- Spotlessly clean, nice decor and lovely old building
- Good breakfast, and good evening meal.
- A superb location - recommended to me by someone who has knowledge of the area. Really excellent accommodation, beautifully decorated and very clean. The food at both dinner and breakfast was excellent - beautifully presented and really good quality. The staff throughout the hotel were all very friendly, welcoming and helpful.I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this hotel to others.
Cons -
- Nothing it was lovely
- In refurbishing the hotel, any character in the original building has been eradicated. No real ale on offer.Generally lacking in atmosphere.
- No vegan starter options, both vegan man course options have butternut squash.

Charming inn with great accommodation, good food/menu and friendly, helpful staff.Had everything we needed. We couldn't fault anything and loved our stay at The Ship Inn!
Very happy with everything and highly recommend The Ship Inn.
Excellent stay for one night. Very good evening meal and breakfast next morning. Staff were very pleasant and accommodating . Would definitely stay again. Room was spotless and quiet.
The best hotel I've stayed in. Room was perfect and so eco friendly, nothing was too much bother, breakfast great and staff were fantastic. It deserves the award it recently won!
Comfortable, warm, good food.Bed very comfortable. Staff lovely and helpful. Easy check in.

Overnight stay at The Ship Inn..we stayed in Room 8 upstairs access to a lovely spacious family room with nice view towards the river everyone had a peaceful night’s sleep in very comfy beds..shower in bath..lovely fluffy towels. Nice menu choice for both evening meal and breakfast..great value for money staff very welcoming and helpful and would definitely recommend as perfect base to visit that surrounding area of Dumfries and Galloway
More than happy with every part of our stay!
It had a lovely local feel, traditional, but modern dining room, very clean, nice touches in room. The staff were exceptional. Sarah and Alina, correspondence excellent. Fabulous welcome at breakfast and excellent breakfast.
Room very small with vaulted roof, husband 6’ 2 so bumped his head on several occasions, would not have stayed longer than one night in that room which is a pity as it was spotless. No fridge, as a frequent traveller…. this is not good! Even a small mini fridge would have been ideal, a real shame.
Beautiful, clean and comfortable hotel
We arrived on a sunshine day. We ordered lunch, which was very tasty. The staff were friendly, accommodating and helpful. We finished our drinks outdoors in the beer garden, by the river Fleet. It was picturesque, idyllic and charming. We enjoyed our time outdoors. Check in went smoothly. We continued to sit outdoors, soaking in the rays and enjoying the wildlife. Dinner was pre-booked. It was suggested that we could book a few starters and a main meal, as we were still satisfied from lunchtime. We chose seafood dishes. They were delicious! Our wine was selected well. The desserts did not disappoint. The staff were fantastic. We chilled in the lounge, before retiring. Breakfast was satisfying. It set us up for our next journey. We visited The Ship Inn at Easter time. After enjoying a late lunch, we said that we hoped to visit the hotel for an overnight stay. The opportunity arose. We are so pleased we did. We hope to visit again.
We were disappointed with the shower. It was an overhead shower, with no hand held shower combo.
Wonderful location. Lovely staff
Very small shower. Only 2 electricity points not next to bed so no way to charge phones
Location was great, beer garden fantastic, but the room was the highlight, spacious, light, with a wonderful bathroom.

The bedrooms / bathrooms were very well presented . The seating area in the bar could be better, but the beer garden by the river was delightful.
The reception desk seemed disorganised, although a member of the waitresses staff was very helpful. I do not like a room only price and prefer a B and B rate.
Very good, and the option of packed lunch instead was excellent
No lift, which could be a problem for some travellers as some rooms are up two flights of stairs
Friendly staff, restaurant open on Monday, sufficient parking, safe parking
Some road noise from main street.
Very central for wedding venueComfy bed and pillowsGood tea/ coffee facilitiesGood breakfastDog friendly- they had left a bag with a ball, biscuit and waste bags - a nice touch
No air conditioning, although I like the flowers outside on window ledge not so keen when the window is open Bottles of water in the room.
I recently sent some of our employees to stay at your hotel as part of a 7-night tour across different locations. They unanimously agreed that The Ship Inn stood out above the rest. They described it as smart, clean, comfortable, and exceptionally welcoming, a truly outstanding place to stay!
Food was good, particularly breakfast.
EV charging point did not work but alternatives were available close by.
