Pros +
- Perfect location, walking distance to the train and to the center of town
- Great location and breakfast. Room was comfy, updated and spacious
- Cool location above a centrally located pub, walking distance to all the sights and the train station. Fantastic included breakfast in the ground floor pub. Nice room. Cozy cot.
Cons -
- No aircon, and the stairs are pretty brutal with luggage - steep and narrow. Pack lightly and this is a lovely option!
- The stairs are a bit narrow when carrying up our bag but manageable
- The staff were civil and polite but not friendly. If we asked questions they answered but didn’t speak otherwise. We know it was a busy weekend for them but we didn’t feel welcome and that did mar the stay slightly.

The location was perfect. The room was lovely. Clean but still dusty, but that’s due to the age of the property, dust accumulates so much more quickly in an old property.

Great location. Good breakfast. Staff were friendly.
Narrow Stairs..we had no problem going up the stairs but it was a little difficult with our small luggage.
Best place for a comfortable sleep after Boomtown! Clean rooms , very warm welcome & great location. Love the fans on the wall as well, perfect for hot days.
Wish we could have opened the windows/ doors for more air.
I loved everything about my stay at the Westgate starting from when I walked into the pub where I was greeted by a really friendly lad who helped me get my bags up to my room (on the top floor). My room was delightful with its navy blue walls, cute victorian fireplace, super comfortable bed, view, and little treacle treats in a very pretty glass container (I need to get the recipe). I would definitely stay here again!
room was great - very comfy and stylish for a pub with rooms - staff friendly and helpful
although breakfast was included and a great choice of items, the eggs benedict we chose was very bland - the bread, egg and sauce didn't really have any flavour which was a shame.
Great location and the breakfast was delightful. They had the best pillows of our entire trip.
Breakfast was good. The room was comfortable.Friendly & helpful staff. The location of the hotel was very central & convenient.
As the hotel is located next to a busy traffic roundabout, it was noisy, from quite early in the morning. The shower had minimal water pressure, which made it difficult to have a good shower & the shower tap did not turn off properly, which caused it to drip. There was no air conditioner & only a very noisy fan, which made a small difference to the heat & had to be switched off at night, due to the level of noise it created.
The staff was wonderful. It's an easy walk from Paddington Station, even with luggage.
Nothing. We were delighted that it had an elevator!
Charming, quaint, well located, especially for train, nice staff, good value, good breakfast,
Too warm, no a/c and duvet on bed was lovely thick and fluffy but way too warm. No counter space in bathroom. Hike up the narrow steep stairs to our room was manageable for us but would be tough for many, especially with any kind of luggage.
The bedroom and bathroom were both sizable, well laid out with quality linen and well stocked toiletries. WiFi was good. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good.
The bed itself was too soft/ uncomfortable and there was a very noisy fan. The biggest negative though, for me, was climbing the very narrow, steep stairs to the second floor. Difficult for anyone with mobility issues
This unique hotel was very close to the railroad station which was handy. It was close to everything else we wantedd to see as well. The breakfast was wonderful. The room was clean and comfortable.
There were a lot of stairs to climb. If stairs are hard for you try to get a room on a lower floor.
Location, friendly, food great.
Bathroom needed maintenance.
Comfy bed and clean well decorated room
Breakfast was either cold or under cooked. Very disappointed, worst I have had.Bar didn't take cash
Very friendly & warm welcome. Room was very clean & bed extremely comfy. Tea & coffee making facilities were available in the room.
Location is great, only a few minutes walk from the train station, room was comfortable and clean, breakfast was very good, and the staff were all very helpful, will definitely be returning
The only downside was at breakfast the cleaner was at the bar on her phone with the speaker on talking to the other cleaner about what jobs they had to do, and because it was on speaker the other cleaner was swearing...really not the thing you want to see or hear at breakfast hopefully the can knock that on the head
The staff were amazing. Thank you Lily.
Not being able to open the windows enough and being on the top floor with heavy suitcases.
Location is perfect for walking around Winchester. Very close to the Westgate. Staff friendly.Room had a great view. Bed was comfy. We ate dinner in the pub which was tasty.Breakfast was good too.
The stairs are steep but that comes with a very old building.
