Pros +
- Loved the food, the view, the bed but the best part is the owners, Tom and Anne.
- Friendly welcome. Cold crisp pints.Wonderful view over Alfred's Tower
- The property is both old and modern. The original pub is still working - several hundred years old and full of character, whilst the accommodation is modern, full of light and very comfortable.
Cons -
- Doors slamming were a little noisy early in the morning
- For me, it was just too far out of Bruton, although, as the owners provided evening meals it was not such a problem. The plus side of the location was it was lovely to wake up to see the cattle, horses and ducks in the fields. Also, the view from the dining room was great - you could see the folly at Stourhead from the dining room.

excellent breakfast; friendly staff; wonderful views
Lovely spot a few miles outside of Bruton. We had cycled from Bristol 50 miles and were warmly received upon arrival. The view from bedroom was gorgeous. The pub had a roaring fire and food was great . We had lamb shanks and fish . All fantastic

Great hosts, delicious food, beautiful views and perfect hilltop location!
Lovely setting. Rooms clean and very comfortable. Cracking breakfast. Very enjoyable stay.
Breakfast: tasty and sustaining for the rest of the day. Location: rural and peaceful but close enough to town for access and convenience. Comfortable room, able to watch sheep and ducks. Hot shower and good water pressure.
Trying to keep shoes clean when walking to and across car park.
Beautiful views - stars at night just wonderful and frosty fields this morning with a stunning sunrise ..Delicious meal cooked by Anna last night and great chats in the bar with Tom! V comfortable bed so slept well ..
Quite basic bathroom but all v clean and very good shower
Where do you start ?? Spotlessly clean room , great bar with loads of history ..amazing dinner , all home cooked and delicious. All the staff were lovely and welcoming. We will definitely be returning and recommending it to friends and family
Nothing , it’s perfect
Lovely traditional inn with stunning views and a friendly welcome. The room was basic but spotlessly clean with a good shower and electric sockets by the bed - and the food was outstanding. Traditional home-cooked fare prepared to a really high standard.
Nothing! The rooms are a little dated but that's all part of the charm
Friendliness of staff. Lovely snug bar. Accomodating us at last minute for extra bed
The pub is a lovely old building. Nice gammon.
The pub has clearly had a bad extension with soulless rooms. Bed was small and uncomfortable. No pictures on the walls and smallest toiletries. Hollow fibre pillows and towels that could exfoliate the barnacles of a boat. Way too expensive for what was provided.
Exceptional staff, delicious GF food, lovely warm, clean room.
Bit dark on arrival!
Quaint olde worldly pub, with a warm welcome. The food portions were huge and home cooked and delicious!
Bed wasn’t overly comfy
Comfortable experience well catered for and great hosts. Very clean and comfortable bedroom. Comfy bar and lovely food
It was just so nice the bar was very old fashioned and quaint reminded us of the good old days, the rooms and restaurant were modern and fresh. Tom & Anne the landlord and landlady were so friendly nothing was too much trouble they made us feel so welcome. We had the best evening.

A real gem of a find. Friendly hosts, top rate accommodation, a comfortable, clean bed. Warm welcoming room with excellent facilities. The breakfast was amazing with a decent pot of tea. The dining room was warm with fantastic views despite the rain. The staff serving were so friendly and smiling. A great start to your day. I cannot praise this lovely accommodation enough. We use the area alot and we will most definitely be making it our regular stop off.
Very pretty place, easy to find
Next doors septic system, not red lion fault obviously but still very smelly
A really friendly local country pub with good sized clean rooms. Ideal halfway house to Cornwall
