    Pros +

    • The locality to all places of interest
    • The garden off the bar sensational
    • Clean and comfortable rooms in the city center. Close to the train station and walking distance to good bars, restaurant

    Cons -

    • Only one very small thing was at breakfast, we went at 9am and no fried or scrambled eggs and hardly any beans. Checks should be carried out more frequently.
    • There were 5 old mattresses in the car park covered in mould and had obviously been there some while which badly reflected on our first impressions just couldn't believe it come on guys you're better than this !!!
    • Sound proofing of room could be better. But it's just one of those inevitable things for older buildings I suppose.

Comfortable and clean. Great selections for breakfast. Nice garden.

Sound proofing of room could be better. But it's just one of those inevitable things for older buildings I suppose.

The breakfast was wonderful and a highlight for us on our short stay. The staff were all very friendly and professional and the grounds were beautiful. The cookies in the room were a hit with the kids!

The carpets in our rooms were worn, though they were clean they could use replacing. It would help to leave windows open on warmer days, my husband didn’t realize they could be opened and their room was warm all night where one of ours was open on arrival so I figured out how to open the other. A TV channel guide would be helpful, we struggled to find children’s programming on the TV.

Location, room was comfortable and clean

parking was a nightmare. Staff were not overly friendly.

The lounge and bar were SO comfortable, a delightful place the hang out, drink tea, and play games. The staff were all delightful, especially Dino and the reception folks. The black out curtains in the room are wonderful.

The plug for the kettle in the our room was installed in such a way that it was not possible to plug it in and have the plug stay connected (room 145). Turning on the towel rack was new to us. The rack would benefit from a labeled switch (it took us two days to figure out how to turn it on).

    Lovely main building, breakfast, location

The hotel is right in the centre of the city. Winchester has good shops, a cathedral and museums. There are excellent pubs and restaurants.

The parking could have been better at the hotel.

We stayed overnight following a family birthday event. The staff and food were great, although the table was only set for 10 people as no places had been set for the 3 children, however this was quickly rectified.

Upon checking into our room it smelled "dank" and there was a constant "gurgling" of water from the plugholes. Clearly we should have reported this at the time.Upon getting up Monday morning we discovered the toilet bowl to be full to overflowing with foul waste. Foul water and sewage (yes!; sewage!) had also backed up into the bath to a depth of about 2 inches. We were offered a 50% discount - upon reflection we should have held out for 100% on the room. To wake up to raw sewage is totally unacceptable.

The room was comfortable. The hotel itself was really lovely and charming and very central. We had our evening meal and breakfast here and they were delicious. The bar was well stocked and we enjoyed a few drinks there. Also the staff were friendly and helpful, with the bar man explaining the various cocktails as he made them! All in all we really enjoyed our stay and it was perfect as part of our celebrations that weekend.

    Location

It’s clearly getting a bit behind on the decor and constant maintenance that a place like this needsStill very comfortable, good value and location - but a few signs of aging

Lovely and convenient hotel in a great location. Spacious room and kind staff.

The hotel was very busy and the garden-facing room was noisy. On this particular occasion they were showing a film in the garden which started at 9pm, so for people who want an early night, this was inconvenient. The hotel did offer to change rooms which was kind, however we did not take this up as the alternative room was onto the car park and we figured both would be noisy.

Walking distance to the city centre, St Peter's Catholic Church and Winchester Cathedral. Very beautiful town, in the county of Hampshire, England.

The bath tub was too high, I lost my footing getting out of the tub, fell and hit my right shoulder on the toilet sit. It's painful and now blue and purple.

Ideal location, room spacious, comfortable and clean, nice garden in centre, interesting history to building

Breakfast OK, but if you wanted Continental the cheese and ham were put out in very sparse quantities - there were sometimes only 6 slices of ham laid out. Also the toaster was strange. Often needed three passes to get toast browned but the bread was still damp in the middle.

Perfect location for exploring the beautiful city of Winchester

Although there seemed to be staff everywhere - there was no organisation. A 40 minute wait for breakfast is unreasonable. I'm sure this beautiful building was once THE place to stay in Winchester but it felt like a Travelodge. Shampoo, body and hand wash bolted to the wall. Just one chair in a double room meaning one of us had to sit on the bed. Great bar staff but no glasses so the bar staff were continually leaving the bar to get a single clean glass to serve someone.

I liked the building and the gardens , the staff were nice, location; was good, price was about average for that area, full English breakfast was good, tea/coffee In room was good

I didn’t like that we had booked up 6 months before and asked for two singles when we got there, there was only a double/queen the twin would have been at the other end of the property, we settled for the Double/queen The rooms are fine but we looked onto a parking lot with a big bright outside light for the parking lotOf course there is no air conditioning which was quite bad as the weather was very hot, however they did supply a fan that helped
