Pros +
- Receptionist was very pleasant and helpful, Breakfast was wonderful and staff very helpful and cheerful. Hotel was very well appointed and decorated.
- We stayed in one of the lodges, it was clean and in very good condition with everything you need.
- The staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was great. We were staying with our small dog and were in Lodge 1 which was perfect for us. We had breadfast in the bar so the dog could be with us. The breakfast was huge and the bacon was fabulous.
Cons -
- An evening meal would have been a nice option.
- The only thing I would say to prospective customers is that there is a fire exit sign in the lodge (which there should be) that of course has a green light, if you are sensitive to light when you are sleeping or trying to sheep you may want to consider bringing an eye mask.

Beautiful surroundings very clean warm and cozy room friendly chef can't comment on breakfast as we skipped breakfast. Had a wonderful sleep. After a 8 hour drive up from England.
Not very welcoming at reception lack of info in room so glad we had a bath as the shower all though new looking was extremely noisy
We really liked this small hotel in Hawick. It's warm and refurbished inside, rooms were great size and both the room and en suite were immaculate. Special shout to Bob, the chef who made an amazing breakfast but was also so friendly and helpful in pointing us towards a great restaurant in nearby Denholm. He made us feel really welcome and had lots of great stories.
Hawick isn't for party animals - the high street is very quiet even at weekends, and a lot of shops only open 10-2, but it's a great location to explore from.
Beautiful House, very clean, great team and breakfasts amazing
Highly recommend. Staff friendly, gorgeous inside real country feeling and cosy. Very clean. Breakfast and lunch was lovely nothing to fancy but hit the spotRun by a lovely family who are very friendly. I would definitely stay here again
Cute hotel, food i cannot review as there doesn't really seem to be much offering regarding an evening meal but the breakfast is fab
No real evening meal service offered and the shower wasn't really up to much
Friendly staff. Quiet location. Breakfast cooked to order so nice and hot. Excellent toast (bread from local bakery).
Some creaky floors , but is is an old property
Fantastic hotel, lovely bedrooms, great breakfast and the hotel owners and staff were fantastic
Nice large room, clean and well appointed. The hotel has lovely big lounges and is surrounded by nice gardens, great for walking the dog in.Nice breakfast and friendly staff.
Staff rumbled up a nice snack for our dinner and we enjoyed a superb breakfast following by an interesting chat with the chef. Our room at the back of the hotel was spacious and gave great access to the carpark. Perfect for our canine travelling companion. It was delightful to enjoy such a splendid hotel and location. Would definately visit again, when visiting the area again.
Loved the hotel ,the breakfast was fab,the room was big the facilities were great.the area was lovely
The only thing that let it down for me was the mattress ,it was rock solid and it made my arthritis worse ,had no sleep otherwise it would have been perfect.
A really exceptional country house renovated to a high standard and in keeping with original fittings and fixtures. The wife was overawed with the room, lounge, and dining room. Breakfast was fine.
Nothing to complain about. Only thing that struck me was should it get busy parking could be limited.
The building/decor and size of room
We were charged for an early check-in just for leaving our bags
Good location for exploring Hawick. Bedroom and shower good although tap water not drinkable and mirror over toilet and not over sink not ideal. (Room 7). Given two bottles of water clearly not enough!! Breakfast okay and good quality products but potato scone overcooked and greasy
Receptionist/manager very unwelcoming. Registration form plonked on desk and told fill that in. No hello or welcome. Presume have to pay more a smile. WiFi also very weak.
Location was good, the shower was excellent. Staff were very good. Lodge was clean and warm. Toiletries were very nice.
The mattress was not comfortable for us. Full length mirror would be handy.
Beautiful decor. Very clean. Excellent breakfast
Room a little small but nice. Manager a bit grumpy
It’s lovely staying in a grand country house. It was nicely decorated and warm. Good shower, comfy bed & pillows. Good bar area. There’s a big enclosed dog walking field (with a bin!). It really was a treat. Lovely cooked breakfast & the hotel manager was really friendly and accommodating. We wished we’d eaten here in the evening. They were very accommodating with our two little dogs & allowed them to be with us at breakfast in a lovely room overlooking the garden.
Our room wasn’t en suite which wasn’t a problem, however the sink was just a little hand wash sink & not a bathroom sink which made it too small for washing. There was no wardrobe, just an open rail- but no hangers. I mentioned it to the manager who said the designer had designed the sink that way & we should have asked for hangers. It wasn’t a deal breaker and we will stay here again— best hotel in Hawick.
Balcary House Hotel is nestled in a wooded area. Very pretty. The owner was welcoming. The room was large and well equipped with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was very good. We'd recommend this hotel
Open restaurants for dinner were difficult to find. We got supermarket food in the end.
