Pros +
- Excellent but room too hot (could not change thermostat). There is no separate bar area and the dining/lounge looks tired. The outdoor area with the stream and dicks was lovely but there is no undercover outdoor seating when it's rain. It's super dog friendly
- Beautiful location, very helpful friendly staff, delicious breakfast included, comfortable bar with fire and excellent dining experience. We will be back!
- Great location near Dartmoore national Park. Our room was fabulous. The restaurant was great. The staff was very accommodating.
Cons -
- No covered outdoor seating. No separate bar area that is not part of a slightly tired dining/lounge area.
- There are a lot of tour groups that go through so the restaurant can get quite noisy at times
- Evening meal and winelist was very good, however the cooked breakfast felt like they were trying too hard to be 'posh'.Would have liked a bathtub, but that would have been a bonus.

Everything was perfect. We chose the location specifically to be in the middle of Dartmoor, but were surprised by the comfort and especially by the quality of food. Can't wait to be back.
This hotel was the first stop on a walking tour of North Dartmoor, and we arrived late and tired. The staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating. Very helpull with great advice on local things to do.Room was excellent.

The location was lovely. The atmosphere was friendly.
The TV was not working. The restaurant was very expensive, and did not have many cheaper options.
The Staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable , nothing was too much trouble. The room was immaculately clean. Breakfast was disappointing as my husband’s scrambled egg was cold as was my poached egg. The buffet could have been better, but, in spite of this it won’t stop us from coming back .
Breakfast
Friendly staff, great location and great food.
Lovely old fashioned charm in beautiful location
Steak meal was over priced for not enough food.
Lovely and spacious and wonderful surroundings, food was exceptional as well, Tom and staff were very accommodating.
Lovely traditional hotel in the heart of Dartmoor - perfectly situated for the Wistman's Wood walk. Friendly staff, good food and a very nice atmosphere.
Very good
Although I had booked afternoon tea, this was not actually offered to us or mentioned on arrival although it was added to the bill (which I then asked to be removed as we had never had it)
The hotel is perfectly situated for walking on Dartmoor. It is comfortable and cosy with sofas and wood fires, but the best thing is the staff who were all very friendy and professional too.
Everything from the staff, the food, the hotel and hotel location where excellent. Even the geese.
Nothing that comes to mind to be honest.
Breakfast was amazing. The haddock and poached egg cooked to perfection.A great choice at the buffet including a selection of freshly baked danish pastries of which I had too many! Lovely pot of coffee which was topped up as needed. The dining room is spacious with plenty of space between the tables to offer privacy.
Everything was lovely for breakfast. We loved seeing the resident geese from the windows!
Lovely history hotel.
Very expensive, dire service for phone signal. Breakfast was cold.
Middle of Dartmoor. Nice location for a walk to Wistmans Wood.Good food & drink and prompt friendly service
Excellent location , comfortable country hotel. Food good but quite expensive.
It’s a well established building set in a lovely quiet dip ( at night ) Grounds are lovely and there’s some superb walks on the doorstep
The hotel is an old coach hotel,so I expected an older style. Paid extra for an upgrade room ,but nothing like the brochure picture. It was pretty clean but hasn't been painted for many years with many marks on the walls and rust on the radiators. This was an expensive hotel.Staff were nice, particularly George, a nice intelligent jungle man.Food and wine etc was expensive and little choice on main menu. We made a mistake on booking. Com.Only put 1 adult instead of 2.So, I agreed to pay an extra £60 for the mistake for this.On leaving the reception, she tried to double this to £120 why I don't know, but after 10 minutes, this was changed this to what was agreed. The beds were old and squeaky. Also, I could hear the bath running next to our headboard for ages and woke up with the bed squeaking and banging in the night next to our wall.I'll let you work that one out.!!!So, not much sleep.Shame that winter months, a lick of paint would be nice ,and photos need to be true to life, not when the first decoration many years before Have stayed before but put off from re visiting.
