Pros +
- Good: Food. Dinner and breakfast were ample and enjoyable. Super King (2 single beds pushed together) was very comfortable as were the pillows. The location was lovely and the staff were very helpful. All very similar to a Best Western in style and feel. Loads of parking so we had no worries about that.
- Location, the size of our room and the food
- Location is spectacular and only 1 hour away from Cairnryan port where we were going to board ferry to Belfast. The heater in the bedroom worked well.
Cons -
- The 2 rooms we booked were no different to a Best Western and somewhere called the 'Palace' implies better so we were a wee bit disappointed with that. All room 'extras' were the same as all basic hotels or B & B's. No single rooms meant our adult daughter had to pay full whack! I guess even with the photo's you don't know what you will actually get when you arrive......we didn't like the shower over the bath which we ended up with ...we're too old for that set up now.
- The pillows on the bed - really uncomfortable
- The bedroom and bathroom were a bit chilly when we arrived. The windows were ill fitting and draughty. The heated towel rail in the bathroom should have been turned on.

Many items not available when we arrived. Most trays empty of food. No cups and no spoons available had to ask.
We had registered early as we were attend a wedding before 3pm. We were told a night porter would be available when we got back after midnight . However main door open, no staff available although we were there a while. Our room keys were on reception desk along with the firm we had completed for registration with our address and car registration on it. Poor in terms of security and for accessing our rooms. Disappointed at this . Other members of family had 2 rooms and their keys were left at reception too. I raised this with reception staff when leaving but they told me night porter should have been available as he was on duty . Was not available to us.
Breakfast was really good and much improved on my last stay in March, 25.
The gentleman on reception when we arrived was quite rude. He was rude last time I visited also. I know I am not the only one, as I spoke to several guests and they had the same issue with him. I was going to contact the manager Mr Evans about this, as I think the Hotel should be aware. All of the other staff are friendly and helpful.
Standard nothing special
internal doors to bed room area especially the handle/push sides were very dirty/grubby and obviously hadn't had a clean in months. We had to use our elbows to push open doors.
Very clean and staff excellent. Enjoyed our evening meal in the bar.
Some areas looking a bit dated, in particular the furnishings in our bedroom, whilst the chairs in our bedroom were threadbare.
Excellent accommodation and the food in the dining room was superb Wonderful staff - great facilities with golf and swimming pool. Everything was superb.
Outside walks and grounds looked nice. Indoor pool if you had time to use it limited opening times. (no changing facilities so if you want a swim walk thru the bar and eating area in a bath gown) Hoping the people don't mind you interrupting their evening meal
Suppose to open 7am Nope - try 7:30ish - Becuase they weren't organised hey cooked me a hot breakfast but food was luke warm to cold. The room (single) shabby, tv channels didn't work, TV some 20" thing from the past, Chairs in the room stained worn out. Main desk chair fell thru the seat. spare chair (some ancient rocking chair which should be on a scrp heap along with the furniture. Carpet might have been clean difficult to tell so faded and worn
Location, spacious room, food.
Can’t think of anything really.
The grounds - location - golf course - size of the rooms - facilities - if you like golf swimming and walking Despite the comments below the hotel is still good value for money
The hotel is a large imposing building which would have been 5 star at sometime in the past. However because of its size and maintenance required - it is now a 3star plus The main rooms are grand and generally the food was good
This was nothing short of a castle! Was blown away on arrival from the outside of the venue, the inside was regal and impressive and the food and facilities were amazing. Couldn't get over the value for money. Staff all very friendly. Very powerful shower and great spa facilities.
Loud fans in the bathrooms, but appreciate this is to help prevent damp and mould, so can't have it all I guess. Old fashioned hair dryer in the bathroom, which would never have been sufficient, but luckily there is also a travel hair dryer provided.
Staff friendly gave good service but to turn one of the lounge area's in to what looks like a storage room for dining tables was a disappointment.
My stay was good as it's been in the past 3 years except the lack of lounge seating
Location is very good. helpful staff, large rooms with seating area. Breakfast choice is excellent. Access to liesure
Bar area and conservatory didn't give evening vibe
Staff were friendly, location was great, right on woodlands which was fantastic for my dog. Quiet tranquil location,. I thought the food was also good. Place is pet friendly which is a must when intend to travel with my dog
I had the single room which was on the fourth floor and it was more compact than I expected, however it had a large bathroom
Staff were very welcoming. Dining room staff were very attentive and the food was lovely. Very clean and comfortable. Liked leisure facilities.
Decor was a bit tired and didn’t look like it was in the photos. Bit disappointed with the balcony. Leisure facilities were good but again could be doing with an uplift and the condensation on the windows obscured the beautiful views, it could have easily been dried off.
Location and cleanliness. The hotel was very comfortable and the large bedroom was very well equipped .
The “warm welcome” which was promised did not materialise and we were met with indifference.Had to wait too long for service in the restaurant and this happened three times in the one sitting where we had been “ forgotten” One member of staff was apologetic.Despite asking for a very quiet room my wife was woken up by a bin lorry collecting rubbish at 7.30 in the morning. The noise went on for about 15 minutes .
We enjoyed the pool, a large bedroom with easy chairs in it, a spacious bathroom. We had an evening meal in the dining room and the meal was good. Staff helpful and friendly. The bedrooms and beds are very . The grounds are beautiful.
Dogs, but great that they are not allowed in the dining room. The ambience of the dining room is very poor. Breakfast buffet is a pet hate of ours particularly when you have to help yourself to tea and coffee as well, therefore we decided against having breakfast. The furniture in the bedrooms is very dated and the conservatory and dining room could do with a makeover to enhance the dining experience.
Grand property, lovely rural location. Good facilities, comfortable & quite large rooms.
Clearly there are problems in the kitchen and with the waiting staff. They were all very friendly and welcoming but the food ordered for dinner took far too long to come out of the kitchen and then our bill got muddled up with another table. Our final bill then quoted us paying for our meals twice. It all got resolved in a perfectly friendly way, but these sort of elementary mistakes shouldn’t be happening.
staff food and bedromm very good
