Location.

Given 3* expectation: Breakfast day 2 was good, days 1&3 were poorly presented and served. Room was cavernous but lacking hooks, shelves. Room electrics were odd - main light off, all power off. Fire alarm overnight, no staff responded. Health/Safety?

The staff were friendly and helpful and the bed was clean and comfortable.

The whole hotel is very tired. The carpets are threadbare, the walls all need painting and the hair dryer was so sticky I had to wrap clothes around it to use it. Also the room was very hot and we were unable to open the windows.

Food and staff were excellent.

Bathroom no towel rack and the shower needed a bit of work

I was looking for a quintessential British hotel experience. This was it. Hotel over a pub. Steep stairs. But lots of character. Continental breakfast. Free parking. Comfortable bed but scratchy sheets. The staff was friendly.

A bit shabby. Never had clean towels replaced during my stay. This was NOT their fault... but it was 93! Problem: no air conditioning! They did try to help by putting a tower cooling unit but it did not work! In fact it simply turned the room into into a steam bath. It literally fogged up the windows. When I mentioned it supposedly someone came to look at it but it never put out any cool air at all!

The staff was always very friendly and helpful. Location was nice because it had small shops nearby.

Poor ventilation in the room. During summer months, it's very uncomfortable to spend the night, a fan was provided but it barely blew air, it really didn't cool the room. The only two windows we could open were the bathroom and room but only a little bit of it because they both had locks.

Room had dripping shower, no plug hole for shave !Room hot and had to use loo roll to wedge open window for fresh air.

The room was so outdated. Carpet worn, paint peeling off walls and plug did not fit the bath

Kelly on reception was welcoming. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was ample. Previous reviews seemed to downrate the ensuite bathroom for having no window, but honestly, it's not a problem!

Good location & friendly staff

Dirty laundry left in room. Tired decor. Hairs on bathroom floor. Shower gel dispenser in shower empty.Heating stuck on full with broken thermostat and unable to open window more than a couple of inches meant that room was far too hot to sleep in.

This was without doubt the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in. Dirty and in very poor repair, it was more akin to a doss house.

Whilst the lady on reception was as helpful as she could be, the place is in an abysmal state of repair and cleanliness. It ought to be closed for a complete renovation immediately. Neither I nor my fiancee have ever stayed in somewhere so disgusting. I will be taking this up with Greene King, which used to be a well managed decent company. Clearly not any more. Disgraceful.
