- A wonderful experience, great attention to detail. Staff willing to assist in every possible way. Even picking up luggage at ferry and returning on leaving.
- A quirky old castle with modern facilities close to the Quay and town. Amazing meals available on site at excellent value especially the in house dinner menu. Staff were all very friendly and helpful and informative. Room was great with good beds and lots of hot water.
- Wonderful location, views, access to town and ferries. Shuttle to and from airport. Fabulous breakfast. Both restaurants absolutely first class with incredible food and friendly service. Great staff, always available to answer questions and give advice.
Cons -
- Coffee bags in the room rather than instant sachets
- The Scillies are an expensive place to get to and to stay on. I understand why but the fact remains.
- I did not like that it was not dog friendly . I went and paid for two small dogs . Although I understand that dogs could not eat in restaurant , I did not like that I felt like a second class citizen eating in a bedroom corridor which was made up for me with the dogs at breakfast . People going in and out of their bedrooms . I felt that comfortable . A staff member reluctantly made a table up for me in the dungeon bar for dinner but only after I saw another person was there with their dog . The hotel should not advertise and take money for dogs when not dog friendly . When I gave feedback to a staff member at reception called Sarah .. she became defensive . Saying this is not the hotel for you ... staff should be more open to feedback . Aldo they added 19 pounds to my bill for wine that I did not have ... once I pointed it out Sarah did remove it saying ... thee was a discrepancy and we did not know if it was yours or not ..... this is frankly not on . I would not stay here again with or without dogs .

The breakfast, whether in the castle, the conservatory or in the room was excellent
Coffee bags in the room rather than instant sachets
Always love the Star Castle hotel. Great friendly staff and fabulous food. The perfect spot to stroll down the hill into town.
I bought this trip for my parents as a Christmas present. This review is a summary of their experience. This was a wonderful stay. The staff were welcoming, efficient and helpful in their communications before we arrived and throughout our visit. The room was beautifully furnished, very spacious, well equipped, comfortable and with amazing views out to the other islands. The food in the main dining room and at breakfast was delicious and the service excellent. The transfer to and from the airport worked very well too.
Reception staff were friendly and accommodating. The free taxi service is a bonus. The setting is probably the best on St Mary's. The quality of the room, room furnishings and room terrace mirror the price.

Lovely location, very helpful staff. Great bar and main restaurant and food. Good value. Vine restaurant needs a little work
The position of the hotel is wonderful and the walk around the garrison was great .The food was very very good . More like Michelin star . The housekeeping staff were friendly and did a great job cleaning .

Location . Staff was very obliging and friendly.
Hot Breakfast needed to be hot , not warm. We had to ask for toast not offered . Kettle in room had to be put on floor to plug in then put back in window to use . Bedroom very small hit head on slopping window . No mimi fridge or hairdryer . Tv not tuned in . Small mirror . Bathroom very dated .
Beautiful location but steep walk up to castle. Staff v friendly & helpful. Excellent food with changing menu daily. Lovely restful holiday. Garden room was spacious & comfy.
Nothing really. Weather was a bit mixed but it brightened up so that was good.
Star castle is a fantastic place to stay. Everything about it was wonderful, from the winding entrance past stone walls, the friendly welcome and the excellent service by all the staff, to the quirky and very comfortable rooms. The food is exceptional and I enjoyed visiting both the restaurant and the dungeon bar. the swimming pool is also nice and warm, perfect for the slightly chilly days in autumn.
The pool could have been cleaner, there is a lot of algae growing in it. Very minor point and didn't impact my stay.
wonderful location.Staff welcoming friendly and professional. Food was wonderful.Lovely breakfast and dinner menu was superb
Very old and quirky property.Stayed in garden suite which was large and very comfortable.Food was excellent and staff very attentive.
Some areas were difficult for access if you had mobility problems.
Location, superb history. Views. Clean. Own minibus. Excellent staff. Pool/Jacuzzi
Breakfast was Ok - a little limited other than "cooked"Dinner was good, but perhaps over elaborateRoom - very small and not easy to move around due to sloping ceiling in eaves. Bathroom was tired
The room was poor for the money due to size and ceiling shape
Unique historical hotel in the centre of the original Garrison battlements. Breakfast was good, dinners excellent with a choice of two restaurants. Bedroom was the guards room which was small but comfortable, stone with its own door accessed from the castle wide grassy battlements. Quite an experience.
On initial entry to the room it looked clean but the phone did not work so looking to see if it was plugged in I checked behind the bedside table to be faced with a cobweb and a rather large spider which looked as if it had been in residence for some time. I think that because of the nature of an old stone building and with the nooks and crannies extra care is needed when cleaning the room.
Great location even if it was at the top of a steep hill. Views are fantastic. Staff were all very friendly and efficient and very helpful.
Room was a little small but very clean and comfortable.
Breakfast and Dinner were very niceOur room was comfortable and clean
We had one morning with no hot water. We reported this and by the time we got back later that afternoon it had been resolved. Unfortunately one night we had to eat elsewhere as the had been a leak following torrential rain. Unfortunate but couldn't be helped. The alternative was ok but not as good as The Castle itself.
Very friendly, helpful staff, very good food, luggage was taken to and from the ferry, Was great to stay in such an historic building!
