    Pros +

    • Great restored pub in quiet village location easily reached from main roads. Staff were really welcoming and helpful. Well stocked bar and great breakfast. Room was lovely, modern bathroom and very large and very comfortable bed. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
    • Great place to stay. Wonderful staff, lovely big room, very good food, excellent beer. We will be back!
    • Wonderful location and comfortable room. Complimentary coffee and pastry for breakfast was a nice touch.

    Cons -

    • It is an old building so steep but short stairs with low head height up to the bedroom, which was full-height and very spacious. It was not a problem for us.
    • Room was a little on the small side but was clean and comfy.
    • The morning staff of two women were unfriendly and it seemed as though they were annoyed with their jobs and had no interest in being friendly and welcoming. The younger woman just glared at me when I came down for breakfast. Never asked if we needed anything. It was uncomfortable and morning staff were not welcoming.

The evening staff was lovely. There was no heat in the room when we arrived and the young gentleman did everything he could to figure out what the issue was. Which he did solve. The room was very tastefully furnished in a very charming inn.

The rooms at the Chestnut Horse are large, well appointed, and comfortable. Staff are kind and professional. The village of Easton was unexpectedly picturesque and beautiful.

Getting up the stairs with luggage is difficult - a minor inconvenience at a great accommodation.

Quiet setting, very peaceful. Loved the old and new mix. Our room had loads of beams.

    Loved it all

Hidden away down winding roads the Chestnut Horse is set in the quiet village of Easton. There are four rooms to rent and a very nice restaurant which is open for lunch and dinner. Everything we ate was delicious and beautifully presentd. If you want a lovely place to unwind and enjoy the countryside, this location is the perfect pick.

From the minute we stepped in the door on the Saturday evening, the positive experience started. We were shown straight to the room and then advised we had a welcome drink downstairs, if we wanted. The property has been beautifully renovated with plenty of space to sit at a table, the bar or grab one of the comfy sofas dotted around. We chose to sit in the ‘Locals bar’ and met some absolutely lovely people (locals & staff) We ended up sharing a few drinks and a lot of laughs! We booked in for the Sunday roast and so pleased we did. It was definitely worth staying on for! Top 3 I’ve ever had – Thanks Mark & team. The outside terrace is a great spot to sit and relax when the weather permits and the property is dog friendly too.Lastly, a big Thank you to Toby and BP. You couldn’t have been more hospitable and you really made our weekend stay a fun one!

    Nothing of note.

The location was brilliant, lovely village and easy access to Winchester.

Unfortunately cooked breakfast was not available.

First impression was what a fabulous old building with a really sympathetic extension. Spoilt by a rather perfunctory check in from a male member of staff and no help offered with bags despite our age and the difficult stair access to the room. The room was delightful as was the service from the bar staff.

Beautiful old village pub with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Room was very spacious with old world charm. Only negative is the tight staircase if you have large suitcases, but staff helped us, so even that wasn’t a problem. The restaurant at the pub has a great menu and the food was delicious. Special mention to Leyton for going out of his way to look after us and to both him and Tina for making our last night in England so enjoyable.

    Beautifully decorated room and pub

No hot water or heating when we wanted to have a shower. We had to wait nearly 2 hours for this to be sorted

    Comfy bed, decent location

Smallest bathroom ever. Promise of breakfast in the morning didn’t materialize- left at just after 8am and nobody was around, no sign of breakfast or checkout

    Superb

Excellent basics/essentials: Great bed - crisp bed linen and good pillows. Nice heavy towels in bathroom.

Asked for early continental breakfast - only yesterdays cinnamon buns available. Fresh supplies arrived during our meal but we were not offered any.

    1. Pre-warning of very winding staircase - two of our party had mobility issues and found it difficult to negotiate.2. No vertical handhold at top of staircase.3. Lack of storage space in bathroom - glass shelf over basin would have helped.4. Radiator and towel rail hot enough to cause problems if grasped by small children - not that we had any with us!

Lovely quaint old pub with lots of character. Great staff, comfy bed.

Our room was very small, there were bigger ones but ours was tiny. No space in the bathroom for putting things out and less than a foot between the bed and the wall, which you have to get past to get to the bathroom. We loved the pub, but it is very expensive for what it is.Main issue is that breakfast doesn't start until 9.00 which was too late for us - this should be made clear when you book

    Food and accomodation very good

Access to all rooms by narrow steep staircase with open stairwell at the top

    7AnnPosted on: 1-27-2025

Pub was lovely Nice food The room was large and bed very comfortable Decor was lovely

The room needed to be cleaner The flooring was sticky in some parts The floor of the wardrobe was gritty and dusty There was teabags left out in a dish which wasn’t covered and although there was a coffee machine there was only two pods I’m sure we could have asked for more but not the point There was no cooked breakfast option which is a shame We knew this when booking and it didn’t put us off so can’t fault them for it just worth noting

    It was perfect

    Friendly staff, nice ambience.

Endless noise! Slamming doors in the bar / kitchen area. Loud music filtering up from the bar area.
