is for firm. Maybe it's the generation who predominantly stay here that prefer springy mattresses.

I just like it’s location and looks and the staff are really friendly and nice and helpful will be back just like the place

    8SimonPosted on: 4-24-2025

The staff were friendly and helpful. I only stayed for one night as I was travelling through Oban.

    7DavePosted on: 4-24-2025

Clean, not busy. Handy for Oban. Free parking. En suite

Dated, some rooms have had a refresh but others were looking a little dated.

    - the charging ports kind of worked- the place was clean-ish

The place looked like it came straight out of a 70's horror movie, in the worst way possible.Let's start from the hall, which was unwelcoming even in the light of the sun the day after. There was no elevator, so we had to carry up our bags several flights of stairs. The way to our room was not just scary but also incredibly long and not well indicated. The room was big, although the bathroom was barely enough to fit a person in it- so small in fact that not even the sink could fit in there, and it had to be placed on the feet of one of the beds, at the OTHER side of the room. Both the light in the bathroom and the one over the sink didn't even have a lightswitch but a string attached to them, and the light in the bathroom barely worked enough for someone to see in there (but if one were to shower it had to be in the dark)Overall, pretty bad. Well at least it looked clean.
