- Excellent value for money. Great location in old town Shanklin, with easy walk into main town and lots of food and drink options locally. Easy walk to beach via road or chine (charged). Friendly helpful hosts. Full English breakfast was cooked perfectly (optional extra charge, book the night before, ad hoc). No pressure to purchase any extras. Free safe parking on site. Front door key provided as well as room key. We had a lovely deep bath in en-suite with a shower over. TV in room and free internet connection was good. Bed linen and towels were classic pure white and decent quality. The hotel features in the superb model village nearby.
- The welcome to us and our four-legged friend was exceptional. The hotel was clean, the location of the rooms thoughtfully considered, and the breakfast was excellent.
Cons -
- This 1824 substantial property would be improved with more modern decor, carpets, furniture, windows, electrics (hidden ducting), fridge in room, and a lift... it doesn't feel like a luxurious treat, but everything worked fine, and our room was clean and was comfortable. Bar and dining areas huge so lacked a cosy atmosphere. For the price paid, it was great value for money, and we only wanted somewhere to sleep as there's so much to explore on the Isle of Wight.
- The owners are working hard to improve the look of the hotel, but this is reflected in the price, so there is not much to dislike.
