    Pros +

    • The dining area was very charming. Enjoyed our meals there.
    • Very friendly staff! There was a large party there at the same time as our dinner reservations and the staff did a great job managing all the tables. We never felt unnoticed or like we had to wait because of the large party. That’s hard to do and they deserve props! The food was fantastic, I had the pork belly, which was very good, so flavorful! My husband had the venison which was fantastic, super soft and so delicious. For dessert we had the lemon tart and panna cotta, both equally delicious! Our room was very clean, big and cozy, a nice mix of the old charm and modern amenities. Bed was pretty comfortable and bedding was very nice. Overall had a great stay and would highly recommend.
    • Great old Scottish home now a hotel! Wonderful staff and amazing food. We’ll visit again!

    Cons -

    • Whilst I understand the place is pet friendly, and I don't really have anything against pets/dogs, I would have preferred not to be having my meals with them.
    • Room was a little warm for us, a fan would have helped or a screen on the door so you could crack the door would be nice.
    • We we're in an out building, not the hotel itself, which wasn't expected, but not a problem (standard double room).

Incredible everything: location, room, dining, the en suite bath was to die for *awesome*. The set evening meal was spectacular and the service was top notch. The bed was super plush. Only minus: not all of the ceiling lights worked, but that was so minor.

Beautiful view from our room. Very friendly staff, nice room and bathroom.

We we're in an out building, not the hotel itself, which wasn't expected, but not a problem (standard double room).

    Good breakfast

Needs some TLC - more dated and in need of repairs than photos suggest. Showers head in room broken

I stayed in the Miller’s Cottage which was beautifully clean and cosy. It was in a beautiful location with easy access to the town and the rest of the property. The stream outside was so lovely to listen to as I went to sleep. I loved my stay!

If I have been disappointed with a property I usually don’t bother with a reference as I see no point in negativity for something which is a personal observation. However Forss House is just not what it purports to be. We were meant to stay in the main hotel; we were put in a rather tired cottage with steps both down and up which were dangerous, particularly to someone with two new knees under a year old. Door frames no good for someone of 6’6”. It was more like a challenging air bnb. In fact if we hadn’t booked for dinner we would not have experienced the hotel until we paid the bill. Our welcome was not that. The place is staffed with pleasant but inexperienced youngsters who have no idea about guest service. We were pointed in the general direction of our lodgings and because the sign is pointed away from you when driving in we spent a while looking for it until helped by a pleasant room attendant. No help offered with luggage, no explanation as to why we were not in the room booked.Dinner was a mistake, particularly after a super meal in Scrabster the night before. The dining room is claustrophobic, no ambiance and bumping of chairs because of close proximity. The whole place is pretentious, dated, definitely over priced and a parody of what it thinks it is

The property, the attention to guests, the arrogance of pretending to be something it is not.

It was a lovely house … the bedrooms were great lots of hot water … the food was excellent

The staff although friendly , were lacking in the right attitude … not enough of, them very makeshift…the lighting was poor, overhead lighting , no side lights… and the fires were not lit

Pleasant Scottish Manor House, with nice and quirky details such as all the clocks along the staircase.

Comfortable bed, large room, great shower and bath.

Beautiful house and gardens and wonderful staff. We booked late and the restaurant was full but they made sure we still had sandwiches and soup in our room on arrival. Breakfast was fabulous and the decor is amazing.
