    Pros +

    • The hotel was very charming and welcoming. The staff went above their duties to ensure we felt comfortable. We had a late arrival due to our flight into the uk and the hotel staff were so kind and utterly amazing in their efforts to help us.
    • The location was great for us because it was relatively close to the train station, and our friends own a cafe one minute from the hotel. The bar itself has good food and drinks.
    • Everything was amazing. The location, the staff and the bar everything was perfect. We stayed this hotel because of wedding, they have everything you need in the room. Hairdryer, iron and the table. It was perfect. Thank you for everything.

    Cons -

    • Unfortunately, their breakfast was only on from 7-9 on weekdays and 7-9:30 am on weekends. Those were the earliest times of any of the hotels we had stayed at on our whole European trip of 4 different countries and time spent at 25 plus hotels!!) Even, 10 am would have been doable for us...This place is very OLD! The carpet on the stairs is really dirty, and the bathroom had black mold on the ceiling. The smell was so repulsive that I had to hold my breath to use the washroom, and I ended up getting really sick. I have asthma, and I lasted one day before I came down with a terrible chest cold (I think it was from the black mold!)
    • I wrestled a heavy suitcase up a narrow winding staircase and the bed could have been more comfortable.
    • Took a minute to find lamp cord switches behind desk/nightstands.

Staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good, with a range of cooked options. The location is very central. My room was large by English standards.

I wrestled a heavy suitcase up a narrow winding staircase and the bed could have been more comfortable.

Large room and shower. Fan available in closet for summer comfort. Located right near train station and easy walking to the rest of town. Food looked good with reasonable prices.

Took a minute to find lamp cord switches behind desk/nightstands.

    Really friendly, comfortable room

Very friendly staff, great food, comfortable room in an old building

Nothing much, the building is old and a bit shabby, but perfectly comfortable

Location and interior of the pub

Stayed here twice now but would again but please GK spend some of your profits on refurbishing all the rooms. They are beyond tired now

Pleasant friendly staff. Good location. Good breakfast

Room smelt like cooking and damp. Mould on bathroom ceiling and shower tray. Uncomfortable bed. No mirror near plug socket for hair dryer.

    Location , shower room ,

Television not working , told staff on arrival 1530 hrs , nothing done, reported again around 1830 hrs then we went out for the evening, came back at 2200 hrs still nothing done , the night staff eventually moved us to another room at 2230 hrs after my vociferous complaint , NOT my first occasion to complain about GREENE KING either!! - I have noted this for the future .

The location was perfect, the room was a great size and the bed was incredibly comfortable! The staff were incredibly friendly upon our arrival, it was a great place to stay

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Excellent location for easy access to town centre. Good breakfast.

The public areas of the pub appear to be in good order. However, the accommodation, whilst clean, needs painting and decorating etc and a general upgrade.

    5SandraPosted on: 4-12-2025

    Breakfast was very good

Size of double room was very small, dirty marks all over walls .

Have stayed here before to attend a concert at the Apex theatre in Bury St Edmunds. It makes a great base with free parking and the Apex is 5 mins walk away. Our room was clean and tidy although it would benefit from a fresh coat of paint and I think the mattress is getting towards the end of its life. Evening meal and breakfast were first class
