- Fabulous old country house hotel. Everything was first class. Food at both breakfast and evening meal was lovely, lounges very clean, cosy and warm with log fires, bedroom was clean and bed very comfortable. Staff very friendly and engaging but not interfering. Couldn’t fault a thing!
Cons -
- Parking a bit tight, not for those not liking stairs
- Our bed was quite hard-although I was told these are due to be upgraded and replaced shortly
- Location slightly out of town you need a car or taxi. Walking is possible but it’s a long walk and uphill coming back.

A fantastic old building with a great group of staff location is superb. An amazing quiet stay in luxury period surroundings

Lovely service, food and location.
Nothing really.
First class attention to detail staff were exceptional and accommodated our dietary requirements.
Bedroom was good with superb view of lake Windermere however bathroom very small with a sloping ceiling okay for younger person not so easy for older person.
Location
Room too small and house too cold
The location is superb The staff were friendly and helpfulThe dining room, sitting room and library are stunningThe garden is beautiful The bedroom was very comfortable with good facilities
The dinner and breakfast didn’t match up to everything else.
Beautiful location, property well-maintained, outstanding staff & service - nothing was too much trouble, words I rarely use to describe a hospitality experience, but true here every day. We all enjoyed our visits - myself, and the family & friends who joined me at this Storrs base. This is truly a hidden gem, and a rare find.
Loved the quiet location, it is immaculately clean. The decor is beautiful, as are the gardens. The lounge areas are cosy and comfortable, nothing is too much trouble. We loved it and would 100% stay here again. It was so calm and peaceful and it felt like a home from home.
Literally my only quibble would be that as we were in the downstairs room you can hear noise from the entrance way. It didn’t bother us at night as the bar area and music stops at 10:30 which I think is an acceptable time, but you can hear people coming to look at the lounge area which is right next to the room, so you can hear people by your door. I was hoping for a lie-in in the morning but at 7:30am you can hear them setting up for opening. I thought a doorway before the room door might be a good idea, to create a vestibule.
Friendly staff, top-notch food, and lovely grounds made this a highlight of our family trip (2 teens + parents) to the UK. Serene escape from the bustle of Windermere. Make sure to book for dinner then watch sunset over the hills from the terrace!

Breakfast
Place is cosy; has a home feel, however, doesn't have any "facilities" or leisure facilities per se for a "five stars" hotel.
Clean , quaint , excellent service. Breakfast was amazing too.
Our room was nice but very small.
Croquet courtLush gardenExcellent detailing in interiors, extra consideration & care are evident
All the staff were very friendly, Ashley and Jade went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Check-in was quick and the room was well appointed and immaculately clean, with the room being cleaned and beds made wonderfully every day. Breakfast was great, quickly served and with plenty of choice. The location was good with a short 20 minute walk into Bowness helpfully suggested by Ashley. The grounds were beautiful and the view from the breakfast room and our hotel room were incredible. Would stay here again.
It was simply wonderful and we would come back anytime.
It was 30 degrees at the time and we had a beautiful room under the roof with a view of the lake. The only downside was that it didn't have air conditioning and was therefore very warm.
The food was very good and the location very pleasant
Our room was very dated and not a pleasant place to sleep. We didn’t feel it was as clean as it could have been and maybe this was because all the furniture was very old!
Tasty varied breakfast and cooked to order
The room could have been bigger and more spacious
