Cons -
- Old rooms, ancient furniture
- I cannot think of anything
- It could use some repairs and there were some parts of the room not in great working order, but I understand it’s an old building in an old Burgh. That adds to the charm.

The breakfast was amazing and I enjoyed the antique decor.

The old stone building and history.
Small room.
No water in bathroom, so couldn't have a bath after a Long walk
The room was clean, beds were comfortable, breakfast was exceptional
Bathroom needs some improvement
Lovely historic hotel in downtown Tain.
It is a old hotel, but the room was a bit too musty smelling.
The manager is very kind and helpful.Dinner was very good.
It’s an old and outfashioned hotel which would definitely need some refurbishmeny and modernization. It’s perfect if you like the Addams Family…
This is a beautiful historic hotel in the centre of Tain. It’s a great location and is a well priced hotel unpretentious and welcoming. The cooked breakfast is delicious and there are plenty of options to choose from.
The bedrooms are comfortable and clean but probably would benefit from a wee refresh over time
The location of the hotel and the breakfast was excellent. A huge portion of food was served for the big breakfast and was very tasty.
There was only one member of staff around during the majority of our stay. He served in the bar, reception, and served us breakfast. The first morning we had to ask for more bread as only crusts were left. The bottom of the bread bin was very sticky and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a while. On the second morning, we had to go and find a member of staff to serve us breakfast to be told that the usual chap had gone to the shop. He did appear and took our orders, however he forgot to bring our tea. The placemats on the table were very sticky and again could do with a good clean. On the first evening we decided to try the hotel bar. When we arrived it was full of the hotel family and kids who were asked to leave when we came in. The big function hall has a mattress for children to sleep on.Our bedroom was damp and had water stains on the wall. The TV didn't work at all as the cable appeared to have been cut and the curtains were falling off of the rail. The bathroom had mould and the bath and heated towel rail were mended with tape. The heated towel rail had a PAT testing sticker indicating that the next test should have been in 2018.The building is in a sorry state of affairs which is very sad to see. Speaking to locals, they advised that the hotel has gone down hill drastically in the past 5/6 years.
When we walked through the door we were treated like 5 star guests ,and was told we were entitled to an upgrade and they gave us a room with a 4 Poster bed which delighted my American Wife. The breakfast choices were lavish and plentiful, I ordered the Scottish Breakfast, and received bacon, egg, link sausage, haggis, black pudding, potato scone ,hash brown, and baked beans , the plate was virtually overflowing, we would recommend this hotel for the friendly staff , and the cleanliness of the room and the breakfast.
The sheets and the towels were clean. It was quiet.
On arrival the reception area was chaotic and very messy with the staffs personal items everywhere. A small unattended child was screaming from behind a glass door that was very disturbing. We requested a quiet room at the back and were shown to one at the front with a toilet that wouldn't flush so we asked for another and were taken to one at the back. There was no internet it was freezing cold the smell of damp was extreme and the heater didn't work. I shivered in the bed even though I had our coats on top of the grubby blanket. I hardly slept as I smelt smoke in the corridors as was concerned for our safety. In the morning we did enjoy some eggs n toast but realised we were the only people that had been for breakfast. All the time we were there we never saw or heard another visitor. In future when I book through booking.com I will be checking reviews. This hotel really upset me as I had a long onwards journey with little sleep. It seriously needs investment. I have photos that I will add if I can.
Excellent breakfast!Friendly helpful staff.Very comfy bed.
Clean comfortable hotel, staff friendly and helpful.
Great staff and food was excellent. Boardroom was an amazing room.
Some areas are a little tired.
Very dated decor, wallpaper peeling off walls in bedroom, visible damp patches, very poor shower facilities, Wi-Fi not good, needs a total revamp, not recommended at all
Very welcoming , good choice pleasant staff.
Cold room, difficult stairs, no receptionist.
Location and easy parking, nice breakfast . Reception staff friendly
Room was dirty, pretty worn out. Steep steps to the upper floor with an unfeasibly narrow door when dragging casesBar was open but unmanned - room was frozen cold
The staff were very friendly, the rooms were nice and warm and comfortable,The breakfast was big and tasty.
My personal opinion the place could do with a lick of paint maybe different colours. The rooms could do with more fashionable beds and furniture.
