    Pros +

    • price was decent, location was excellent for the national park.
    • Staff are lovely. The hotel is very tired and run down, but I understand there are plans in place to renovate it. The bed was comfortable.Breakfast was good.
    • Beautiful building in stunning setting with extremely friendly staff.

    Cons -

    • the rooms looked like they were in an asylum or something - super duper old, needed paint, new carpets just in desperate need of an updating remodel. did not feel cozy. had to walk half a mile from the elevator to our room, through several doorways while dragging heavy bags with us.
    • There was no selection of herbal teas at breakfast, which was disappointing.
    • Our room at the back looking over the carpark was very tired.

Clean, comfortable, great breakfast, good location, friendly helpful staff, the accessible room we requested was one of the better accessible rooms we have stayed in

The Location was great it was clean and the staff were lovely and friendly

The building itself looks amazing, from the exterior. All the staff were very friendly, helpful and polite. All the staff working at the Tarbet deserve a workplace that matches their professionalism and dedication to their guests. The breakfast was very good. Location is great, overlooking Loch Lomond and with regular boat trips that come and go very close to the hotel location. Good parking on the grounds with disabled spaces close to the entrance.

Once inside, and although it's fairly clean, the interior looks dated. There was 1980's music playing around the reception area on arrival and that was probably the last time the hotel had a redecoration. The elevator is fully lined with carpet, not just the floor but the walls too, which was a first experience for me. I travelled with a family member sleeping in separate rooms and for one night only. One room was very dusty behind the bed but otherwise the rooms and bathrooms were clean. In my room, the bed had a hole in it on one side of the base, and I didn't realise this until I got into bed at the end of the day when part of the mattress sunk down the gap in the base. Evening meal quality was not great. The pizza crust was rock hard and the crumble dessert was a tragedy. The evening meal was not worth the money.

Everyone was lovely, the room was very comfortable.

Not enough outlets in the room, difficulty getting things charged.

    Not a lot.

They failed to realise we had two consecutive bookings. First room 127 was significantly smaller than the one booked, in fact it is the smallest room. It was dirty in the bathroom, not clean behind the doors and soap dispensers dirty and marked. Even worse was the drainpipe above the room which leaked with water pouring noisily down the wall and window. The bed was extremely small and the mattress poor and old. Very uncomfortable night. Changed room the next day to 123 which was larger with a better bed. However, still not very clean in bathroom, old duvet and covers left on wardrobe, damp patches on walls, no toilet roll, damaged half open tunnocks, curtains coming off rails,Terrible shower with no power, ridiculous bright blue light on all night for bathroom radiator, holes in ceiling. Loud music playing incessantly in common areas, bar with television on permanently but no sound and no text - turn them off! No breakfast menu, no yoghurt, no marmalade, the oiliest eggs and mushrooms ever seen. Bread that doesn't fit the toaster. Staff hygiene poor.Dinner menu on shoddy laminated white paper it's just off-putting. Staffing levels like the Marie Celeste. Could be so much better looks great from outside until you step through the door.

Great location and very friendly staff.

Our room could do with some tlc.

Beautiful location and very attractive building from the outside. Staff were friendly and the place was clean and well cared for. We we there at end of season so the hotel was not busy and guest experience quiet. Dinner menu limited but very tasty

Decor and facilities very tired and dated. The rooms were basic and did not meet current modern expectations for lighting, power and controllable heating within the rooms. Need to think more carefully about how guests function in a room!! Ladies need light when getting ready not the equivalent of 25watt lights! Manager needs to try staying over and consider 'whats wrong'??? Or 'what simple changes could make this better'?? Lighting's on the dressing table, or floor lamp?Tiny wardrobe, so where do you put large outdoor coats?. How about coat hooks? Bathrooms too could be improved and better considered e.g towel rail located too close to Wc could get burnt using wc when switched on. WHB pushed into corner when loads of space on the free side could have been a location for shelves, radiator, towel rail etc. Nowhere to put toiletries!!!Breakfast.... cold cooked breakfast.. virtually no heat from the heating burners under the serving pans. Gross oily scrambled eggs. Inedible re-cooked bacon. Reception not always manned so no means of getting attention of staff in back office e.g bell. Have to wait until you ate noticed on camera!Message to Manager- get the basics right and don't assume all OK if you have not received a specific complaint. Be more aware of basic guest needs and expectations. Nail those please cos the hotel has the potential to be great.

location - as i was breaking journey on the way north

Quite astonishingly there was not ONE SINGLE VEGETARIAN MAIN COURSE - let alone a vegan one - on the menu, even though the menu was quite large. And even as a starter the soup wasn’t vegan. It’s 2025 not 1960.

    9AnnePosted on: 10-26-2025

Beautiful old building and nice bar with fabulous views of the loch.

Very little gluten free provision on the evening menu resulted in me not having dinner which I was looking forward to. Breakfast was good.

A beautiful property in a great location with the Loch a stone’s throw away (over the road). Lovely friendly staff and a fantastic room with a really comfy bed and stunning views.

The food was not up to the standard of the hotel (frozen chips, microwaved mash and veg) so we found it overpriced for what it was and we had much better quality food for the same price in other places. Breakfast was better than the tea time menu with lots of options

Gorgeous at the front, lovely entrance. Food wasn’t bad. Staff nice enough. Gorgeous view of Loch Lomond.

Back of the property was awful. Hotel was unkempt and dirty. Room and bathroom dirty. Hairs in the shower (more than one, and not head hair). Bathroom floor dirty. Tile grout mouldy. Dog bone under bed (we didn’t have a dog with us). Milk carton under cupboard (we didn’t drop it). Smelly.

    Beautiful old building

Lack of atmosphere, dining/ bar and our room quite cold .Breakfast mediocre. It served as a stop over but I would not return

Location as it was near to where I was heading to for a conference.

The hotel is tired, the room was small, even for a single. Kettle was hevily limescaled, and the door lock to the room was difficult to open both inside and outside. The room was cold when I arrived and a smell which I believe was coming from the kitchen. The bathroom was tight, but I could just about turn. There were thick cobwebs in the room. The corridors are dark and look like old institutions from the 70s. The rear car park has a building that looks like it's falling down. The rear of the hotel was clearly built in the 60s and needs knocking down. The front of the hotel is somewhat a fascard to what you find inside. Real let down. No, I won't be staying again, that's for sure.

Staff very pleasant and helpful. Food was good and the price very acceptable.

Don’t want to be negative but radiator in bathroom needed to be on .

    8LarrainecPosted on: 10-19-2025

Room was spacious with a beautiful view of Loch Lomond.

I found the room too hot, though I could open the window, and the bedding/pillows were not the best quality. The bed is made with just a bottom sheet and a doona, not top sheet, which I find too hot to sleep comfortably in.

    5HarrisonPosted on: 10-18-2025

Nice building and location. Dinner was adequate, breakfast was good although the warming plates could be hotter as the food was slightly luke warm. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Inside it was a bit dated, the double bed was two singles pushed together so it was uncomfortable with a gap between the mattresses. Room wasn't refreshed each morning so we didnt have enough tea or milk.

    Clean and comfortable
