Pros +
- From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome—warm, friendly, and genuinely attentive as they personally showed us to our room. Everything about this hotel is spotless and impeccably presented: spotlessly clean, beautifully tidy, and everything feels fresh, modern, and lovingly maintained. Our room was an absolute delight—cosy, wonderfully warm, supremely comfortable, and so pristinely clean it was a joy to return at the end of the day. The bed was heavenly and delivered the best night’s sleep we’ve had in ages. The fantastic inclusions of free parking and a delicious breakfast were real highlights—the breakfast spread was outstanding, fresh, varied, and absolutely delicious, the fresh coffee was a personal highlight too.Best of all, the location is perfect: under 5 minutes’ walk from the vibrant town centre, with an abundance of great bars, restaurants, and attractions right on your doorstep. This hotel exceeded every expectation, and we’ve already decided—we’ll be returning here time and time again. There’s simply no need to look anywhere else!

- The hotel is in a good location as very close to town centre. Free parking for residents is a bonus
Cons -
- Nothing to be honest.
- The room was up a very difficult flight of stairs.
- Pleased to have on site parking but not for the faint hearted when the hotel was full

The room was up a very difficult flight of stairs.
Very welcoming in an excellent location for our few days in Bury St Edmunds
Pleased to have on site parking but not for the faint hearted when the hotel was full
A small quiet hotel near the cathedral and town centre in Bury St Edmunds. It has the benefit of convenience for the main road network (A14), the town centre (5 minutes walk) and on-site parking. The room was very clean and spacious. As it is a small hotel there is just a small lounge and bar area but very comfortable. Breakfast was served in a bright spacious room. Plenty of choice ranging from the "full-English" through to vegetarian options. Very friendly proprietor who let us check in despite our early arrival. Overall it couldn't be faulted.
We had no complaints. This was our second visit. This time our room was on the first floor. Previously we had a room on the second floor that is accessed by fairly steep stairs. This is not an issue for us but maybe for less mobile individuals they should request a first floor room, although I recall the owner was perfectly happy to help with our bags.
parking,the room and breakfast
The room was just right for what we needed, the breakfast was brilliant, the location was excellent - we could walk everywhere, and they had a private car park!
the stairs to the second floor... we appreciate it is an old house - perhaps better bannisters or grip on the steps please?
In a good location. Great to have parking on site. Room was nice. Bed comfortable. Breakfast was very good.
Although we were aware room was on top floor, the stairs to that floor were very narrow and twisting. We would have preferred a walk in shower rather than an over bath shower.
Excellent location within easy walking distance of the town centre. The room was lovely and historic with the added bonus of a small sofa which was a welcomed addition and the bed and pillows were wonderfully comfortable. Great choice of breakfast
It was all good
The room was comfortable and included a small sitting room, also comfortable. The shower was excellent, as were the breakfasts and the waiting staff. Good location close to the town centre.
The bedroom was on the ground floor immediately next to a busy road (which we accept is something the management cannot do a lot about), and similarly the sitting room was right next to the hotel car park. The mattress was too soft for our preference. The curtains were thin and let in the light/car lights, and although there is a blind it didn’t help a lot. A proper blackout blind would help.
Breakfast was excellent. All staff are welcoming and friendly
Bed was too short. I’m 6ft 4
Charming building and very nice staff. I arrived late and left early so couldn't appreciate the facilities fully sadly.
The only criticism is that access to the top floors is a bit bothersome - with no lift and narrow staircase - this saying the host proposed to take my bag upstairs - but something to take into account if you think of a heavy suitcase
room was quiet as requested. Unusually good wardrobe space. Useful, adequate, sofa. Clean, bright, functional and generally comfortable. Cooked breakfast was good.
Room was not very warm and radiators even full on provided inadequate heat to warm the room properly. The mattress was too hard -- hurt my shoulder when sleeping on my side. The toilet brush fell apart in the loo -- awkward and messy. Room lighting was a bit glaring when on -- nothing in between that and quite dim. No flannels in the bathroom. Small selection of breakfast juices. All small issues but collectively disappointing.
Very clean and tidy, friendly, helpful staff and decent breakfast
Heating in room and hard bed
Full English breakfast was goodRoom was nice, very large bathroom. Bed was very comfy.
Baked beans with breakfast
Closeness to the centre of Bury clean comfortable.
Nothing to dislike
Very good breakfast. Friendly staff and good location
Very good location for seeing Bury St Edmunds
A little disappointed that the small reception/bar was un attended.I felt that the room was overpriced for the overall standard..
An excellent breakfast, freshly cooked to perfection. Excellent service.
If anything, the rooms were a little too warm but easily solved by turning the radiators down.
How close to town it was food good staff ok
Bed was very soft and pillows unable to sleep threw the night
