Smiths At Gretna Green Hotel

Very clean, and room was cosy. Staff were friendly especially whilst we were attending our daughters wedding

Our room was at the back so road noice was a bit noisy

Easy access to all locations required

Duvet was thin for time of year. The iron did not do much for the shirts. Breakfast could have been hotter but still tasted great.

The food was very poor, staff except reception seemed very uninterested and looked rather untidy, no uniform..all own clothes, no aprons waiting on..

Heating was broken when it was -5°C outside. Staff weren't surprised when we reported it, fairly sure they already knew! Travelling with toddler. Very kind night watchman found us a portable heater at 11pm, first he'd heard of the issue. Other staff that were aware of the problem hours earlier had just gone home despite telling us they would get back to us with a solution. Ultimately had a single heater for an entire 2 bed cottage so 2/3 of it was uninhabitable. Receptionists at checkout the next day couldn't give a toss. Made me feel like a complete idiot for even mentioning it (in response to their question "Was everything alright with your room?"!). Emailed the following day to ask about a resolution, was told to expect a response from management in 7-10 days. A month later, still nothing. Really is such a shame, we've stayed here before and had a fantastic time. Just make sure you don't have any issues during your stay...

Felt the dinner menu was limited. Have stayed at the hotel for several years and always felt there was a good varied menu however this has changed recentlyStaff at breakfast service could be improved

The cottages were lovely great for families. Plenty of room beds comfy. Great location.

We gave an arrive time but no heating was on when arrived the cottage were freezing cold took a while to heat up. The hotel itself, reception staff were great at check in. The staff in the restaurant and bar were average we waited a hour and half to be asked if we wanted desserts 45 minutes after finishing our main course. The meal was lovely just not big enough portions. The hotel has gone down in standards and the restaurant and bar areas need a good clean and paint. It’s so sad to see that the place where we got married 15 years ago go to ruins. Needs some much needed TLC.

Was lovely just wish they had a extended day room as we were a wedding party group and wedding was late afternoon and we had to be out rooms by 11 am …

The room was musty, poor lighting, stained carpets and very out dated

The location was convenient and it seemed clean

Staff all seemed pretty new, they werent well trained, didnt seem to know a lot or how to help with any queries. Some staff were just unhelpful. I was charged a different rate stated on an email i received to keep a room for an extra hour. Breakfast was poor for dietary requirements. Room was extremely noisy and cold, we stayed in a cottage and could hear what sounded like a washing machine all night, the heatinf was extremely noisy but also wouldnt stay on. The bathroom floor was soo slippy myself and my son fell over! All in all very dissapointing.

FREEZING COLD in room. Radiator cold. Had to have wall heater on all night

Breakfast was nice buffet was not run as well as you would have expected ;the chef was not in control of the situation.

If the kitchen staff were on top of it the waiting staff would not be filling the buffet and would be able to carry out their own tasks.

Lovely staff, fantastic breakfast and a beautiful spacious room.

Our room was so big, it felt a little cold but they had us extra heaters.

Once our rooms were sorted out they were quite pleasant.

The hotel had made a mistake with our booking and tried to rectify this, we had to wait an hour for our room as housekeeping had not cleaned it and then to our disappointment they put my family in one of the most disgusting room that I have ever been asked to stay in, after complaining they did move us into a newly renovated room.

Our cottage which was number 1, was huge, fresh and everything we needed for a family of 5 for a nye night away. Would love to stay in this cottage again.
