The Balavil Hotel Newtonmore - Restaurant, Bars & Swimming Pool

Nice decor, well refurbished. Comfortable chairs, beds, seats everywhere. Everyone was so friendly. Great breakfast. Really amazing bacon.

Situated in a road, so a little traffic noise. The room was very warm at night.

Lovely hotel with a friendly atmosphere. Staff were lovely & the food in the restaurant was fabulous. We really enjoyed our stay.

Only complaint would be room was very warm but it wasn’t really an issue.

We could hear everything happening in the room above us, including the very noisy bathroom fan and sounded like the geyser every time they showered. This was unfortunate because they went to bed really late and woke up early.

I liked the friendly staff, and the peace and quietness of the hotel.

Quiet and comfortable, ideally located for the surrounding area. Staff friendly and welcoming and the breakfast is freshly prepared and plentiful

The hotel is well situated, easily accessible from the A9 and right next door to a coop if you need anything. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, you didn’t feel in any way like an inconvenience. The food in the restaurant and at breakfast was great. Although some of the dinner options were a little unexpected, e.g the haggis starter with a whisky and mustard sauce came in a kid of soup bowl, with the haggis in the middle surrounded by the sauce, almost like a soup. However, it tasted great so was good to have all that whisky sauce! Breakfast was great both days, all your cold stuff and a cooked to order menu too.

The beds were far too soft and i would have liked to have an armchair in room rather than dining chairs.

Nothing it was impeccable, great value

Very good friendly attentive staff. Prioritised you a place to book evening meal as they get fully booked by walk-ins & as their food is exceptional. Good breakfast service

The 1 only thing that let the experience down was the uncomfortable bed leading to uncertain sleep.

A staff member named Isla was outstanding: always smiling, helpful and proactive. The food was delicious. The hotel decor was traditional with comfort in mind. There was a good buzz in the bar and dining areas. I had a great, hot shower with good pressure and the bed was clean and comfortable.

We really enjoyed staying at this hotel - comfy room with plenty of space. Restaurant and bar was brilliant and the food was an excellent quality.

Staff were lovely. Comfortable hotel. Lovely room. Nice atmosphere.

The dinner was amazing. The breakfast too. The bacon was the best we had in Scotland. And the staff were really friendly and helpful. Good value for money. If we'd had more time, we wouldve used the pool which looked really inviting. Bathroom was roomy and very clean.

The bed wasn't too comfortable and the cleanliness of some of the room chairs - sadly stained.

The restaurant (food and service) was amazing.Staff as well.

Too expensive for a vintage hotel. A little noisy. You can hear people walking from the room above.No laudry service.Location in the middle of nowhere.

.This time of year is for coach trips and was a lot noisier than the time we spent in May (2025). The cabaret for this trip was extremely loud, by Sol, was extremely loud. We prefer a quiet space. While we had a great room at the front of the hotel it meant it was noisy until 10pm

Amazing staff, so welcoming and friendly. Receptionist gave me a towel on arrival to help me dry off as soon as wet outside.Restaurant and bar staff excellent and friendly.

Some areas need a little love around hotel and updating

The location is good

The rooms are small, the furniture is old and shabby (so are the carpets), the shower is too small. The rooms were cleaned only sporadically, even if we put the signs out (they have a strange policy that the rooms are not attended to for the first two days). The whole place is in dire need of a renovation.
