    • The room is very spacious, warm and the bathroom is large.
    • Nearly everything, staff was brilliant, nice rooms and good value for money
    • we were in the restaurant having our main course, which we finished at 8:45pm, I asked for the desert menu and was told that the kitchen was closed and I couldn't have a desert, the website states that the kitchen closes at 9pm.I have never been for a meal and not been able to have a desert after my main course especially on valentines day.absolute shocking service

    Cons -

    • The staff is very friendly and helpful and the environment is quite.
    • Not as clean as you would expect like…. Cobwebs in corners, dusty areas but not as bad as this sounds as still lovely room
    • the waiter, could have been more happy

We have stayed at this hotel several times in the past and have always appreciated the quiet, natural surroundings and the comfortable rooms. The receptionist at check in was also exceptionally kind and welcoming, which we truly appreciated.

Sadly, this stay was a major disappointment due to a shocking lack of hygiene. The toilet in our room was in a disgusting state, it had clearly not been cleaned or even flushed from the previous guest, with visible excrement left behind. It was unsanitary and completely unacceptable. Since we arrived late, we didn't report it at the time, but finding a room in such a condition is a huge letdown for a place we previously enjoyed

Very large, comfortable bed; enormous room . Easy parking . Close to Portsmouth for evening ferry arrival .

Although the bathroom was large and very well equipped, there was a detectable odour from the WC . As the WC itself was very clean, we assume that the smell was caused by the sewers struggling to cope with the endless heavy winter rains in 2025/26 .

    Bedroom was spacious

Was not advertised that the pool and spa was under refurbishment, dirty bedroom, had to pay for water for our room as there was no drinking water. On check out no staff present for an extended period of time. Shower pressure was extremely poor and the bathroom was dirty.

    Location

Poor facilities, well overdue a refurbishment. Awful mattress. Broken furniture. Broken shower.

Lovely spacious and very clean bedroom Breakfast lovely, fresh and hot ! Friendly staff

A little tired from outside but welcoming atmosphere and decor inside

    7ElizabethPosted on: 2-8-2026

In a forest. Long corridors. Felt very different to other hotels. I liked the vibe. Large room.

Pool was closed. Shower water was luke warm. A half pint was £4. The plumbing was noisy. Woken by it.

Staff and food were good. It is under new ownership but they need to invest quickly

Rooms only serviced every second day. In desperate need of refurbishment

    9DerekPosted on: 2-6-2026

The hotel was ideally situated in a quiet location near Winchester which met our needs perfectly and our room was clean, warm and cosy. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent.

    The wet weather!

    7StaceyPosted on: 2-5-2026

Beds were comfy and rooms nice and clean

Disappointed with price of breakfast. There should have been a separate price for toast/cereal option

    4NataliePosted on: 2-4-2026

The room was dirty, the bathroom looked as if it hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests, there were marks all on the wood side bored around the sink, a previous guests shower gel & shampoo left in the shower. The frame which had the fire exit route in the glass was cracked.

Stayed twice now for work. Great location when travelling to the south coast with a comfortable bed and great Wi-Fi

The breakfast is a bit poor or it was when I stayed

Pleasant location in among the trees of a forest.Breakfast was very good .

The room was very tired .The carpet needed to be cleaned ( shampooed).Walls dirty where the furniture had been moved , fixings in the walls where pictures used to be.There was only 4 coat hangers spread out over 2 wardrobes and an area for coats !The dressing table had been poorly repaired with 2 large screw heads poking out of the top .The bathroom was again in need of a refurb with the worktop heavily stained and the 2 soap fittings were sitting at a 45 degree angle .The rooms could do with a fridge. There was not a lot of choice on the menu, and we were kept waiting 45 mins for our order even though there were only 3 other people in the restaurant.I will say , the bedding was clean and the room hoovered and dusted.

    The zoo theme feeling

The swimming pool was very cold and the breakfast wasn’t topped up enough

    6HarrietPosted on: 1-29-2026

Breakfast was great and the staff were lovely. Unfortunately the first room we were given had a light fixture hanging out of the wall but the receptionist quickly rectified this and gave us a different room.

Shame the pool was closed for refurbishment and this wasn’t mentioned until arrival as this was a main factor in booking here

Taking into account the very reasonable cost of staying there, it can be classed as excellent accommodation and facilities, perfect breakfast choices and friendly staff who were all helpful. Relaxing ambience, pleasant bar and restaurant. Couldn't ask for more at the price we paid.

We had no cause for complaint. I have seen other reviews, but maybe some people expect very modern accommodation for a reasonable price. For us, it was more than adequate, clean and comfortable.
