    Pros +

    • Good hotel, room was quite small, clean, shared bathroom, staff extremely helpful, I was flying home so I had to dispense of a gas canister and the lady helped me.
    • Fantastic location on the NC500 driving the anti clockwise route. Friendly service, welcoming small bar and delicious breakfast. Facilities more than adequate for a solo traveller with shared bathroom facilities.
    • Single Room with shared facilities booked. Room was compact ,very clean and bed was very comfortable. Shared bathroom was well appointed and very clean and tidy. This is ,at the price point, an ideal stop point for anyone considering the John O Groats Way. The adjoining pub had a real fire plus reasonably priced pint.

    Cons -

    • Nothing to dislike.
    • the mattress could do with new one as springs came through, coffee breakfast cold. shower trickled. dated
    • Breakfast poor for someone who doesn't eat the usual cooked breakfast. Lousy cheap orange juice, two bits of toast and tiny packet of Corn Flakes. Option of herbal fruit tea non existent.

only went to the Belgrave for its location In Helmsdale. The hotel is beside the A9 trunk road, but the traffic noise was barely noticeable. The rooms are not en-suite hence the very reasonable prices. It's an old fashioned hotel, not far off 200 years old. The owners are very pleasant and breakfast as good as in any other budget hotel. The hotel is popular with Land's End to John o'Groats walkers.

    Can't think of anything!

Set in the main high street this was easy to get to and close to the local amenities straight in the A9. The host who greeted me was very helpful and did let me know where the local shop and food places were. There is a bar area and breakfast is served here although I didn't eat as I left early I can't comment on the breakfast. I was in a single room with a shared toilet bathroom which wasn't a problem.

The walls are paper thin and although there were small ear buds provided this did not stop me hearing the drunk person in the room next door all night and had a terrible night's sleep.

Top breakfast, Helmsdale is a nice wee town, the owners were lovely, nice bar with a pint of real ale.

    All good

It was right on the JoG trail and for me, represented excellent value for money. I got a comfortable place to sleep, a piping hot shower and a generous complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits including breakfast!

The room I was given provided complimentary ear plugs as the window faced a busy main road. In fairness however, this didn’t bother me as I was out like a light.

    Good breakfast

Bit dated. Could do with an update. Didn't even know who owned the property as no-one introduced themselves, interacted with us (apart from check in) or said goodbye. Felt a bit cold and uninviting.

The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of Helmsdale but right next to the bridge into the village. Inside, it is perfectly comfortable and the food, including vegetarian options, was ample and tasty. The owners treated me very well and even gave me a lift back to Inverness. They are also knowledgeable about local walks. Note that the place is closed on Wednesdays.

    Couldn't really fault it.

    Fantastic loco, meals and staff

    7SandraPosted on: 8-22-2024

The property was very well situated

The bed duvet on the single bed was too short for my husband. Also for the price would have liked to have our own bathroom. Tray were the cups were had a hair round one of the cups.
