- Comfy bed, lovely staff and a great breakfast for an exceptional price
- Location, breakfast was good.
Cons -
- Room was filthy, table lamp broken and not even a glass or plastic beaker to drink water in the room.
- It’s very tired, my bed was very soft felt like the mattress was broken on one side. The card switch for the lights and power to the room didn’t really work. To be fair this was fixed after I reported to reception. Also the lock on the inside of the door didn’t work. When I asked about I was told it was a Health and safety issue and had been disabled. so the only lock on your door is the card reader outside your room. My wife was with at the time of check out and said if she was a solo female traveler she would feel safe in the hotel. She was told it was company policy. Both myself and my wife travel a lot for work and stay in a lot of hotels and this was one of the worst we’ve stayed in.
- As with a lot of large and old hotels this could do with tlc in some areas, the outside would be improved with a spruce up, and our room although very clean and warm was let down somewhat by the bathroom, it wasn’t bad by any means but the cistern had been replaced with one that wasn’t meant for that space, a small thing but one to consider.

The olde worlde charm and style, it’s a lovely hotel with a comfortable feel. All the staff we met were friendly and efficient, we will certainly return!

11am checkout. Had breakfast then time for a snooze.
The room was very hot but no way of adjusting the temperature.
Excellent choice of cereal or cooked breakfast tea or coffee
Nothing that I could think of
Main food was very good and breakfast was OK,
Would have liked some bottled water in the room for the money paid.
The Jaccuzi bathtub was the main reason we booked and was perfect size
breakfast stopped way too early for a stay away, TV signal was shocking which meant not much to do in the evenings.Bathtub took ages to fill due to the slow flow taps.
breakfast VG
I understand what may have caused this procedure but it is very unusual to pay for a meal at ordering rather than presenting a bill at the end as normal (imo) I have no worries about putting an advance up to pay for meals or drinks. This had the potential for staff customer clashes.John Cook
The location was very convenient for the reasons we were in the area and dog friendly.Room good size.Plenty of parking.Meals offered in bar area.
Dated inside communal areas & exterior of building.Window in room broken, and letting in a lot of drafts.TV remote control not working (reported to reception)Bathroom hand basin too big for room, and unusual design which didn’t match existing fittings.
Friendliness of staff. Lots of parking.
The bed was so bad, spring in my back and I could feel the actual wooden bed slats and receptionist didn’t seem to care when I gave the feedback about it
Location was super good for me
A bit old, the shower installed in the bath tub didn’t work out well tall.
The really helpful and friendly staff.Excellent food and good value for money
Bathroom smelt stale
The location was excellent
The bed was a little soft. The evening menu was limited.
Parking was easy. Room overall ok
Sauna facilities not working. Reason i booked the property. Shower was shooting water out due to head not being tightened. Luckily in building trade so was able to sort myself.
The hotel is very welcoming - well lit and staff were pleasant. The jacuzzi in our bathroom was great and there was a welcome basket of goodies in the room.
Well, firstly, there was a painting that I thought was attached to the wall but wasn’t - it was leant up against the back of the chair I sat down on and fell on me. It was a heavy frame which gave me a shock and a bump on the head. The room was nice but it needing updating. The toiletries were a tiny bar of soap, some shower gel in a broken dispenser and a couple of toothbrushes. The duvet cover was super king size but the duvet inside was a double that barely covered the top of the bed and was all at one side of the cover so we had to spend some time getting to lay in the centre. The meal in the restaurant was odd - some well cooked elements but then the Camembert came with one slice of white sliced toast and the bowl of olives that cost £4 were pitted black olives that had been stored in brine and were chopped into tiny pieces. It’s like they focused their attention on getting some things in the hotel done well and then cut corners with the rest.We paid £176 for a one night stay and I’d say that wasn’t great value for money given the cost cutting it was clear they did.
Staff were nice and helpful
Old, tired, peeling wall paper, beds were old hard spring mattresses very uncomfortable. Breakfast was very poor one small sausage, and 1 rasher of bacon.
Location good for Appledore and Instow.
Very tired, don’t mind a bit of Faulty Towers, but the bed springs are in your back and Television not working all fittings are very old. Draughty entrance and a very tired Bar. Not great and not somewhere we would go back to.
For the price it’s was poor the room basically has a bed the bathroom was dirty very undated! No fridge! Very poor..
It all I even left to go to a air bnb
Old world charm⁹7
Could not get spa bath to work, water too hot, could notget cold water. TV had no signal. Restarant service slow. Bathroom in neen of refurb, shabby with hole in ceiling ond very dirty extracter fan.
