Pros +
- Staff and food amazing
- Exceptionally clean, toiletries provided, bed super comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful
- 5 star helpful friendly staff, couldn't be more accommodating. Food presentation and taste was excellent. Appearance of hotel is of a faded grandeur but very atmospheric. Ambience was calm and serene, a lovely stay to unwind and enjoy the moment.
Cons -
- Hotel a little tired in places, carpets etc
- Breakfast starts quite late which isn’t ideal if you are a business traveller - however the reception staff did arrange for coffee and pastries which was brilliant of them.
- Drab. Needs substantial investment to improve. Bathroom door would not close. Plumbing is ancient. Hotel needs total refurbishment.

The staff were incredible couldn’t have been more helpful
The heat! It was boiling and I asked for a fan because it was so roasting.
The hotel was warm, clean, comfortable and friendly. Owing to my illness I suffer occasionally with walking (especially up hills and stairs, but not so much down!) and I was fortunate enough to have a parking bay close to reception, which was wonderful. The staff were all very helpful, friendly and polite. The food was excellent, we had cod bites with tartare in the bar and in the restaurant the celeriac amuse bouche was delivious. My seabass was perfect as was my husband's pork loin, we will definitely stay again.Unfortunately we were running late so didn't have breakfast....next time .
There wasn't anything not to like.
Great location, comfy beds and big rooms overlooking the garden and the sea in a lovely historical building.
Breakfast was nice but service slow.
Great location , friendly staff. Room 2 needs updating
Old carpets , windows need cleaning
Very nice hotel with a beautiful garden and friendly staff
There was no diner table available. A hotel of that level should imperatively keep tables reserved for the hotel guests! Disapointing…
The hotel is very nice and the rates were good value. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the quality of provision overall was excellent. The location is excellent, everyone was very kind to my travelling companion who is physically frail - even to the extent of arranging a parking spot in the grounds of the hotel rather than at one of the two other parking areas.
There was nothing I "didn't like", though the plumbing in my room seemed a little under-powered: the shower was not powerful and the cold water tap did not provide water that could be described as "cold" - tepid at best.
All the food was very good. Well presented and clearly prepared by a good chef and his team.
The hotel was a little tired in many aspects and would need a serious make over in the not too distant future.
Breakfast was good although I had advised in advance that I was gluten intolerant and they had no suitable cereal. Some was obtained but not in evidence until we asked each morning. The location and grounds were very impressive.
See above. The hotel had an old fashioned air and some of the plumbing just functioned.
A beautiful historic hotel, with great staff, lovely front of house and gardens. Cocktails by the pool is a must. Breakfast was great with good selection.
The room and en-suite was a bit dated/tired. We booked the Classic room which was the most basic, but for the price a few small extras would be nice (robes, mini fridge for milk, safe) The bedside lighting was chandelier design, and very bright - some simple mods would have made this so much better, but everything else was lovely.
Beautiful hotel in a really lovely location on the Isle of Wight .
Our bedroom location was at the end of the building and on the ground floor and people were walking past a lot , but for the opaque glass could see in our room and bathroom .
The breakfast was excellent, friendly staff. A nice hotel in a beautiful, scenic location. Very nice views from the hotel. The room was comfortable. Good VFM for what I paid.
The hotel carpet and rooms need to be renovated. While I understand the hotel is designed to have a "traditional" vibe, there are some aspects that are just worn out and need to be replaced. It would also be nice if there was a safe in the room.
The breakfast was excellent! The evening meal even better!! Staff friendly and efficient. Would highly recommend!
Evening meal was alright, but breakfast very disappointing.
On arrival we were advised that we had an upgraded room but we had specifically chosen he type of room we wanted. The replacement was much more dated and somewhat drab.
The Hotels appearance was excellent & the staff were very professional & friendly. The Breakfast & Sunday Lunch were excellent.
The room was a little tired & didn’t meet our expectations. The room facilities didn’t match the hotels overall star rating & the bathroom condition was poor.
Beautiful gardens
The land slip causing the road to close meaning a longer walk up and down to the town ( not the hotels fault)
