    Pros +

    • This hotel is the best value I have ever experienced in all my travels. It is located across the street from arguably the best golf course in the world. The food , rooms, and service far exceeded my expectations. We booked for two days but stayed two xtra
    • The hotel has a wonderful front porch which was nice to sit on and watch the sun go down and enjoy a drink. We had one bright spot with Ava in the restaurant who was extremely nice, helpful and provided us great service.
    • Nice view

    Cons -

    • Just wish I could have stayed longer. Wonderful!!!!¿
    • The service was very much below expectations. There was no one to meet us as we arrived, the front desk had no one there. The staff finally came out after a few and was not friendly or helpful. There was no one to help bring in our luggage. We eat dinner on site and the food was good but the server was rude and not very friendly. The facility was not at the level expected from Marine and Lawn, this place was not even close to the Rusacks level. Rooms had no air conditioning, front fence was falling over and general overall external appearance was disappointing.
    • Breakfast options were few and lack of quality. You should go have breakfast at Dornoch Castle, as it is much better. The staff not all that friendly.

    Staff were helpful and friendly

Room was dark with very little natural light. View from the window was of the adjacent wall. No mirror at the desk, which meant applying makeup standing at the bathroom sink. No electrical socket near the mirror for plugging in hairdryer and straighteners (staff were very helpful and managed to find me an extension cable which was very much appreciated).Overall I felt that the hotel was well overpriced.

Incredible experience at Dornoch Station. The facility, room and restaurant are impeccable.

Our room was lovely with a very comfortable bed and a great view of the golf course and sea from our little sitting area. There was a good choice of hot dishes along with cold ham and cheese for breakfast as well as cereals, yoghurt and fruit.Friendly bar staff.

Breakfast on our second morning was poorly managed. There was very little fruit salad left at time we were at breakfast. I waited a good while for my cooked breakfast, indeed I had to remind a member of staff, and when it arrived it was cold. I informed a member of staff and another was provided. I did receive an apology.I accept the staff were very busy at that time but I feel it would be helpful to have a staff member overseeing everything to ensure fruit juice, fruit salad, pastries etc. were replenished and guests did not have to wait too long for an order.

Beautiful hotel located just walking distance from royal dornoch golf club. Staff was extremely friendly and supportive of our request to change room, we were first given an accessible room, but they were able to change it promptly. Great view of the course and lovely stay. Highly recommended

The beauty, space, rural and beach.

The difficulty and cost in getting transportation to and from hotel for the train and to see the castle.

Traditional Scottish Hotel. Great Restaurant and staff

    Room too hot

Loved the entrance and dining room interiors. Decor in the bedroom was a little “busy”!

Why oh why did they simply paint the doors with dark blue gloss paint. The look is awful and the paint has stuck to the door frames!!!

Beautiful property in a beautiful location.

The front desk woman was awful and ruined our stay. She started out accusing of booking a room that was too small for our party (which we didn’t do), followed it up by calling us during our afternoon golf round to berate us more and demand we call booking.com ourselves. The rest of the staff was helpful and hospitable later after she left, but the next morning upon her return she loudly lectured my husband at checkout in front of other guests, accusing him of lying while booking. She was sheepish after he proved to her that her suspicions were untrue and unfounded but she definitely ruined our trip to Dornoch. I hope they place someone else at the front of house. We have stayed at many Marine and Lawn properties with our family and have always have the most amazing experience so we were totally taken aback by this experience.

    Decor. Lovely location.

Fridge and telephone in the room didn’t work. Had to ask staff 3 times before the fridge was replaced. The telephone was not rectified. Waited 5 minutes at reception before staff appeared only to be told I should have gone to the bar to get someone.

We were impressed by the hotel’s wonderful situation, its lovely decor and ambiance, the delicious meals and super service from staff (apart from the receptionist who dealt with us on arrival and departure). In particular, we found all the waiting staff very attentive and would especially like to highlight Steph for her warm and friendly manner. One member of the reception team turned what was a very relaxing and positive experience into an unnecessarily stressful and negative one.

•Unfriendly customer service from the lady on reception when we arrived and left, in particular whilst redeeming my e-gift voucher of £150.•Also no response from the hotel or Marine and Lawn group to my emails since.I am pretty easy going, having worked in customer service for years and travelled extensively, so one negative interaction can be put down to a member of staff having a bad day or a genuine miscommunication. However-An ongoing lack of solution-focus and positive regard whilst engaging with a guest is poor customer service and, in this case, totally spoiled what was meant to be a special stay to celebrate a special birthday for myself.•I had a Marine and Lawn Gift voucher for £150 which I wanted to use for paying for our evening meal and drinks(room and breakfast were paid for prior to arrival). In order for this to run smoothly, I phoned and messaged the hotel in January to arrange this.•There is a message in my Booking.com details from Matthew of the hotel Reservations team, sent on 30 January’25, advising that he has received my voucher details and number and “ I have updated this on your booking accordingly”Whilst I tried to redeem my voucher the receptionist:-•told me my voucher had already been redeemed, then when I advised it hadn’t, she said it was another guest’s she was speaking about;•told me my voucher “wasn’t one of ours”;•told me after accepting the voucher was a generic Marine and Lawn voucher and valid, that the reference code which I read out fromthe email wasn’t the correct one;•asked me to email the voucher to the hotel which I did and then said the email hadn’t arrived;•referred to me as “she” in front of the manager as I stood beside her and the manager.•when a third member of staff accepted the voucher code, the receptionist advised that this wasn’t enough (contradicting the emailwording) and that I needed to provide a 6 number code (this would all have been in the booking details).

Wonderful location in a wonderful town. The staff were very friendly, especially in reception and the bar. Recently refurbished.

Dull bar. Did not have the Masters on in a golf town.Too expensive ( why it was empty?), and our room was quite small with only a side window.

Location and staff were great. Nice decor and good breakfast

Room dark with a tiny window. Lighting so poor we couldn’t read. No drawers to store clothes. For a golf hotel we were surprised that no golf could be viewed on the tv in the room or the bar - we had to go to another hotel to see the Masters being played!!

We stayed two nights and found the hotel staff to be charming and helpful. The rooms are beautifully refurbished with exquisite fabrics and wall coverings.

A lovely room on the second floor Excellent breakfast

The shower did not have a full door, it needs one.

The property was fabulous. The hotel inside was absolutely amazing and the decor outstanding.

The room was very warm and no heating was on. No restaurant was available and drinks in the bar were super expensive.

Beautifully presented room. It was spotlessly clean. Great to have a fridge and complimentary tea, coffee, milk and water- loved the reawakens too.
