Pros +
- Location on seafront and near town centre
- The location of the Hotel is excellent; the staff were super. The breakfast was really good, freshly prepared products and catering for caeliac was excellent. The cleanliness of the hotel and our room was very good indeed. The decor looks tired however the refurbishment work is making a difference.
- Location was central to the town and beach
Cons -
- Very bad state of hotel and staffUnwrlcoming, unclean, bad odour throughout, tired room and bathroom, lack of concern from staff member who also was not versed in any kind of normal hospitality, was covered in dandruff, maybe a personal problem but does not suit the role, told us there was no alternative room to view as the one we were given was disgusting, simply couldn't be bothered.
- Whilst spotlessly clean the bed mattress was somewhat uncomfortable (think it was well worn). The hand basin in the bathroom had a crack in it as did the toilet seat.
- Isn't really a dislike, but there wasn't a children's dinner menu

Isn't really a dislike, but there wasn't a children's dinner menu
The staff were all amazing especially Rosie and Sara in the restaurant and the lady on reception whose name I didn’t get Everyone was so friendly and helpful to me and my little grandson It was a pleasure to stay Thankyou
An excellent hotel in all respects. The beds were very comfortable and the bedroom with sea view was fine. The breakfast had everything one could want and the bar was a good place in which to relax. We did not eat in the dining room but Rock Fish and the Beach pub (both nearby) we would recommend. The latter was good value.
Young staff would benefit from a charm course but they functioned well. The scrambled egg without yolk was a first and best avoided.
The location is excellent,we stayed in the Superior Double Room with Sea View, the view was lovely , gazing over on the green lawn and stunning sea views, hearing the sea waves and surprisingly not much traffic noise . The staff were very friendly and polite, the room was very clean ,spacious and warm , the bed was very comfortable We had the all you could eat buffet breakfast for the 2 night stay was very tasty, hot , freshly cooked ranging from a cooked English breakfast to options of cereal, croissants, toast ,yogurt , teas , coffee , fruit juices etc .. we filled our boots up and wasn’t hungry till Dinner time . Particularly enjoyed not driving for the 2 days , walked from one end of the beach and looped around back to Exmouth Marina and then back to the hotel ( about 9 miles in all ) We had a relaxing stay and will be back !!Thank you for all the team in The Imperial Exmouth for making it a great couple of days ☺️
The Hotel inside and outside is a bit dated and could do with a lick of paint , but that doesn’t detract from the stay . Has a very charming feel to it .We had to pay £6 a night for parking ( £12 in total) would have been nice if it was free parking.
Location, good breakfast choice.
Too few staff. Limited evening meal choice. Unable to order drinks at dinner table. Rooms a bit tired.
Good location, clean and warm room.
Paid for a superior double with a seaview, felt like a standard double with a seaview in our opinion.
Close to the beach, the town and the railway station
Nothing that I can think of
Very good
From the moment we stepped inside the door the staff were very welcoming, parts of hotel a little tiered looking but it was clean just needs to be updated but we had a very pleasant stay we had evening meal which was very nicely cooked and waitresses very attentive
Location
Tired and run down but apparently has been sold and undergoing complete refurbishment end of year into 2027
Very central to the town and right on the seafront, clean and very helpful and approachable staff Would return to this hotel again.
It looks a bit tired on the outside, so doesn’t reflect the inside.
Always lovely staff, nice and clean
Noisy,door slamming!
Beautiful clean warm hotel.Room was spotlessly clean, and came with a balcony which was great..Breakfast had a great choice hotel or cold was available..Its was perfect being on the sea front an a level so great for walking if you have mobility issues like myself..Very pet friendly and great for long walks..
Location
Bed not not very comfortable, no locks on door for privacy like others.
We books the stay for our in laws and they said the room was comfy
We were charged hundreds of pounds two weeks later unexpectedly. After investigating staff realised our credit card had been added to another person's booking by accident (the person who checked in behind us). Whildt we did eventually get refunded it was very concerning from a data protection perspective and lucky we noticed quickly. Will never book this property again.
Have stayed at this hotel previously, great location, warm welcome and good food ..Bedrooms were clean and comfortable and served the purpose ..Coffee machine in room was a bonus ..The hotel is a little tired but we didn’t pay for a five star hotel …Grand old building that is in need of constant investment but we were very satisfied with our stay
Cracked basin in the ensuite
It’s location is perfect for the theatre and nearby restaurants
It was lovely and clean. The dining area was very nice and I like the style of an old-fashioned hotel
Gardens for dog to run, views, close to town.
The cost for a dog to stay. Recently doubled in price from £10 to £20/night for what? Nothing! I can appreciate a one-off charge to clean rooms more thoroughly (which I don’t think they do anyway) but a nightly charge when they only service the room on leaving is extortionate! With the parking this adds £26/night to the cost of staying. Bar staff are often multitasking on restaurant duty so absent from the bar causing long waits.
Great staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice. Evening meals very nice and good value for money. Lovely warm and comfy room.
They could maybe offer a few more choices on the set menu in the evenings but that is a minor gripe.
