About

This magnificent 14th-century castle is set in a 12-acre woodland estate. Many rooms have luxury features such as four-poster beds, or a window seat set in the old stone walls, looking out over the beautiful grounds. Enjoy a candlelit dinner in Josephine’s Restaurant, awarded 2 AA Rosettes for its fine food. It offers regional produce, seasonal fish and local game. You can also have a drink in the superb drawing room, with stained-glass windows and a log fire. The award-winning Langley Castle was built in 1350, during the reign of Edward III. It has 7-foot thick walls, and far-reaching views over the Northumbrian Valley. Wi-Fi is free throughout the building, and parking is free on site. Langley Castle is perfect for discovering Hadrian’s Wall, just 5 miles from the building. Newcastle city center can be reached in less than 40 minutes’ drive.

    • Room was quite and a comfortable temperature. Food was excellent. Peacock was nice. Unique experience.
    • an amazing place to stay
    • The breakfast was good and the staff were excellent. You can get a taxi and go two of the larger towns. The castle was awesome and I can't say enough about the warm, kind person that we encounter everywhere!

    Cons -

    • Room was not on ground floor. The bill was really confusing and I did not understand why the food bill was split. Not a good practice.

The dinner menu was kind of different and as I have a restricted diet i had to work around it but I managed.

Gorgeous castle with wonderful breakfast in the castle dining room. We stayed in a castle view room (not really a view of the castle though). The room was large and comfortable.

One of the entrance drives was very narrow off a narrow road. Parking spots were narrow.

The architecture, history and unique structure, as well as reasonable proximity to the Hadrian’s Wall walk. Castle rooms are unique and charming. The exterior buildings like the Castleview rooms are fine too, but not the point.

It simply offers lovely accommodation, a restaurant, bar and garden walks. Beyond that we had trouble doing things like getting a rec for a massage (none on site) and the recommended riding option nearby never even returned a call/text.

Langley Castle was fantastic. We stayed at the Radcliffe and Greenwich rooms. Both rooms were spacious, with comfortable beds and luxurious bathrooms. The castle tour and breakfast were good.

The restaurant was meh. We ordered from the relaxed dining menu and the food was not good. Maybe the fixed menu is better? Skip the children’s menu. The pasta was awful. It’s supposed to be three cheese but it was not cheesy at all. Dinner was not worth it.

Such an amazing place to stay! Our room in the castle was lovely and the whole place is just incredible! Especially fun was the tour the next day - got to go to the top of the castle which was super cool. Only thing that wasn't my favorite was the dinner we had. We did the 3 course meal and it was not as good as I had hoped. Totally should've gone with the other food they offered. But so happy we stayed at this lovely place!

The 3 course meal was a bit, meh.

The rooms were fabulous. The food was excellent, the tour was great.

Only thing I can say is the beds were hard and pillows flat- not super comfortable.

    A really disappointing stay

Only 8 rooms are in the castle, the so called castle view rooms don't have a castle view unless it's winter and you can see through the trees. The castle itself is surrounded by a carpark so it spoils the look and you have to walk a long way with your bags. You will need a coat to Go for breakfast and dinner, which are poor quality and overpriced. The tour is interesting but half of it is a sales pitch for the wedding business side of things. It's tired and dated with years of wear showing on the fixtures and fittings, the castle itself is a lovely building. There is no generosity of spirit or sense of hospitality it felt and smelt like a 1970 nursing home.Could not recommend.

Individual and unusual, lots of thoughtful details and good amenities. Super friendly team who were knowledgeable and professional. High quality service, with no pretension and the food in the restaurant is excellent.

The staff was helpful and efficient. The castle tour led by a young woman on July 22 was phenomenal. She fully presented the history and functions of the castle. Food was great too.

    7ErinPosted on: 7-22-2025

Beautiful room and well-equipped, castle wonderful to explore, great food, most staff great, meals a special experience in the drawing to enjoy dining rooms. And peacocks!

Some details need attention- bathtubs not draining, broken soap dispenser etc. Most staff were keen, friendly and helpful. Blonde woman at reception was oddly hostile despite our deliberately attempting to be friendly, so much so we were joking she was in the “inhospitality” industry.

Location great, quiet and peaceful, breakfast very good. Dinner also very good.

Dining here is a little on the expensive side.Room 10 didn't have a castle view, as expected.

    9MelissaPosted on: 7-14-2025

The castle tour. Castle view rooms are great! The cats and peacocks in the property where lovely.

This beautiful castle hotel has a very special atmosphere. We loved the location, the garden, walking through the corridors, climbing up the stairs, and the tea room. Our room was gorgeous, with a very comfortable bed and a lovely little seating area with two benches near the window. There are many similar places around the castle.

    Nothing, it was great!

Unique and charming property. Room was comfortable and staff treated you well

    All was good.

Everything here is well done and well thought out. The room in the main castle was wonderful-- spacious and comfortable. I loved the window seat nestled in the 7 foot thick castle wall. The bathroom was great with a shower that sprayed from multiple points. Breakfast was excellent and service was friendly and efficient. Drinks in the large sitting room were nicely served, as we sat under a picture of my great, great+++ grandfather, King Edward III.All in all, a great stay that was over too soon.

    Nothing to complain about.

We stayed in the castle. Loves the drawing room/bar. The dinner was spectacular.

Didn’t get to stay long enough!

Beautiful and restful surroundings and loved the history of the hotel.

The bed was not that comfortable.
