- The hotel is perfectly situated between Windermere and Ambleside with ample parking. The grounds are lovely with gardens and paths around to enjoy. Comfortable bed and quiet space.
Cons -
- Not a thing.
- I wish they had the food hours listed on the menu. They weren't listed so didn't know when needed to order dinner by
- The staff was friendly and kind but not particularly trained on advice for guests regarding local directions/ferry, etc. Dinner at the hotel restaurant is presented as a top notch dining experience - much ado about nothing. Not at all worth the prix fix price tag.

Definitely a highlight of our trip. Such a gorgeous place; felt like we were in an episode of Downton Abbey or something. Our room had a beautiful view of the lake, and even though it was cold and rainy, the hotel was cosy, warm and inviting, and set up perfectly for the Christmas period. Lovely staff who made us feel very welcome. Would definitely stay there again.
It was very well maintained, had stunning views, and the food was very very good!!!
The property is beautiful and peaceful with lovely grounds and cozy sitting rooms. Our room had a magnificent lake view but, as a standard double, it was very small which made it difficult to even find a spot to open our suitcases. Larger rooms existed but, apparently, not with the nice views - so that seemed to be the trade-off.

Room was amazing. Stunning view. Whole hotel had so much character. Staff were absolutely incredible. So friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic too. Also went for a walk down through the gardens into the woods and then to the edge of Windermere. Stunning venue and will defo return.
Perhaps just a little pack in the bedrooms with history of the property, map and some things to do. This was probably all in reception but didn’t check.
The coziness, the food (Cajun whitebait), the hotel staff, all the beautiful flowers and views. The nearby hikes !!

The hotel and the setting are exceptional with amazing views over lake windermere.
Room was on the small side compared to last time and the fire alarm accidently going off at midnight!!
Great food. Beautiful location. Lovely room with garden view.
Evening meal choice was limited to a very expensive 3 course dinner or rather basic bar snack. The setting and position of the hotel were absolutely superb, so to an extent compensated for this disadvantage.
Got married there 2 years ago and went back for our wedding anniversary. Absolutely gorgeous hotel. Stunning location, friendly professional staff, comfortable and excellent in every way.
The visit was our 3rd time at Cragwood, so nothing was short of our expectations. The room, service, staff, and breakfast were great as always. Ps. Special compliment to Jude: he was very attentive and helpful to us. All staff were also nice to us but he just stood out.
The setting is beautiful, the room was cosy and comfortable with a nice patio, the staff were all friendly and welcoming and the afternoon tea was delicious!
An absolute treat to stay here. Beautiful, peaceful views and great location to visit nearby attractions. Also the excitement of RAF jets flying by daily - awesome. Staff were fantastic and the room was exceptionally comfortable. Definitely would look to come back again.
Lovely hotel. Very clean. We had the ground floor rooms with the patio doors opening up to a little terrace with a pond and stunning views (definitely recommend those rooms) location is great if you want peace and quiet. It’s only 5 mins drive/ taxi to Windermere centre with plenty of country style pubs too.
Fantastic location, brilliant staff and beautiful, tasty food
Bathroom was rather small
Excellent hotel, excellent facilities, very friendly and kind staff. Brilliant location, evening meal very good. All in a very pleasant stay, strongly recommended.
The position of the hotel is lovely and has beautiful views from the garden. Gardens appeared to be well maintained too.
The room was minuscule and the whole hotel is outdated
Everything was perfect. The property has beautiful grounds to explore. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. The hosts were very friendly Views of the lake are gorgeous
